Julie's Review of XX

A 16-year old scholarship student at the elite Sheridan School is found dead in the girls' locker room.  She's clearly not like the other silver-spoon students at the academy, but she is a field hockey star. But who would want her dead? When Seely, Bug, and Capra work the case, Capra discover's Seely's link to the school—he was a student. Meanwhile, Jordan is dealing with an ill Woody and the death of an Iraqi immigrant. With the help of Homeland Security and a hand from Kate, the necessary clues are discovered.

Strengths
Storyline: Both storylines in this virtual episode were strong and incredibly well written. Additionally, it was evident that a great deal of research went into the honor killing story. And it wasn't a stretch to see that both stories truly could have happened.

Dialogue: Writer bourbon once again demonstrated an ease with conversation that had all her characters' lines ringing as true to character.

Emotional Growth:  Kate continues to develop nicely, working her way into the inner circle of the morgue family. In this episode, she volunteers to help Jordan, and when Jordan tries to tell Kate that she doesn't have to help, Kate persists, helping Jordan spot the evidence she needs. It was great to gain a little more perspective into Seely's character. From the television episodes, it was clear that he was on his parents' bad side, but it also appears that he's being ostracized by the entire trust fund community. And could there be something in the works for Seely and Capra?

Artwork: BigCJFan and Harbor Runner assembled a nice collection of artwork that again added meaning and depth to the episode. The clever inclusion of the jambiya daggers within the banner made the artwork a clue as well as a well constructed piece of the episode. The use of the Season 4 "Told You I Was Dying" t-shirt was a nice touch as well, both for those who got the reference and for those who didn't.

Music: Musical selections for this virtual episode were entertaining and appropriate, and it was amusing to see Fever as the choice during Woody's illness scene.  Amy Winehouse and Sarah McLaughlin were great additions to the episode soundtrack, adding atmosphere to the scene.

Miscellaneous: This virtual episode had many pop culture references, to shows such as American Idol (whose timeslot is clearly not one to oppose) and  a currently running Tim Kring series (which shall not be named out of respect for Crossing Jordan fans). There was also the wealth of information about honor killings and a reference to All the President's Men.

Favorite Quote: There are two quotes that clearly must be mentioned. The first involved the trashing of another Tim Kring series by Woody: I even watched that show about the cheerleader with the superpowers and let me tell you, that’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back. The second was spoken by Capra to Seely: Lucky for us you use those amazing powers of deduction only for good.

Areas for Improvement
I searched. I read twice—then a third time. But seriously, for this episode, this section will intentionally remain blank.

This Virtual Season 7 episode brought to us by writer Bourbon and artists BigCJFan and Harbor Runner provided Crossing Jordann fans a truly appealing episode filled with great stories, wonderful allusions, cultural richness, and skilled artwork. It should be no surprise (especially with a blank "areas for improvement" section) that this episode rated 4 scalpels out of 4.
