Lara's Review - Wild Card

I have to say that this will defiantly never be counted among my favorites; in fact it will have a permanent place among the bottom of the Crossing Jordan deck.

I haven’t quite pin pointed the reason why I didn’t like this episode, there were a number of things that made it quite hard and uncomfortable to watch.

But first, there were some good things. We finally got to see the morgue family dealing with Elaine’s death. Peter is right in saying ‘there are dead people and then there are dead people’, he was most affected by her death and his outbursts in this episode highlighted this. The rest of the morgue was saddened, but it was obvious that because none of them ‘knew her’ they do not feel the same connection as Peter. I loved how Jordan inherited her office.

I enjoyed the theme of this episode – Moral issues, I like theme episodes, they can often make you think ‘what would I do’, but the storylines were weak, and therefore that thinking never really occurred for me, it was a case of ‘and?’. The Garret and Peter storyline was perhaps the better of the two, and its always good to see Garret be the reluctant hero.

I really didn’t enjoy Jordan’s storyline, the ‘seemingly bad cop with the good cop partner who is really the bad cop’ storyline has pretty much been done to death, and unless it gets a new twist the storyline doesn’t even raise an eyebrow, in this case it was obvious from the beginning. Although the interaction between Jordan and Brazil was good, there was a lot of tension and some fabulous lines, I really didn’t like Brazil, he just annoyed me from the beginning, even though he wasn’t the ‘bad guy’ in the end, all I wanted was for him to actually be the ‘bad guy’ and lock him and his partner up!

Peter rubs me the wrong way, with the exception of his small scene in Perfect Storm when he was conscious; this episode was the first we got to know something about his personality. Peter obviously has a history that has landed him at the morgue, he does not seem particularly proud of his past, but his attitude towards Garret makes it difficult to care. It did surprise me that he listened to and respected Garrets wishes and kept his mouth closed about the illegal hospital, but in the end nothing about Peter wanted to make you see more of him, he was just there.

Essentially this is one of the more forgettable episodes of Crossing Jordan, something that is extremely rare. In the end, the bad guys chose the low road and our character chose the high road – all is right with the world.

Side note: I am still trying to figure out Nigel’s card trick.
