Beautiful Day - U2
1. EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, A CLEARING – DAY
MUSIC: U2’s “Beautiful Day”
We see a gorgeous, clear blue sky. The camera pans down onto the sun-dappled
treetops of the Berkshires. There are a series of shots:
2. EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, A ROAD - CONTINUING
There is a road sign that says, “WELCOME TO THE BEAUTIFUL BERKSHIRES!”
3. EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, LAKE – CONTINUING
We see a sailboat on the rippled water
4. EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, PICNIC GROUNDS – CONTINUING
There is a family enjoying a picnic, kids playing with a dog.
5. EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, ANOTHER ROAD – CONTINUING
Two bicyclists head down a road on this beautiful autumn afternoon. They pass
by:
6. EXT. COZY CABINS – CONTINUING
The Cozy Cabins are a series of slightly cheesy individual log cabins rented
to tourists who want the “authentic” wilderness experience while
visiting the Berkshires. Probably built sometime after WWII and probably not
remodeled since the 1960s.
CUT TO
7. EXT. WOODY and JORDAN’S COZY CABIN – CONTINUING
We see the El Camino parked outside.
CUT TO:
8. INT. WOODY and JORDAN’S COZY CABIN – CONTINUING
The interior of their cabin has been made up to look like a rustic log cabin.
Lots of wood paneling, chintz fabric covers. It’s cheesy and hokey, but
like the name implies – it is cozy. WOODY stands in front of the mirror
over the dresser. He looks very handsome in a suit, and he’s trying to
secure a boutonniere to his lapel. He pokes his finger with the pin and gives
up
WOODY
Ow! Dammit…
JORDAN enters from the bathroom, putting on her earrings. She looks stunning in
a simple but very flattering dress.
JORDAN
Did you say something?
WOODY
(jaw dropping)
Wow, Jordan…you look…wow.
JORDAN smiles appreciatively and crosses to him. She takes the boutonniere and
proceeds to pin it on.
JORDAN
Wow? I’ll take that as a compliment.
WOODY
Oh, it’s definitely a compliment.
He nibbles her neck. She smiles and enjoys it for a moment, but then draws her
face into a frown.
JORDAN
You don’t think we made a mistake, do you? You know…
She nods her head over to the bed.
WOODY
Why? You think I should get my own room?
JORDAN
No, no. I can behave myself.
WOODY
Oh, yeah, of course. Me, too. Absolutely. A perfect gentleman.
JORDAN
You know, I’m really glad we decided to wait until it’s right.
Until we’re sure.
WOODY
Yeah, me, too.
JORDAN eyes him suspiciously.
WOODY (cont’d)
(tentatively, stumbling)
Scout’s honor! Look, I know we kind of messed things up last time
by rushing into it before we were really ready. You were with Pollack, and
I’d been kind of a jerk for months.
JORDAN
Kind of?
WOODY
Okay, you weren’t supposed to agree with me so quickly. (beat) But
the truth is, the last thing I want to do is mess it up this time. We can
wait.
He swallows hard. We can practically hear him gulp.
WOODY (cont’d)
Not a problem.
WOODY eyes her up and down appreciatively and then leans in, and they share a
long kiss. JORDAN pushes him away, playfully.
JORDAN
All right. Easy, tiger. We’re going to be late.
He grabs his keys from the dresser, and they cross to the door, exiting.
WOODY
You don’t think anyone would miss us if we snuck out for a burger
after the ceremony? I am so not looking forward to the reception.
JORDAN
Oh, I don’t know. It’s amazing what they can make tofu taste
like these days.
WOODY and JORDAN exit and close the door behind them.

ACT 1
9 . EXT. THE BERKSHIRES, A CLEARING – DAY
BUG is pacing nervously and glancing at his watch. He is wearing a suit. JORDAN
is trying to calm him.
BUG
(to JORDAN)
Where is she? Shouldn’t she be here by now?
JORDAN
Relax, Bug. Breathe in, breathe out. She’ll be here.
WOODY comes into frame, glancing over his shoulder at something, looking perplexed.
WOODY
What…is that?
He points, and from their P.O.V., we see a middle-aged woman. EILEEN, with a flowing
peasant dress and a wild mane of hair. She is swaying while she waves an incense
stick and clangs a set of finger cymbals. BUG groans with mild embarrassment.
BUG
Oh. That’s Eileen. Lily’s yoga teacher. She’s doing
an ancient Druid ritual purification. She’s ridding the area of negative
energy.
WOODY
Don’t tell me…and then she’s going to play the pan flute
while you exchange your marriage vows, right?
BUG
(sheepishly)
No! Of course not! Panflute. Pffft...The autoharp, actually.
And technically they’re not “marriage vows.” They’re
“words of commitment.
JORDAN
So, you really decided not to get married?
BUG
(strongly, perhaps a bit too strongly)
We don’t need meaningless Western conventions or the approval of
the church and state to prove our love. We’re already married in our
hearts. We’re raising a child together. How much more committed could
we be? A piece of paper isn’t going to make that any more real. We
just wanted to commune with nature and celebrate our love in front of our
friends. While autoharp music plays in the background.
JORDAN
This totally was Lily’s idea, wasn’t it?
BUG
Oh, yeah, totally.
10. EXT. ANOTHER PART OF THE CLEARING – CONTINUING
KATE sitting on a tree stump. She’s looking glum and rubbing her feet.
NIGEL, also in a suit, crosses and joins her.
KATE
My lower back and my feet are killing me. High heels should be classified
as instruments of torture under the Geneva Convention. They serve no earthly
purpose other than to put money in chiropractors’ pockets.
NIGEL
Au contraire! It’s all about the biological imperative,
love.
KATE
I thought I asked you not to call me "love."
NIGEL
Long legs are a sign of reproductive maturity, and human beings are genetically
pre-programmed to find them irresistible. The stiletto artificially lengthens
the leg, and high heels also alter the woman’s posture, thereby enhancing
the secondary sexual characteristics.
KATE
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Behind them, we see GARRET’S car pull up on the access road.
NIGEL
Bug! Here they come!
11. CLEARING, MAIN PART - CONTINUING
NIGEL rises and crosses to BUG, who is fidgeting nervously with his boutonnière.
NIGEL helps him adjust his tie. BUG looks like he might pass out.
BUG
She’s here…she’s here. This is it. How do I look? Do
I look okay?
NIGEL
(fondly)
You look fine, mate. I’m really happy for you and Lily.
