Brief Synopsis:
Dr. Macy get's arrested for drinking while under the influence of alcohol and
his judgement on a trail case is called into question.
First to comment on the overall story. I
SO needed this episode to help me appreciate last weeks
episode. (even though I still have some qualms about
Loves Me Not) Last week left me feeling quite lost, a
little peeved, somewhat happy and somewhat not—overall
it left me feeling very unsettled. This episode
addressed many of the issues that were bugging me from
last week over the whole Woody-Jordan topic.
And I have to add—remember way back when,
when I was speculating over what the episodes could have
been about, based solely on their titles and said I
think and hope this
episode would deal with Garret’s issue mainly—it did!
I was so happy about that. That leads
me into my main like about this episode: Garret. I think
he needed an episode that focused on his drinking.
Granted we got a little Jordan-Woody-J.D. Elephant
action in there too….
Okay, so here I go. Bear with me.
Everything in this episode connected in someway or
another to multiple people and multiple stories. So I’m
going to try and break things down and analyze them as
clearly as I can.
First
let me state the interactions:
Garret: Garret’s main interaction is with
Rene and Jordan, and then Seely and Bug.
Jordan: Woody and J.D., Garret and Rene,
and Nigel
Bug: Lily and Jeffery, Seely and Garret.
Nigel: Everyone but Bug.
I loved Elephant in the Room,
but it was definitely a complex episode. So I salute
the writers because they did a fabulous job of it. I
really enjoyed the back and forths from story lines. It was complicated when you think about
it, but it flowed with a wonderful smoothness.
Garret:
Finally! Something has been started. Garret’s decline
has been noticed and Jordan has stepped in. She’s lied
to protect him (to Rene) and done her best to bend the
truth (on the stand) and then she’s given him an
ultimatum. Now I bet sooner or later the rest of the
morgue is going to be privy to Dr. Macy’s drinking
problem and there will be more support in his corner.
I think though that Jordan will be the one to get
through to Garret if he can be saved.
Once he pulls through this he’s
going to be owing some apologies. He exploded in this
episode. It’s the first time in FIVE years I’ve seen
Garret show more emotion than his normally stoic grimace
and occasional half smile. (apart from the episode One
Twelve) And I loved it. Garret has always been the
boss, removed from the family dynamic…not intentionally
so…but because of responsibility. He’s the head, the
one everyone looks up to. And he’s also responsible for
them, which has made him more distant from them.
I can’t wait to see the repercussions his
drinking is going to have on the staff. Already he’s
made Bug feel like a bad child. He’s rubbed some
feathers with Nigel and Lily and he’s made Jordan almost
cry. Like I said the staff will be behind him and
encourage his road to recovery, but he’s going to have a
lot of apologizing once he reaches that point.
Rene:
I’m really happy to see Rene back in the picture. I’ve
always liked the dynamic she and Garret bring to scenes
when they’re together. I do hope she sticks around for
more episodes this season, because I can see her having
an influence over Garret too.
Jordan
and Woody: Woody’s transformation this season has been a
highlight. He’s gone from this two-dimensional
character to a three-dimensional character with more
depth, more character, more personality. He’s not the
‘all is good and happy go lucky boy’ he was from season
one, two, three and a good portion of four.
Starting with Total Recall Woody
has started to balance out. Especially with Road
Kill Woody and Jordan started to move (slowly) back
towards the level they were on before Embraceable You.
Woody seems to have become 'less mad' at
the world. In fact in Road Kill he had some
sweet moments that were a 'new' Woody—a mix of the
carefree and serious guy. That was built on in A Man
in Blue (especially the scene at the end between
Jordan and Woody and Woody and Lu) and then Death
Goes On Woody still had that intensity, but he was
channeling it.
Then with Loves me not, the goofy case
brought out Woody's old self a bit more. And he seemed
a bit easier (less tense) when around Jordan, but he
still has that 'edgy-er' side to him. To me, it’s been
a good transformation.
It’s definitely fun seeing these two
transform (And yes Jordan has changed too). This season their relationship, to me,
has become a relationship. Okay, I’ll explain. Granted
they’ve not been in a relationship (with each other) the
past seasons nor are they now in a relationship, though
they’re getting closer. What I mean is their
interaction between each other. Jordan doesn’t run at
every turn. She’s come a long way from season 1. I
think Jordan has proved to herself that she can be in a
serious relationship and her life won’t go falling
apart, that bad things won’t come of it. We should all
say thank you to J.D.
So I was surprised at the mature reaction
we got from Jordan after waking up with Woody. She
realizes what she’s done and that she HAS to deal with
J.D. before she can even begin to decided anything
with/about Woody. Though she does a good job of
avoiding both of them until the end of the episode. It’s
nice to see Jordan feeling guilty over her actions. It
goes to show she knows sleeping with Woody (however
‘right’ it felt) was wrong (at this point in time).
Bottom line: I think
she's overwhelmed with what happened with Woody and she
hasn't begun to dissect those feelings yet, but she has
realized (because of the night she spent with Woody)
that J.D. isn't the 'one'.
On that note:
Jordan
and J.D.: Silence speaks a thousand words. And in this
case, maybe it was two thousand.
