Teaser:
Jordan’s Apartment, she’s entering, listening to music
on an Ipod. Pours herself a glass of wine. Hears
people screaming in apartment above her. Then hears gun
shot. Then she calls 911. She hears a girl scream.
Grabs her gun and goes upstairs. Looks into apartment
and sees a girl standing over a male body with a gun in
her hand. The girl turns around with the gun on her.
She drops the gun. The girl says he’s her father
(referring to the man who’s been shot). Jordan checks
on the guy. He’s dead. Jordan asks what happened.
Girl says she didn’t do it.
Act One:
Opening Scene: Woody and Lu in bed together. They’re
playing some word association game. Woody wants keep
playing the game. So they do. Lu says ‘Black’ and
Woody response ‘Blue’. Lu gives him a look and he says
he should have said ‘white’. Lu laughs and tells him
there’s no right answer. Lu says Woody’s gonna drive
himself crazy and quit obsessing over it. She tells
him: “Not every day has to be complicated.” Woody’s
cell phone rings. It’s Jordan. Lu roles eyes.
Woody arrives at scene of crime. The guy is a petty
criminal. Bug comes over from testing Kayla for GHR
(gunshot residue). Says she didn’t shot her father (Mr.
Dawson). They find some hi power guns in the
apartment. They think the man was branching out from
petty thievery and something went wrong.
Woody goes over to talk to Kayla. She says she was
here. Dad came home and told her to stay hidden. Some
one came in and then she heard the arguing and the gun
shots.
Jordan is talking with social worker. They don’t know
if they’ll even be able to place her. They’re walking
outside (social worker, Kayla, and Jordan). A black car
drives by and starts shooting. Jordan and Kayla duck.
The social worker is hit but Jordan and Kayla are okay.
Precinct: Woody and Jordan are talking. Kayla is
sitting just inside the room at a desk. Jordan says
maybe she should talk to her. She wants to talk to her
but Woody says he doesn’t know if it’s such a good
idea. Lu comes walking up. She brushes past Jordan and
goes up to Kayla. Woody makes a sheepish face and says
Lu’s going talk to her.
Morgue: Garret comes in. Wants Nigel’s help. Two
bodies are in trace. They were killed by drunk driver.
The dead guy is wearing expensive clothes. The other
body is of a young girl (age 17). She’s black and
obviously not well to do, just average. Nigel and
Garret wonder why the two of them were together. Lily
comes in and she recognizes the guy. He’s rich and
notorious for getting in trouble. His name is Paton
(Junior- the son, of a well to do family).
Precinct: Lu is talking to Kayla. Jordan is sitting
there watching. Lu says she understands how she (Kayla)
must be scared. Jordan cuts in and says she’s not
scared. Kayla is sitting there with her arms crossed
and a scowl on her face. Jordan starts talking to
Kayla. She gets Kayla to talk. She tells them she saw
the man but doesn’t recognize him. She describes him as
a white man with light hair.
Morgue: Old man comes in and identifies his son with
Garret. There’s a young lady there too—Mrs. Paton, the
man’s wife.
Lily is with the mother of the young girl killed in
crash.
Garret: Conference room 1 - Mr. Paton is talking with
him.
Lily: Conference Room 2 – She’s with the girls mother.
The mother doesn’t understand what her daughter was
doing with the man. She says they had a great
relationship and her daughter told her everything.
Conference room 1: Mr. Paton gives Garret a court order
saying he can’t release the autopsy results of his son.
He wants Garret to ask the girl’s family to sign
confidentiality report. He gives a spiel on how he’s
just trying to protect his son’s good name.
Garret goes and joins Lily. He explains that Mr. Paton
will cover all of her daughter’s funeral expenses if she
just signs a paper saying she doesn’t talk to people
about her daughter. The mother gets mad. She tells
Garret that basically they don’t want her going to the
press. She wants to know what it is they’re hiding and
why her daughter was with that man.
Lily breaks in on Garret, she wants to talk in private
with him. They argue.
Lady comes out. She says if they want to pay me must
have something to hide. Then walks out without signing
the confidentiality report.
Jordan in lab with Nigel. They’re doing some tests.
Nigel says the guy had sex shortly before he died—Nigel
reassures her that it wasn’t with his daughter. Blood
test comes back. The man who killed Kayla’s dad was
African American. Kayla lied in the description she
gave them.
Act Two:
Jordan talking to Kayla. She wants to know why she lied
to them. Jordan starts yelling at her. Lu breaks in,
trying to reassure Kayla.
Jordan starts yelling at Kayla again—trying to get
through to her. She yells: that her dad wasn’t doing a
good job, leaving her alone... Lu cuts Jordan off and
drags her out of the room. Lu gets mad at Jordan. And
Jordan says, Kayla doesn’t get what’s going on. She’s
just trying to help Kayla. Lu goes to go back in the
room without Jordan. She turns around before she enters
and says “for the record this is Boston PD’s job not
yours.”
Woody sees Jordan as she’s leaving the precinct. Says
he’s got the guy’s girlfriend. Woody explains Kayla’s
father hung out with pretty shady guys. The girlfriend
asks about the daughter. Girlfriend explains how he
really cared for her. GF says he saw him yesterday.
She says he told her a couple weeks ago some thugs
stopped at his door. He disappeared for a week and
didn’t share anything.
Morgue: Nigel calls Lily over. Rich father on news.
Bad mouthing the lady of the dead child.
Bug in morgue: Kayla’s Dad had a rash. He was allergic
to some plant. There’s only one state with that climate
to grows the plant he was allergic to—Louisiana. They
think maybe he was selling in someone else’s territory
and pissed someone off.