It’s a nice moment. BUG smiles and hugs his best man NIGEL.
BUG
Thanks, Nigel. That means a lot to me.
GARRET’S car slides up. GARRET exits and runs around to the passenger side
of the car. He opens the door, and out comes LILY on his arm, looking beautiful
in a traditional white confection. Lots of tulle. She is carrying Maddie, and
she is radiant.
BUG
Wow…Lily…
WOODY
(aside to JORDAN)
So much for “meaningless Western conventions.”
JORDAN
(aside to WOODY)
It’s a Vera Wang. She got it off eBay. Come on, a girl can’t
resist.
GARRET escorts LILY down the “aisle.” There is an admiring murmur
from the gathered friends. She takes BUG’S hand, with MADDIE between them.
She’s beaming and teary-eyed.
BUG
Lily…you’re...I’m speechless…
BUG turns to the gathered friends.
BUG (cont’d)
Thank you all for coming here today. For as long as I’ve known her,
I’ve wanted to tell the world how much I love this woman, and how
much I want to spend my life with her. And today, I finally get the chance.
BUG turns to LILY.
BUG (cont’d)
Lily…
GARRET
Is that smoke?
From GARRET’S P.O.V., we see a tuft of thick, dark smoke rising above the
trees.
LILY
I’m sure it’s just a campfire.
WOODY
No. I saw the sign on our way into the park. There’s a campfire
prohibition because of the drought.
KATE
Could be a controlled burn.
JORDAN
(ominously)
That doesn’t look controlled to me.
MAN’S VOICE
(V/O)
Help! Someone help us!
GARRET, NIGEL, WOODY, and JORDAN take off towards the smoke and the sound of the
voice. KATE follows, somewhat reluctantly, staggering on her high heels. LILY
looks at BUG, eyes wide. He shrugs helplessly and follows the others. EILEEN comes
and takes MADDIE from LILY.
LILY
(calling after them)
Wait! Bug! Where are you guys going? Bug! You guys! This is supposed
to be the happiest day of my life!
LILY bursts into comical tears. She throws down her bouquet, hikes up her skirt
and takes off after the rest.
1. EXT. BERKSHIRES, ANOTHER CLEARING – DAY
We see a young dad, MR. JENSEN. He’s with his 10 year old son, ERIC JENSEN.
They are coughing and beating at a fire that has broken out in the undergrowth
with their jackets. GARRET, NIGEL, WOODY, JORDAN, BUG, KATE, and LILY come running
up. GARRET grabs the jacket from MR JENSEN.
GARRET
Stop! You’re only fanning the flames! The fire will spread!
WOODY
Somebody get the kid out of here!
LILY grabs ERIC’s hand and pulls him to one side, shielding him from the
fire. He buries himself in her skirt, and she looks momentarily dismayed that
she has the facial imprint of a 10 year old on her layers of Vera Wang tulle.
GARRET
(to MR. JENSEN)
What happened?
MR. JENSEN
I don’t know! I don’t know!
WOODY
We need water, sand! Anything!
BUG
There’s a bucket of sand back at the firepit!
GARRET
Go! Hurry!
BUG takes off running back to the wedding site. There is general panic. Voices,
yelling for sand, dirt, water…anything to tamp down the fire. There is coughing,
and ERIC yelling in fear for his father.
An SUV with a MASSACHUSETTS STATE PARK seal on the door screeches up, and a
ranger jumps out. He is RANGER RICK MAITLAND, early-30s, handsome and sturdy
in a park rangerish kind of way. He pulls bags of sand from the back of the
SUV.
RANGER
Come on, grab these!
They tear open the bags and start to throw bags of sand on the fire.
RANGER (cont’d)
I saw the smoke from down the road and radioed 911. We’ve got to
get this thing out before it spreads
They frantically try and put out the fire, to no avail. The flames are about to
spread when a fire truck pulls up. They all breathe a sigh of relief as the FIREFIGHTERS
jump out of their truck and open their hoses on the fire.
13. EXT. BERKSHIRES, SAME LOCATION – CONTINUING
The fire has died down. There is a wideshot to establish what the players are
doing. The FIREFIGHTERS are packing up and getting ready to go. LILY is sitting
in the front seat of the ranger’s SUV, door open. BUG is standing next
to her, comforting her. KATE and NIGEL are sifting through some of the burned
stuff. GARRET has a first aid kit and is tending to BRIAN while WOODY and RANGER
question him. JORDAN is listening to ERIC’S chest with stethoscope.
14. EXT. SMALLER PART OF SAME CLEARING – CONTINUING
MR. JENSEN, WOODY, GARRET, and RANGER are together.
RANGER
As fires go, it was pretty small. It could have been a lot worse. Any
idea how it started?
MR. JENSEN
No. My son, Eric…he was really looking forward to this camping trip.
Since his mom and I split, I only get to see him once a month, and I thought
this might be a good opportunity to get away. Bond a little. He’s
never been camping before, and I promised him this huge bonfire…roast
hot dogs, make s’mores. But when we got here, there was a campfire
prohibition because of all this dry weather. He was pretty disappointed.
Blamed me, of course. Plus, he didn’t have his Gameboy or his X-box
or any of that stuff his stepfather buys him, so he wandered off. I went
looking for him, found him here trying to put the fire out.
15. EXT. ANOTHER PART OF SAME CLEARING – CONTINUING
JORDAN is finishing up listening to ERIC.
JORDAN
Well, the good news is that your lungs sound nice and healthy. The bad
news is that your cool Spiderman jacket is pretty much trashed.
ERIC
Does this mean our camping trip is over?
JORDAN
Well…you should probably get to the hospital so they can check you
out. Just to make sure you’re okay. So…yeah, I’d say that
about wraps up the camping trip.
ERIC
Good.
JORDAN frowns to herself, surprised by his vehemence. WOODY crosses and kneels
down beside ERIC.
WOODY
(gently)
Hi, Eric. My name’s Woody, and I’m a police officer from Boston.
Do you think I could ask you a couple of questions?
ERIC’S eyes widen, he hesitates, and then nods.
WOODY (cont’d)
Your dad said that when he found you, the fire had already started. Do
you know what caused it?
ERIC shakes his head.
WOODY (cont’d)
Did you see anything? Anybody?
ERIC
I didn’t see anybody. I swear it! I saw smoke and when I got here,
the fire was already burning!
