Episode 24
There's No Place Like Home (09-23-02)

Brief Synopsis: Jordan continues the search to find the man who knew how her mom died in this 90 minute episode.

So this was the second part to last seasons finale.  And again we’re not really left with any answers about Jordan’s mother.  It seems too that Jordan’s trying to put her mother’s death on the back burner (at least when she’s around those she works with—smart move.)  Her obsession with the case is, sooner or later, going to get her in some serious trouble.

Jordan: Jordan’s on a mission.  After Redding—and getting closer to him.  Woody comes to her rescue twice.  Once he bails her out of jail and the second time he kills Redding to save her.  Speaking of that—it was so anti climatic.  Here we are pursuing him and he’s given Jordan some information and he’s about to kill her and bam Woody comes in and kills him.  I was like that’s it?  Wait a minute we’re missing something.  Come on there has to be more.  Jordan does get some information out of him.  Really it’s just more questions—again kind of frustrating.

I was relieved at the end that Max’s car and Jordan’s key weren’t a match.  Oh I don’t want to know what would have come of that, but I can tell you nothing good.  Of course now there’s a car out there somewhere with clues to Jordan’s mother and she’s not going to rest until she finds them.

Max and Jordan: Issues were stained at the end of last season and things have only gone down hill from there.  Those two need to sit down and have a heart to heart.  Max needs to tell Jordan everything little thing about Emily that he knows.  Especially revolving around her murder.  I think he’s hiding things.  And Jordan just won’t accept false stories or half stories.  She needs the truth—all the facts no matter how hurtful or disappointing.  She’s not going to let go of this and she’s not going to quit bugging Max with it.

If they could get pass Emily’s murder then things would probably be much easier between both of them.

Woody: The naïve boy from Wisconsin is gone.  Oh it would have disappeared soon enough, but I think Jordan sped up the process.  What I love about Woody is he’s so caring.  He really does look out for Jordan.  And he’s got very set moral standards.  He lives by the rules and he doesn’t like breaking them.  I was proud of him when he stood up to Jordan.  I like his reference to her being like an alcoholic.  It’s a fitting description—eventually everything she’s doing in secret is going to catch up with her.  She’s not fine despite what she tells everyone.  He knows she needs some help and he wants so much to be there to help her.  Now if only she’d let him in.  Woody is just what Jordan needs.  However I think she’ll never let him get too close.  She never lets anyone get to close.

Garret: First off Olsen has never been mentioned (to my knowledge) before and here he is claiming he got Garret the job.  I thought he asked Yakura for it back in season one?  Anyway I’ll let it pass.

Garret’s case was okay. What was more interesting was his reaction with Jordan.  How do you deal with someone like Jordan?  Yes Garret (despite his better judgment) wants Jordan back in the morgue, but just giving her job back isn’t going to deter Jordan’s behavior.  He needs a more responsible Jordan.  Oh she’s good at her job, but she’s got to get some of her issues in order and she needs to learn that rules weren’t created for her to break them.

Elaine: It seems that Elaine was brought in to cause tension—be the ‘bad guy’.  I thought she seemed strong willed but otherwise I haven’t formed an opinion.  I need to see more of her and more interaction with her and the rest of the staff.

Bug and Nigel preformed their usual roles.  Nigel’s back to doing Jordan’s every little request.  Bug was cute.  He doesn’t trust Elaine because she insists on calling him by his real name.  It looks like Lily is back and Trey is gone.  I had a feeling we’d seen the last of him.  He just was too normal to fit in with this eccentric cast.  I’ll miss him.  I liked him.

They mentioned this call Rene Walcott half a dozen times but no face.  That bugged the hell out of me.  I think she’s going to have some part of this season—what will all the hype about Rene out for the current DA’s job.

Why’d they change the opening credits music!  I loved that music.  It had that Irish beat that just set the tone for the show so well.  This whole new opening credits leaves much to be desired.  I want to know whose brilliant idea was it to change it!

Overall it was a decent season premiere.  It lacked a real tension that I think the cases warranted.  Some new characters were introduced and some old ones disappeared.

3 out of 5 Dead Bodies.