Kayla is in safe house. Lu is with her. Jordan shows
up. She wants to talk to her. She promises not to
yell. Jordan sits down with Kayla. She apologies about
what she says about her dad.
Lu
says she can stay and have dinner if she wants.
Morgue: Mrs. Lewis (dead girl’s mother) comes in. She
wants to know why he would say those things about her
daughter (referring to the statements Mr. Paton made on
the news). She wants to know what they’re so afraid of.
Safe House: Jordan and Lu talking at the safe house in
kitchen area. Kayla is sleeping on the couch. They are
talking about dating. Lu wonders why she doesn’t have
anything better to do on a Saturday night. Jordan says
Pollack is gone. She got involved with an old friend
and she wasn’t any good a lying like normal people and
so it fell apart with JD. Lu gets this ‘strangled’ look
on her face as she realized Jordan is talking about
Woody.
Kayla wakes up and sees a red lazar on wall. She wants
to know what it is. Jordan shots for Kayla to get
down. Shots fire. Police man rushes in.
Act Three:
Walking through the morgue. Lu and Woody talking about
the shooter. Woody asks if she’s ok. She says she’s a
cop, she’s fine.
Morgue: Bug explains that he found Dawson checking into
the hotel in Louisiana. With an FBI agent. He got the
video from the hotel security of the hotel Mr. Dawson
checked into.
Lily’s office: Mrs. Paton shows up. She wants to see her
husband (without her father in law). Lily asks if she
wants to meet with the girl’s family. Mrs. Paton says
she married into the family and knows she can’t ask
questions. There are certain rules that come with the
family…says she can’t talk.
Lily tries to appeal to her telling her the girl’s
mother would really like to know what happened. Mrs.
Paton leaves.
Police station: Jordan is talking with Kayla. She tells
Kayla she’s a tough kid. She can handle it. Kayla asks
how she knows. Jordan explains she lost her mom.
Jordan talks with her. Tells her that whatever they
throw at her not to let them beat her. She’s strong
enough to get through it.
Lily’s office: Garret comes in. Wants to know what Lily
did. He got a call from Mr. Paton. Garret and Lily
argue. Garret says they have a court order. There will
be no violating it, despite what Lily thinks best.
Nigel in lab: Lily comes up to him. Nigel has some
information. He said he was testing Robert Paton’s
blood and found that he carries the gene for sickle
cell. Lily comments on that’s only found in African
Americans. Nigel agrees so he starts explaining the
research he did on Robert Paton’s family. Apparently
the Paton’s are from the south. Robert’s Great
Grandfather had a child with a slave who he recognized
as his own child, hence the African American blood
traces in their family.
Precinct: Woody and Lu talking with Kayla. Jordan comes
up. They show Kayla a picture of the FBI agent her
father was with and asks her if that’s the guy she saw.
It’s not. She says if they have a sketch artist she can
help them. Then she wants to see her dad.
Lab: Garret comes in. Nigel explains the genealogy of
the Paton family. Nigel says they ran the DNA against
the girl’s and they’re related. Lily says he must have
traced his ancestry. Lily tells Garret he needs to
convince the Paton’s to release the autopsy reports so
she can explain to girl’s mom why the two were together.
Act Four:
In the morgue. Jordan is bringing Kayla to see her
father. She asks to see him alone. Jordan waits
outside.
Building: Woody goes to FBI agent. FBI agent says
Dawson was in way over his head. He won’t tell them
anything. Woody plays dirty. Says he’ll start asking
questions and causing problems for the FBI ruining their
case.
FBI agent finally spills. He explains that Johnny Major
was Dawson’s boss and he’s a part of the organized crime
lords of Boston.
Morgue: Jordan runs into Lily. Jordan is bringing a
drink to Kayla. They walk into morgue and Kayla’s not
there. Fire alarm goes off. Kayla’s bailed.
Lu
and Bug and Jordan in office. They have 4 suspects from
FBI. Playing back video they see Kayla left on her own
and wasn’t taken. They match one of the men with the
sketch.
Lily and Garret in office with Paton and daughter in
law. They’re trying to convince him to release the
report. He won’t. Lily starts screaming at him. He
refuses to change his mind. He doesn’t want to
acknowledge his heritage or have others know about it.
Travis’s place: (the mad who Kayla saw) Woody, Lu and
back up break into place. He’s not there. Woody asks
if you where her where would you go?
Jordan enters her apartment. She sees her gun missing.
She goes up to the third floor. She opens the door,
unlock. Jordan keeps calling her name out. No answer.
Then suddenly a gun it held to her head as Travis comes
up be hind her.
Act Five:
The guy asks where is she? Jordan says she doesn’t
know. Jordan struggles with the man. Then they see
Kayla outside. Jordan wrestles gun away and Kayla comes
in a hold the gun on Travis. Jordan tries to talk her
out of shooting the man. Finally Jordan gets the gun
from Kayla.
Morgue: Garret and Lily talking to girl’s mom. Explain
they can’t tell her. Then Mrs. Paton comes in.
Introduces herself to Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones asks what
her daughter and Mrs. Paton’s husband were doing
together. They walk off.
Woody shows up at Lu’s apartment. She’s just taken a
shower. Woody is nervous. He says he’ll get this over
with and apologize.
Lu
asks: This thing with Jordan is it over. She says they
have a history. Woody explains that Jordan is a good
friend and would he really want to be with a guy who got
over someone so quickly. Lu says she wants to be with
someone who wants to be with her. Woody says he’s here
now. They kiss.
Jordan with Kayla at her apartment. Kayla asks if she’s
going to call social services. Jordan says it’s late
why don’t you just crash here. Kayla says the social
workers will wonder where she is. Jordan tells Kayla to
get some sleep. They’ll worry about it tomorrow. Kayla
lays down. Jordan turns out the light.