WOODY
(calmly)
It’s okay, buddy. You’re not in trouble. You’re doing
fine. So, the fire was already burning when you came into the clearing?
You don’t know how it started?
ERIC
I didn’t do it, okay? I DIDN’T DO IT!
JORDAN
Hey, it’s all right, Eric. No one’s saying you did. We just
need to…
ERIC
(crying)
I didn’t do it! It wasn’t me!
JORDAN puts a comforting arm around him, and she and WOODY trade looks. Clearly
the kid isn’t telling everything he knows.
GARRET and the RANGER rise and cross towards JORDAN, WOODY, and ERIC. MR. JENSEN
is giving ERIC the thumbs up.
JORDAN
(to ERIC)
Hey, it looks like your dad’s going to be okay.
ERIC smiles weakly and hurries over to his dad.
GARRET
How’s the boy?
JORDAN
Fine. They were both really lucky.
WOODY
(to the RANGER)
Did you get anything else out of the dad?
RANGER
No. How about Eric?
WOODY
According to him, he went for a walk, saw smoke and came over to investigate.
RANGER
Do you think he’s telling the truth?
WOODY
I think he’s scared of something, that’s for sure.
JORDAN
I’d be scared, too. He could have died.
RANGER
That’s exactly the reason we’ve imposed a campfire prohibition.
That fire could have started for a hundred different reasons. The weather’s
been crazy. Temperatures have been ten degrees above normal since October.
Here it is the middle of November, and we’re in shirtsleeves. Couple
that with the drought and the hot, dry wind…this whole forest is a
tinderbox.
GARRET
And they say global warming is a hoax…
16. EXT. A THIRD PART OF CLEARING – CONTINUING
NIGEL AND KATE are together. NIGEL cuts a look over to where LILY sits in the
front seat of the RANGER’S van while BUG comforts her.
NIGEL
Poor mites. This was supposed to be their “Big Day.”
KATE
Maybe they should take it as a sign.
NIGEL
Oh, now, you don’t mean that, do you?
KATE
The idea of spending your life with someone is archaic, illogical, and
probably sexist, too.
NIGEL
Come on! Where’s the romantic in you?
KATE
Let’s see. Last time I saw her was when my father brought my wedding
to a screeching halt by vomiting on my maid-of-honor.
NIGEL
(he’s playing with her)
So, no plans to take the plunge again?
KATE
I’d rather have “It’s a Small World” on an eternal
loop implanted in my brain. (beat) I’m not sure what I’m supposed
to be doing.
NIGEL
Making sure all the burned material has been extinguished and cooled to
prevent the fire from re-igniting.
KATE
And how do you propose I do that?
NIGEL
We need to smother any embers with dirt. But don’t bury them –
they can smolder and break out again. Don’t cover them, stir
the remains.
KATE
Uh…Nigel? Speaking of remains…
We close in on a charred body partially hidden by burned leaves.
NIGEL
Doctor M! Woody! We’ve found something.
GARRET, WOODY, JORDAN, and RANGER cross over. There’s a beat while they
take it all in.
ERIC starts crying.
They all turn toward him. He’s inching forward, crying, a look of horror
on his face. WOODY kneels beside him.
WOODY
Eric, do you know what happened here?
ERIC
(blurting it out)
I saw them!
WOODY
Saw who?
ERIC
Two men! They dumped the body and started the fire to cover it up! They
killed him!
ERIC begins to sob. He throws his arms around his father. As they all looked stunned.
Oh, shit…
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
17. EXT. SITE OF THE FIRE – CONTINUING
GARRET and the RANGER are examining the body.
RANGER
Any idea what killed him… or her?
GARRET
Definitely male, but cause of death? There’s tissue damage from
the fire, but nothing else obvious.
RANGER
I’ve radioed our local coroner and law enforcement.
GARRET
They should be able to tell us more.
18. EXT. APART FROM THE BODY - CONTINUING
WOODY is trying to question ERIC.
WOODY
Eric, I know this is upsetting, but I need you to try and remember.
ERIC
I…can’t.
WOODY
I need you to try, buddy. The two men. Can you tell me what they looked
like?
ERIC
No, they were just two men. I didn’t really get a good look at them.
I saw them dump the body. Then they lit some sticks and some leaves and
drove off.
WOODY
Did you happen to see what kind of car they were driving? Was it a van
or maybe a truck?
ERIC
I don’t remember! I was too scared. Just leave me alone, okay?
MR. JENSEN
Do we have to do this now? He’s been through enough already today.
WOODY nods reluctantly. He and JORDAN walk away while MR. JENSEN comforts ERIC.
19. EXT. APART FROM BOY AND FATHER - CONTINUING
WOODY and JORDAN look back at the boy. From their P.O.V., we see ERIC staring
into the distance with fear-filled eyes.
WOODY
Something’s got him spooked.
JORDAN
Maybe the killers saw him and threatened him if he talked.
WOODY
Could be. But that kid definitely knows way more than he’s telling.
20. EXT. NEAR RANGER’S JEEP - CONTINUING
BUG and LILY, standing off to one side while they take in the scene.
BUG
I sent Eileen and Madeline down to the cabin. They’ll be okay there.
LILY nods and puts her head on his shoulder.
BUG (cont’d)
I’m sorry the day didn’t turn out the way you wanted.
LILY
(optimistically)
Ah, well. the day’s not over yet. Anyway, I just feel sorry for
that poor man, burned like that. And the boy…
The RANGER is seen in the background talking on his radio. He comes front and
center in the middle of the work.
RANGER
We’ve gotten a report that the fire has sparked upwind. The fire
department should be able to get it under control, but we’ve got to
evacuate just to be on the safe side.
LILY
Oh, my God…Madeline!
BUG
She’s safe . She’ll be fine.
GARRET
(to the RANGER)
What about the body?
RANGER
I’ve got a bag in the van. There’s a ranger station a couple
of miles down the road. We can take it there and wait for the local cops.
KATE
You can’t move that body. It needs to be examined in the context
of the scene.
RANGER
With this fire, there’s not going to be much “context”
anyway, Ma’am.
KATE gives a look of obvious irritation at the slightly condescending use of
“ma’am.”
21. EXT. RANGER STATION – AFTERNOON
We have an establishing shot. A cabin that serves as a ranger’s station.
22. INT. RANGER STATION – CONTINUING
There are a couple of desks, a cabinet with medical supplies, a radio, a small
fridge, a vending machine. There are also brochures and a giant map of the park.