(Note: Please forgive me for pulling
those lyrics from Debbie Gibson’s song…I sincerely
apologize, but the lyric just said it all.)
I wouldn’t want to be in J.D.’s shoes
right now. I have sympathy for the man. It seems he’s
fighting a losing battle, but he’s trying so hard to
hold on. I admit I'm a J-W shipper, but I do believe
there are some deep feelings within Jordan about JD. If
she didn't have feelings for him, she could have very
easily just told him this is it—see you, goodbye while
at the morgue. Instead she's worried about how (and
probably what) she's going to say to JD.
I think Jordan's caught between two men,
that she cares for...it's just a matter of her deciding which holds her heart... Each man
has a part of her heart—each means something to her,
which is making her decision tough. If she chooses J.D.
there’s no going back from commitment. No more
running. If she chooses Woody they have a lot of issues
to still work through.
It’s never easy to break someone’s heart
and in the end that’s what she’s going to end up doing.
I think (from all that's happened) it's Woody who holds
the answer of happiness for Jordan, not to take anything
away from J.D.
Now as to what J.D. said to Jordan about
being able to slide past her indiscretion, if it didn’t
mean anything. I don’t think J.D. is a ‘nut case’
(or any other terminology that portrays crazy). I
do think he cares a great deal for Jordan.
Sometimes I question his actions, because I think
they’re based off of jealousy or fear of Woody.
That said, he has to
have some deep feelings for her if he’s willing to give
Jordan another chance--so after tonight I truly believe
J.D. is in love with Jordan. I think that Jordan,
however, is not 'in love' with him.
So to conclude, I think there was a great
deal said in the silence, but I don’t think everything
was said.
Nigel:
Nigel the love doctor. Okay raise your hand if you
think Nigel ‘slipped’ on purpose when talking to Woody?
He was giving Woody a heads up on what was going on. I
think Nigel wants to see Jordan with Woody. Nigel even
makes the remark, I didn’t think she’d go for him (or
something along those lines).
Sometimes I get the feeling Nigel is
trying to stay neutral and other times if feel he’s
rooting for Woody or J.D. Actually more specifically I
feel he’s rooting for ‘what’ (or whom as the case may
be) will make Jordan happy. And at first he thought
J.D. could do that (especially when Woody was on his
‘I’m mad at the world’ phase). Then as he saw Jordan
and Woody start to get past the anger they were feeling,
he started to see the old chemistry again and suddenly
he saw clearly it was Woody who Jordan would be happy
with, and hence the ring slip. I do think Nigel has
Jordan’s best interest at heart.
So when is Nigel
going to tell Jordan that J.D.'s going to propose (since
he's spilled the beans to everyone else)?
Lily
and Jeffery: What is it with Alpha Males?!?! Claiming their
territory. We’ve got some very nervous, untrusting
males on our hands here. J.D. and now Jeffery. He’s not
an idiot. He sees the looks Bug gives Lily. He feels
the vibes Bug gives off. And he goes and plays the same
Alpha male game J.D. just played. Since we already know
he’s a nervous guy, I wonder what this is doing to his
nerves.
I like Jeffery, but I feel like we still
know NOTHING about him. And while I found his
nervousness cute at the beginning it’s beginning to
annoy me a bit. And Lily and Jeffery are almost
becoming to ‘cutsy-woosty’ for me. The ‘chocolate
explosion’ scene almost had me throwing a pillow at my
TV telling the two to shut-up. That said, it does look
like Lily and Jeffery are getting along splendidly and
that they are both happy.
To continue on the topic…
Bug:
Bug and Lily, and where oh where is this story line
going? As I’ve stated before I just don’t see those two
together. Not anymore. And now this resurrection of
Bug’s feelings and HIM telling Lily. Man oh man things
have taken a complicated turn. Because I still don’t
believe Lily loves Bug. So how do you deal with it?
It’s almost like Jordan’s situation in that Lily’s going
to end up breaking one person’s heart.
I was extremely proud of Bug speaking his
mind. It’s about time he did. Actually I think it’s a
little too late that he did, but still it was nice to
see Bug finally express himself. Now it’s a waiting and
watching game to see where this goes.
Seely:
He’s growing on me so much. I mean, I already like him,
but he keeps doing things to make me root even harder
for him.
I loved the fact that Seely stood up to
Macy for Bug. And I have to say Bug and Seely dealt
admirably well together in this episode. Usually those
two are ready (well Bug anyway) to go at the others
throat. Working together on the interrogation was
great.
And a note, it looks like Seely has been
left out of Lily’s affection and he seems to realize
it. This saddens me, because I’m a die hard Lily-Seely
supporter.
Abby:
Wow four years makes a bit of a difference. Abby
definitely looks older, but still the same. I was NEVER
a fan of Abby to start with and if we get the whinny
Abby back I might just scream. I sure hope she’s grown
up a bit.
Side
Notes:
- Loved Woody taking pictures of Seely
stuck in the freight elevator and then his reaction to
the
shark.
- Those jeans Woody was wearing in the
re-enactment scene were GOD AWFUL UGLY!
- And lastly, raise your hand if you
laughed with me at the opening scene when Jordan and
Woody start having a NORMAL conversation like they’ve
been married for years and are used to waking up
together.