WOODY
(to the RANGER)
Hi…I didn’t get a chance to introduce myself back there. I’m
Det. Woody Hoyt from Boston PD.
RANGER
Hi. Rick Maitland.
WOODY
(smiling)
Rick. Your name is Rick.
RANGER
Yeah…?
WOODY
Well, Ranger Rick. Your name is Ranger Rick. That’s funny. Ranger
Rick.
RANGER is stone-faced. WOODY shuffles in embarrassment.
RANGER
Oh, yeah! I get it. Ranger Rick. Like the kids’ magazine. That is
funny. You’re the first person who’s ever pointed that out.
WOODY
Really?
RANGER
No.
23. INT. CORNER OF STATION – CONTINUING
LILY is on her cell phone. She hangs up.
BUG
How’s Madeline?
LILY
(to BUG)
She’s fine. Eileen said she was a little fussy, so she took out
her autoharp, played her a lullaby, and Maddie went right out!
BUG
…Hunh.
24. INT. DESKS at STATION – CONTINUING
RANGER is on his radio and “hangs up.” GARRET and WOODY are listening
in.
RANGER
The fire department is on the scene of the second fire, and local law
enforcement is on the way. I’ve put out a bulletin for any rangers
to be aware of suspicious vehicles leaving the park.
WOODY
Without a description of the vehicle, there’s not much hope of finding
them.
RANGER
I know these aren’t ideal conditions for a crime scene investigation,
but I had to evacuate the area.
GARRET
At least we were able to collect some samples and take some photos. One
thing I don’t understand. The boy said he saw the men dump the body
and light the fire.
WOODY
Right. To destroy the evidence and cover the crime.
GARRET
Except the burn patterns don’t seem to match what you might expect
to see from an intentional burning. The upper extremities were burned, but
the legs were untouched by the fire. In an intentional burning, I’d
expect to see a more even burn pattern on the tissue.
WOODY
So, what are you thinking, Doc?
GARRET
I don’t know. It could be nothing. It just doesn’t quite fit
together.
25. INT. NEAR STATION VENDING MACHINES – CONTINUING
NIGEL and KATE are standing in front of the vending machine. NIGEL drops his
change in, makes his selection, and a candy bar drops down. He opens it greedily
and takes a bite. He steps aside and sits on a bench next to the machine. KATE
drops her money in, makes a selection…and nothing happens. She presses
the button again and again and still nothing happens. She shakes the machine,
slaps it, kicks it.
KATE
Oh, come on!
KATE flops down dejectedly next to NIGEL. She looks at his candy bar with some
envy. After a beat, he breaks off half his candy bar and passes it to her. She
stares at it for a moment and then takes it glumly.
KATE (cont’d)
Thanks…
NIGEL
So. I don’t suppose there’s anything that could entice you
to take another stroll down the aisle.
KATE
You know, not everyone is meant to pair up two-by-two like some kind of
giant Noah’s Ark. Oh, and here’s a shocker: men tend not to
line up around the block to be with an intelligent woman who has actually
has an opinion and isn’t afraid to share it.
NIGEL
That’s not true.
KATE
Amy Scarpelli and I. We were #1 and #2 in our graduating class. I was
editor of the school paper, science club president, and class treasurer.
She was a cheerleader and told everyone she was failing math and English.
Guess which one of us went to the senior prom with the football captain
and which one of us stayed home that night listening to The Cure.
NIGEL
I don’t know. Not all men are intimidated by strong women. Look
at Jordan and Woody. She’s not exactly a shrinking violet.
26. INT. STATION NEAR REFRIGERATOR – CONTINUING
WOODY and JORDAN are across the room from KATE. JORDAN is retrieving some water
bottles from a small refrigerator. She’s chatting to WOODY. He pushes
a stray strand of hair from her face; she smiles up at him. They’re clearly
in love.
27. INT. NEAR STATION VENDING MACHINES – CONTINUING
We see KATE, a momentary wistful look plays across her face, but she immediately
shakes it off.
KATE
Please. Those two have been playing footsie under the table for years.
I don’t have that kind of patience.
28. INT. STATION NEAR DOORWAY – CONTINUING
WOODY and JORDAN are giving the water bottles to MR. JENSEN and ERIC.
JORDAN
Here you go. I thought you might be pretty thirsty after all that.
ERIC
Thanks. (to MR. JENSEN) I’m sorry, Dad.
MR. JENSEN
What are you sorry for?
ERIC
I couldn’t get the fire out. And now it’s spread.
MR. JENSEN
Hey, that’s not your fault, kiddo. And they’ll get the second
fire out. Don’t worry. I’d say you were pretty much a hero.
If you hadn’t come across that first fire, who knows what might have
happened?
MR. JENSEN ruffles his kid’s hair, but he looks pretty troubled. JORDAN
gets the feeling he wants to talk. She gives WOODY a look that says take the kid
somewhere, and WOODY picks up on it.
WOODY
Hey, Eric. I thought I saw an eagle’s nest in one of the trees right
outside. You want to check it out? I bet Ranger Rick over there can loan
us some binoculars.
ERIC nods, and he and WOODY head off.
JORDAN
He seems like a great kid.
MR. JENSEN
It’s been hard for him since the divorce. I travel a lot for business,
only get to see him one weekend out of the month. Two days. I’ve got
two days a month to try and be a dad to my son. My ex-wife’s new husband
is a hot-shot lawyer. Buys Eric off with every computer gadget that comes
out just to keep Eric quiet and out of his hair. So, he’s been acting
out at school lately. I’ve been trying to be there for him more. He
seemed like he was getting back on track, and now this. How’s a kid
supposed to recover from seeing something like this?
JORDAN
Kids can be pretty resilient.
MR. JENSEN
I wish I believed that.
WOODY
(voiceover)
Fire!
The camera spins around to see WOODY and ERIC running back inside the ranger station.
He looks frantic.
WOODY (cont’d)
The fire! It’s spread!
He runs back out and ALL follow.
29. EXT. RANGER STATION – CONTINUING
As they tumble outside of the ranger station, we see the look of horror register
on their faces. Then the camera cuts to their P.O.V., and we see the treetops
alight with fire.
RANGER
(ominously)
It’s crowning.
WOODY
Something tells me that’s not a good thing.
RANGER
A crown fire is the most dangerous kind of forest fire. The flames spread
along the top branches of the trees faster than we can outrun it, particularly
on windy days like this. Come on, we’ve got to get out of here.
LILY
(to BUG)
Madeline…I need to get to her. I need to see my baby!
BUG
It’s all right, Lily. I’ve got the car. We’ll go back
to the cabins. (to the others) I’m taking Lily back to the Cozy Cabins.
It’s on the other side of the lake, so we should be safe.
GARRET
Nigel, Kate…you’re going with them. Now.
NIGEL
But Dr. M…
GARRET
I’m not arguing here. That’s an order.
KATE
Twist my arm…
KATE, NIGEL, BUG & LILY hurry to the car.
ERIC
Dad, I’m scared.
MR. JENSEN
My car…it’s all the way back at the campsite with all our
belongings.
RANGER
We don’t have time to get them. You can ride with me. Hurry.
MR JENSEN and ERIC nod obediently and hop into the ranger’s SUV.
GARRET
We’ll need to preserve the evidence.
RANGER
(to GARRET)
I’ll give you a hand with the body.
WOODY
Jordan, you should get out of here while the getting’s good. You
can still catch Bug.
JORDAN
What, and miss all the fun? I’m not leaving you.
WOODY
(smiles, gives an eye roll)
Shoulda seen that coming. Right, let’s go!
RANGER and GARRET are carrying the body to the SUV. GARRET and RANGER jump in.
The Ranger’s van screeches down the road while the fire continues to blaze
in the background.
30. EXT. BURNING FOREST – CONTINUING
Several deer run frantically from the blaze.
31.EXT. A ROAD OUT OF THE FOREST – CONTINUING
We see a long line of cars snaking out of the park. We hear an official’s
voice over the loudspeaker saying there is a state of emergency and all visitors
must leave the park.
32. EXT. BURNING FOREST, ROAD – CONTINUING
BUG is speeding as fast as he can out of the forest. We can see trees burning
in the background. LILY looks over her shoulder nervously.
LILY
The ranger was right. We’re not going to be able to outrun this.
BUG
We will. I’m going to get us there.
He throws the car into a higher gear. And they speed along.
LILY
Bug! Look out!
BUG gasps. From his P.O.V., we see a tree ahead of them has caught fire and is
falling. Falling directly in their path…
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
33. EXT. BURNING FOREST, ROAD – CONTINUING
BUG slams on the brakes just feet away from the tree as it slams into the road
in front of them.
BUG
Are you okay? Is everyone okay?
NIGEL
Let me just get my heart out of my throat.
LILY
Oh, my God, that tree nearly fell on us. You stopped just in time! You
saved us!
LILY leans over and spontaneously kisses BUG.
KATE
Okay, I’d say, “get a room,” but that goes without saying.
We need to get out of here.
NIGEL
And the direction we came from is not an option.
BUG, LILY, NIGEL and KATE get out of the car. Off-roading the car isn’t
an option because of the lay of the land. They look around, hopes beginning to
fade.
LILY
What do we do?
BUG
We walk.
KATE
Walk? If we can’t outdrive the fire, we’re certainly
not going to be able to outwalk it.
NIGEL
Bloody hell, woman. Do you have a better idea?
BUG
If we stay to the road, we can hitch a ride on a passing vehicle.
LILY takes his hand and they start down the road, double-time, walking around
the tree. KATE isn’t budging. NIGEL shoots her a look and takes off after
LILY and BUG. KATE sighs, slips off her high heels, and proceeds on, wincing all
the way.
34. EXT. FOREST, ANOTHER ROAD – CONTINUING
The RANGER is driving. ERIC has his face buried in his father’s chest.
They all have looks of concern. JORDAN glances over her shoulder at the fire.
They round a corner, and there is fire all around. They won’t be able
to advance.
RANGER
Hang on!
The RANGER makes a sharp turn off-road. The car bounces and bumps along. There
is a hill ahead, unexpected. He swerves, loses control. There is SHOUTING from
within the van as the RANGER tries to regain control. He cannot, and the van tips
and lands on its side.
There is stillness…no movement from inside.
35 . EXT. FOREST, ANOTHER ROAD - CONTINUING
NIGEL, KATE, BUG, and LILY hurry along the road. A CAR HORN beeps. They turn.
It is a pick-up truck with State Park seals on the side. The four sigh with
relief.
DRIVER
Hop in! I can get you out of here!
BUG and LILY whoop and jump in the back of the truck, there are two big, slobbering
dogs in the back. NIGEL hops in and turns to offer his hand to KATE to help her
up.
KATE
(muttering)
You’ve got to be kidding me…
NIGEL
I’ve never struck a woman, but if you don’t get in this truck
now, I’m going to cold cock you and throw you in the back like a sack
of potatoes.
KATE shrugs and allows herself to be pulled into the back of the truck as it speeds
away.
36. EXT. SCENE OF CAR CRASH – CONTINUING
The car has come to rest on its side. The sound of GROANS comes from inside
the car. Camera cuts inside the car. JORDAN looks stunned, but alive and well.
JORDAN
Woody…Woody?! Are you all right?
WOODY
Yeah, I’m fine. Hit my head but I’m fine. You okay?
JORDAN
I’m okay. Garret!
GARRET
I’m fine, I’m fine.
ERIC
Dad! Wake up! There’s something wrong with my dad!
GARRET checks on MR. JENSEN, who seems semi-conscious.
GARRET
Mr. Jensen! Mr. Jensen! Can you hear me?
MR. JENSEN comes to.
MR. JENSEN
What happened…?
GARRET
We had an accident. Are you hurt?
MR. JENSEN
(becoming more aware)
Oh, God…I think I might have broken my arm.
GARRET
Hang in there. We’ll get you checked out as soon as we can.
GARRET turns to RANGER, who is gritting his teeth in pain.
GARRET (cont’d)
We need to get these people to safety.
RANGER
(in obvious pain)
There’s a station ahead through the trees. Since the budget cuts,
it’s been abandoned, but I can try to radio for help there, and there
should be some first aid supplies.
GARRET
Are you all right?
RANGER
(shakes his head)
My ankle. I think it’s broken.
GARRET
Let’s get you out of here. Woody, give me a hand.
They all get out of the van. WOODY runs around and they support RANGER as he hobbles
along. They walk along as fast as they can with two injured men in tow.
37 . INT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION – CONTINUING
This station is sparser than the first. The map is old and faded and coming
away from the wall. The desk has been stripped of most anything useful. GARRET
is putting a sling on MR. JENSEN’s arm. MR. JENSEN winces in pain.
GARRET
I think you’ve definitely broken it, but we won’t know for
sure until we can get it x-rayed. The sling should hold you in the meantime.
38. INT. APART FROM MR. JENSEN – CONTINUING
JORDAN who is sitting with ERIC a few feet away. Emotions play over his small
face. Fear, concern.
JORDAN
(trying to distract him)
That’s a cool backpack.
ERIC
Thanks… (he makes a face) My step-dad bought it for me.
JORDAN
Wow. Some stepdad. Gameboy, X-box…
ERIC
He only ever buys me stuff because he thinks it’ll make me like
him.
JORDAN
(changing the subject)
Your dad said this was your first camping trip.
ERIC
Yeah. He used to go camping a lot when he was my age. He’s always
trying to get me into stuff he likes. Camping and fishing and stuff. It’s
never as good as he says it will be.
JORDAN
I don’t know…if you keep trying, maybe you two will find something
you like to do together.
ERIC
Is my dad going to be okay?
JORDAN
Yeah, he’s just got a broken arm. They’ll put a cast on it
when you get to the hospital. You know, casts come in all different colors
nowadays. Not just boring old white. Blue, green, red. I bet your dad will
let you pick for him.
ERIC
(suddenly switching gears)
That guy in the fire. Do you think he felt anything?
JORDAN
(confused)
Felt anything when?
ERIC
When he was burned up.
JORDAN
Well, from what you said he was probably already dead.
ERIC
Do you think so?
JORDAN
It seems like it.
ERIC
I hope so.
ERIC gazes off into the distance, and JORDAN looks at him with concern.
39. INT. NEAR RADIO IN STATION - CONTINUING
WOODY and RANGER are near the radio. RANGER is trying to the radio.
RANGER
Dammit…
WOODY
(to RANGER)
No luck with the radio?
RANGER
Not yet. This thing hasn’t been used in years.
WOODY
The fire department can reach us, though, right?
RANGER
Companies with pumpers are limited to areas that contain roads. The heavier
trucks aren’t designed to enter wooded areas. They can get stuck in
soft ground too easily.
WOODY
What about the smaller trucks?
RANGER
Hand crews can extinguish smaller, isolated fires, but the pumper trucks
will never reach us. They’re overtaxed as it is, and there’s
not enough water pressure with this drought.
WOODY
So, what do we do?
RANGER
There’s an Air National Guard contingent in New York State. They’ve
got special C-130 Hercules planes that can drop up to 6,000 lbs. of flame-retardant
liquid. You want to know what to do? Pray they get here in time.
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
40. EXT. AID STATION – AFTERNOON
An Aid Station has been set up outside of the danger zone. There are ambulances
with EMTs checking people for injuries. A Red Cross truck is set up doling out
coffee and water. NIGEL and BUG are in line getting coffee. LILY and KATE are
watching the blaze. “Refugees” wander around in various states.
All eyes are on the burning forest some distance away.
LILY
(to KATE)
I want to thank you for coming today. It means a lot to me and Bug.
KATE
I’m a little surprised I was invited, actually. We didn’t
exactly get off on the right foot.
LILY
I know. But we’ve been through a lot this past year. And you helped
bring Madeline into this world. I’ll never forget that. So, I just
wanted to say…welcome to the family.
Lily spontaneously throws her arms around Kate. Kate is shocked and stiffens,
but then softens a bit and manages to pat Lily on the back. NIGEL and BUG cross
with coffee for the girls. There is only one thing on their minds.
KATE
Think they’ll be okay?
NIGEL
I don’t think so, I know so.
LILY
They have to be.
41. INT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION – AFTERNOON
WOODY is looking out the window while JORDAN looks at the burned body, which
they have stretched out on a table in the corner.
JORDAN
(to WOODY)
How’s it look?
WOODY
We’re okay for now. But if the Air National Guard doesn’t
get here soon…
There is no need to go on. She nods. He looks her over in her ruined dress.
WOODY
I hope you weren’t planning on returning that dress.
JORDAN
Oh, well. It’s not like I was going to wear it again, anyway. But
as far as bridesmaid’s dresses go, this is on the lower end of the
hideousness scale.
In true “Jordan” fashion, she is trying to make light of things, but
there is real anxiety in her eyes.
WOODY
We’re going to get out of here, Jordan.
JORDAN
I know. You don’t think I survived a brain tumor and a
plane crash just to be taken out by some forest fire, do you?
He smiles at her, wraps a quick arm around her shoulder and kisses the top of
her head. GARRET and RANGER enter the area and they cross to look at the body.
GARRET
What do you think, Jordan?
JORDAN
Male, Caucasian. Late 40s probably. Approximately 6’2”. No
external sign of trauma. No ligature marks around the throat, no gunshot
entry wounds, no cuts on the bones that would indicate stabbing.
WOODY
He could have been poisoned.
JORDAN
Maybe, but…something doesn’t make sense.
GARRET
The burn marks.
JORDAN
Exactly.
She mulls it over for a moment.
JORDAN (cont’d)
I’m Eric. Garret, Woody…you’re the men Eric saw.
43. EXT. FOREST – DAY
Back at the site of the first blaze, we see JORDAN, peeking out from behind
a tree. Cut to WOODY and GARRET, as they pull a dead body from the trunk of
a car. When we cut back to Jordan, she has become ERIC, peeking out from behind
the same tree.
44. INT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION – AFTERNOON
JORDAN
You have a body. What are you doing?
GARRET
Lighting him on fire.
WOODY
To destroy the evidence.
JORDAN
Okay, how? You wanted to get rid of the body. What did you do?
45. EXT. FOREST – DAY
WOODY and GARRET are dumping the body. WOODY is dumping gasoline on him. GARRET
lights a match.
WOODY
(v/o)
Doused it with gasoline.
46. EXT. FOREST - CONTINUING
JORDAN is watching from the trees.
47. INT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION - CONTINUING
JORDAN
No. We would have smelled a gas fire. And I said…
WOODY
…we piled up leaves and sticks.
GARRET
Like a mini-pyre.
48. EXT. FOREST – CONTINUING
WOODY and GARRET piling up leaves and sticks around the body.
JORDAN
(v/o)
Right. But there’s no evidence of that. If the killers had done
that, there would be a more even pattern of burning.
49. INT. ABANDONED RANGER’S STATION – CONTINUING
JORDAN
But that’s not what we have. His lower extremities are much less
burned, more intact than his upper body. It’s like the fire was set
some distance away from the body. Why?
WOODY
So, what are you saying?
JORDAN
Well, it got me thinking. We assumed he had only been dead for a few hours,
because of what Eric said. And the remaining tissue showed little decomposition.
But then I started thinking about the location of body.
GARRET
(a lightbulb has gone off in his head)
The body was surrounded by decaying leaves, which emitted organocholorines.
JORDAN
Which acted as a preservative.
WOODY
(getting it)
So …
JORDAN
This guy could have been dead for days. Weeks even.
WOODY
The body was never dumped here at all.
RANGER
We had a hiker go missing a couple of weeks ago. He had a history of heart
problems. The age and height fits the description.
JORDAN
He must have had a heart attack and fallen in the leaves.
WOODY
If the kid never saw the body being dumped, he never saw them start the
fire.
JORDAN
Which means…
MR. JENSEN comes into frame.
MR. JENSEN
Eric?! He’s gone! Eric!
GARRET
Gone…?
MR. JENSEN
I turned around for a minute, and he was gone.
50. EXT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION – CONTINUING
GARRET, WOODY, JORDAN, RANGER, and MR. JENSEN run outside. All are shouting
for Eric.
MR. JENSEN
Eric! Can you hear me!
JORDAN
(pointing)
Look…
From JORDAN’s P.O.V., we see some distance across the road and heading into
the fire. It’s ERIC’S backpack. They cross the road, and WOODY picks
it up.
MR. JENSEN
Oh, God, it’s Eric.
JORDAN
He can’t have gotten far.
WOODY
Looks like he’s headed that way.
RANGER
Toward the fire.
MR. JENSEN
I’m going after him.
WOODY
With that arm? What if Eric’s injured? How are you going to get
him back? (to RANGER) Or you?
MR. JENSEN
I can’t just sit here.
There is a beat.
WOODY
I’m going.
JORDAN
Woody…
WOODY
He’s right. We can’t just sit here.
JORDAN
Then I’m going, too.
WOODY
No.
JORDAN
If he’s injured, you’re gonna need help. Come on, you should
know better than to argue with me by now.
He takes her hand, and JORDAN and WOODY take off running.
CUT TO: RANGER, GARRET, and MR. JENSEN, looking gravely concerned.
51. EXT. ANOTHER LOCATION IN THE FOREST - CONTINUING
JORDAN
Eric! Eric!
WOODY
Eric, can you hear me!? Eric!
JORDAN
(to WOODY)
I don’t see him anywhere.
WOODY
We’ve got to find him. ERIC!
They stumble on a little farther. There is a small noise.
JORDAN
Did you just hear something?
WOODY
No, what?
ERIC
(voiceover, crying)
Help!
JORDAN
There!
JORDAN points. From her P.O.V. we see through a clearing, a small maintenance
shed, probably used by the park rangers to store equipment. It has caught fire
and is starting to burn.
JORDAN
Oh, God, he’s in there.
WOODY
(shouting)
It’s all right, Eric! We’re coming to get you! (to JORDAN)
Stay here. I’ll be right back.
JORDAN
I’m holding you to that.
He gives her a quick kiss and hurries into the house. The camera cuts back and
forth from her anxious face to the door of the shed. Why is this taking so long?
He said he’d be right back.
JORDAN
(under her breath)
Come on, Woody…
52. EXT. ABANDONED RANGER’S STATION - AFTERNOON
MR. JENSEN
They should have been back by now.
GARRET
They’ll find him.
MR. JENSEN
How can you be so sure?
GARRET
(slight smile)
Because I know these two…
There is a beat.
RANGER
Well, I’ll be damned…
WOODY and JORDAN are coming out of the distance carrying ERIC. They reach GARRET,
MR. JENSEN, and RANGER. WOODY puts him down and he goes to his dad.
JORDAN
He’s okay. Scared, but okay.
MR. JENSEN
Oh, thank God. Thank God you’re safe. Why did you do that? Why did
you run? You scared the life out of me!
ERIC
I’m sorry, Dad.
MR. JENSEN
Don’t do anything like that again, do you hear me? Why did you do
that?!
ERIC
(bursting into tears)
I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I should never have wandered off like
that. I didn’t mean to do it! Please, dad, I’m sorry!
MR. JENSEN
It’s all right, Eric. I’m just glad you’re safe.
ERIC
I shouldn’t have done it. It’s all my fault.
MR. JENSEN
What’s all your fault? What are you talking about?
WOODY
(suddenly understanding)
Eric, what happened earlier today when you wandered off?
ERIC
Dad said we could have a bonfire. He said we could make s’mores.
He promised, and then when we got here, we weren’t allowed.
MR. JENSEN opens the backpack in dreadful comprehension. In it is a bag of marshmallows
and a box of kitchen matches.
MR. JENSEN
Eric! What have you done?
ERIC
I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I just wanted to have a bonfire! You
promised! I didn’t mean to do it! I didn’t mean it!
ERIC dissolves in tears and falls into his father’s arms. He embraces his
son, but his face is etched with pain – the pain of knowing what his son
has wrought. There is a silence while all contemplate what has just happened.
The silence is interrupted by something. A ROAR OF JET PROP AIRPLANE. GARRET,
JORDAN, WOODY, and RANGER look skyward.
53. EXT. AID STATION – SUNSET
BUG, LILY, KATE, and NIGEL stand at the aid station silent. Faces downcast.
Then the same SOUND OF JET PROP AIRPLANE.
NIGEL
Is that what I think it is?
54. EXT. SKY – SUNSET
In the fading sunlight, we see it, coming from the west: a C-130 Hercules with
NY ANG tail markings speeding towards them. As it reaches the forest, it drops
a trail of reddish-purplish flame retardant.
55 . EXT. AID STATION – SUNSET
NIGEL, KATE, BUG and LILY dance and hug jubilantly.
56. EXT. ABANDONED RANGER STATION - SUNSET
GARRET, RANGER, WOODY, JENSENS, and JORDAN doing pretty much the same thing.
Hugging, kissing. They’re going to be safe.
END OF ACT FOUR
ACT FIVE
57. EXT. AERIAL SHOT FOREST – SUNSET
There is a montage set to some typically evocative score by Wendy & Lisa.
Blackened trees. Smoke. Devastation. Acres and acres of it.
58. EXT. ANOTHER PART OF THE FOREST – SUNSET
A fire crew puts out a small but stubborn fire. We get the sense that there
is still work to be done in getting the fire out, but it is under control.
59. EXT. ABANDONED STATION – SUNSET
GARRET and JORDAN watch while the hiker’s body bag is loaded into a van
marked County Coroner.
60. EXT. ABANDONED STATION - CONTINUING
WOODY and RANGER are talking to local cops. MR. JENSEN is grim-faced as he
and ERIC get into the back of the squad car. The squad car pulls away. ERIC
turns in his seat and looks back at them. JORDAN raises a limp hand and waves.
61. EXT. CLEARING – SUNSET
It is the same location where BUG and LILY were to have had their ceremony.
It has been spared most of the worst of the fire damage. WOODY, GARRET, and
JORDAN are taking it all in, just walking around. JORDAN looks down at something
at her feet. From her P.O.V., we see it is LILY’s bouquet, just where
she threw it down that morning. JORDAN picks it up and WOODY crosses to her.
She shows it to him, and they both smile weakly.
62. EXT. AID STATION – GETTING DARK
NIGEL, WOODY, BUG, and KATE are waiting anxiously. Something catches their
attention. From their P.O.V., we see a car approaching. WOODY’s car. They
race toward the car. GARRET, WOODY and JORDAN exit. JORDAN hands LILY her bouquet.
Hugs and tears all around.
63.EXT. COZY COVE CABINS PARKING LOT – NIGHT
GARRET, NIGEL, BUG, LILY, KATE, JORDAN, and WOODY are gathered in the parking
lot to see BUG and LILY off. BUG and LILY have changed into traveling clothes,
but everyone else seems to still be in their grungy, grimy, “wedding”
clothes. BUG, NIGEL, and GARRET are loading bags into BUG’S car. NIGEL
and KATE are off to one side, and JORDAN, LILY, and WOODY are walking together
toward the car. LILY is carrying MADELINE.
JORDAN
(to LILY)
Well, this probably isn’t the way you thought the day would go.
LILY
You know…I think I knew all along with Jeffery it wasn’t going
to work out. It just didn’t feel right. I didn’t think
I ever wanted to go through that again, make that commitment, unless I was
100% sure. I don’t really know what I was waiting for. Bells and whistles?
But then all of a sudden, it just hit me. I am 100% sure. When it feels
right, you just know.
BUG crosses to her and takes her hand. Mischievous smiles spread across their
faces.
LILY
So…that’s why we’ve decided to get married!
JORDAN & WOODY
(ad lib)
Wow! Married! Lily, that’s…great! Congratulations! Etc.
JORDAN hugs LILY and BUG. Smiles all around.
JORDAN
Wow! When? How…
LILY
Well, we’re going straight to the airport and hop on the red eye
to Las Vegas, and – I don’t know – get married by the
first Elvis impersonator we run into!
JORDAN
I’m really happy for you both. Congratulations.
LILY
Thanks, Jordan.
BUG takes MADDIE from LILY and takes LILY’S hand and they walk to their
car while the gang waves goodbye. LILY notices that her salvaged bouquet is
still in her hand. She shrugs, smiles and tosses it over her shoulder. KATE
instinctively throws up her hands, and the bouquet lands in her grasp. She looks
at it distastefully while NIGEL looks on.
NIGEL raises an eyebrow.
KATE
Don’t. Don’t even say it. My blood sugar is low and the heels
on these shoes could be considered a deadly weapon in at least 38 states.
NIGEL says nothing but just smiles slyly.
Wide shot of them all waving. WOODY stands with his arm around JORDAN. They
wave as BUG & LILY’S car pulls out of the parking lot.
64. EXT. JORDAN AND WOODY’S COZY CABIN – NIGHT
It is dark, but a light is shining from inside the cabin.
65. INT. JORDAN AND WOODY’S COZY CABIN – NIGHT
WOODY and JORDAN are on the bed. She is dabbing at some cuts with disinfectant
and a washcloth.
WOODY
I’m sore in parts of my body I didn’t even know I had. Ow!
Jeez, Jordan, that stings!
JORDAN
You were shot in the gut, and you’re going to give me grief about
a little Bactine?
WOODY
I can’t help it. I’ve got sensitive skin.
JORDAN smiles at him.
WOODY (cont’d)
What? What’s funny?
JORDAN
(still smiling a warm, loving small)
Nothing.
JORDAN rubs a little circle clean on his forehead with a washcloth and kisses
him there.
WOODY
You were great today. Fearless.
JORDAN
Are you kidding me? I was…terrified. But I also felt, I don’t
know, safe. Being with you.
They smile lovingly at each other, but his face breaks into a teasing grin.
WOODY
You’ve got a little…
He indicates on his own face that she has a smudge of soot on her cheek.
JORDAN
What?
WOODY
Here. Let me.
He takes the cloth and lovingly wipes her face clean.
JORDAN
God, how awful must I look?
She’s laughing, not really caring how she looks, but she does, of course,
look awful. Hair in a million different directions, makeup smudged, face sooty.
WOODY
You don’t. You look beautiful.
She sits next to him on the bed.
JORDAN
This is nice. You and me. No pressure. Not that the first time wasn’t
great.
She looks at him with a seductive smile and a raised eyebrow. He grins back slyly.
WOODY
So, you think it was great, huh?
JORDAN
Yeah, I’d say it was pretty great in its own way.
WOODY
She said great.
JORDAN
Don’t push your luck, farmboy.
She smiles and kneels on the bed facing him. They both look an absolute fright.
JORDAN (cont’d)
When it’s right, we’ll know.
God Only Knows - Jonatha Brooks
CUE MUSIC; “God Only Knows” (Jonathan Brooke version)
He nods in agreement.
WOODY
Yeah…
They
hold each other’s gazes for a moment, their pleasant smiles gradually fading,
eyes locked on each other. He reaches up for her face, and she catches his hand.
There seems to be an electric spark. They lean in simultaneously, there is a kiss,
soft and gentle. They draw back slightly, eyes still on each other, and then back
in for a kiss, longer, building in intensity until she leans over and begins to
unbutton his shirt. He whips it off, still covering her face with kisses, and
reaches behind her to unzip her dress. They fall back onto the bed, still kissing,
hands pulling at unnecessary clothing.
WOODY (cont’d)
I love you…
JORDAN
I love you…
The camera pulls back away from the bed, out through the window into the darkened
night, leaving them alone as the bedside lamp switches out.
