Play by Play Synopsis:

Teaser:  Kate meets Woody at the scene of a shooting.  He fills her in on a man being shot in the car, and another man shot in the street.  Woody then comments to Kate that things must be weird around the morgue because it is the day of Jordan's surgery.  He asks her if Jordan has left for the hospital yet and Kate says she was still there, and if they hurry things up he could probably get back in time to see her.  He tells Kate that he figured they would be busy so he just had something sent to her.  Kate then turns her attention to the victim in the car, and they discover it is a cop in plain clothes.  Woody can't believe it.  Then a young woman  runs over to the man lying in the street.  She is crying and screaming over the body and Woody goes to her and pulls her back.  He tells her she needs to stay behind the police tape.  She yells at Woody and says that they were suppose to keep him safe.  Woody has no idea what the girl is talking about until she tells him her fathers name and that he was suppose to testify against JJ Keene, a well known drug dealer in Boston.

Jordan is in the lab organizing some things and Garret comes in and tells her it is time to go to the hospital.  Jordan jokes about how some graduate student should do a study about how people spend their last few hours before major surgery.  How most people would be at home, but she is at work alphabetizing tissue samples.  Garret tells her that she can leave it alone and he will finish it later, but Jordan tells him she is almost done.  Garret quietly looks at her and she glances back and stops.  She realizes it is time to go.  She asks Garret if they can sneak out quietly because she does not want any hugs or flowers.  Garret asks her what is wrong with people bringing flowers, and Jordan tells him it is what people bring when someone dies.  Jordan takes Garrets arm and they leave the lab.  Meanwhile, most of the morgue staff has gathered in the main conference room to see Jordan off.  As Garret and Jordan walk by Nigel taps on the window and gestures for her to come in.  There are balloons and a big sign for her that says "Have a Wonderful Brain Surgery."  Jordan is a little shocked and does not say much.  Nigel brings the sign to her and tells her that it is not rocket science, it is just brain surgery.  Jordan smiles and tells everyone she will see them later.  Garret and her then walk toward the elevator and Garret tells her he knew nothing about the gathering, and Jordan comments on at least no one brought flowers.  Then the elevator doors open and there is a flower delivery man there and he asks Jordan if he knew where he could find "Jordan Cavanaugh."  Jordan gets in the elevator and tells him that she is out sick.

Act one: Woody is talking with the daughter of the man who was killed.  He asks her what her father knew and what he was going to testify to.  Tracy tells Woody that her father was just closing at his work and a van drove up outside his store and there were a bunch of men inside.  JJ Keene gets out of the van and pulls a boy from the back seat and throws him on the street and shoots him dead.  She then tells Woody that after the van drove off her father went over and tried to do CPR on the boy until the cops showed up.  Woody tells Tracy that her father was a very brave man.  She tells Woody that her father was a fool because you don't cross Keane and get away with it.  Suddenly they hear a car door slam and a man with a wreath of flowers.  He leaves the wreath hanging on the crime scene tape and tells Tracy he heard about what happened and that he is sorry for her loss.  Tracy does not say anything, but has a terrified look on her face.  Woody asks her if that man is JJ Keene and she nods in approval.  The man just gets back into his fancy SUV and drives away and Woody can't do anything about it.

Back at the morgue Nigel and Woody look up JJ Keene in the database.  Woody can not believe that he just came by the crime scene with a wreath.  Kate then comes into the room and asks them if they have heard any word on Jordan yet.  They both look at her like she has a third eye, and then Bug tells Kate that it is still early and she is probably still in pre-op.  Woody asks Bug if she got the flowers he sent.  Bug hesitates, but then tells Woody that she got them and that she liked them.  Nigel tells Woody that he is going to go to the hospital later on and maybe they could just go together.  Woody agrees.  Rene then comes in and can not believe that her main witness has been killed.  She informs them all that the mans testimony was her entire case.  Woody tells her that JJ Keene is their prime suspect, but Rene does not think it is him because he never carries a gun.  Woody tells Rene he is going to pick up JJ Keene and she tells him she will meet them at interrogation.  She then informs him that Keene's lawyer has already typed a motion to dismiss the previous case of killing the young boy.

Jordan is in her hospital room and there is a doctor checking her out and explaining to her about the procedure.  The doctor tells her that they will be ready to take her to surgery in a few minutes, and then he leaves the room.  Garret sits on her bed and Jordan tells him that it is pretty amazing that they can do the surgery like they told her.  Jordan then tells Garret that when she was filling out the admissions forms she put him down as her legal guardian.  Garret then asks about her Dad, but Jordan tells him that they have not spoken in ages.  Garret tells her that maybe it is a good time to call him, but Jordan tells him that the last thing she needs is her Dad stalking the halls and badgering the nurses.  She then tells Garret that they both know there is a pretty good chance that she may not come out of the surgery the same person.  Garret tells her that is not going to happen, but Jordan stays realistic and tells him that it is possible.  She pleas with him that if something happens and she is not able to end it for herself then he do it for her.  Garret again tells her that nothing is going to happen, but Jordan makes Garret promise her that he will do this for her.  Garret puts a hand on her cheek and nods his head.

Woody has JJ Keene in interrogation and can not believe that JJ's alibi is that he was at church with his mother.  He tells Woody that his mama likes to go early to church so he takes her when he can.  Rene and JJ's lawyer are also in the room and Rene comments on how JJ's people could have easily shot and killed the man.  Woody tells JJ that Bobby Seaver was a good man with a loving family, and JJ tells him that is why he brought the wreath.  Woody then asks him how he knew that Bobby Seaver had been killed if he was in church.  JJ claims that it is his neighborhood and he knows everything.  Rene then asks the lawyer how he had a motion to dismiss the previous murder charges so quickly, but he simply just says he is that good of a lawyer.  Rene then gets a call and it turns out that because they no longer have a witness they are ordered to release JJ on the previous murder charge.  JJ and his lawyer leave and all Rene and Woody can do is stand there.

Bug and Nigel are in the lab doing some work talking about Jordan.  Nigel points out that even after surgery she will still have a long road to climb.  He heard that having a pet could be a positive for post-op patients.  Bug does not think it is a good idea.  He comments on how Jordan can not even keep a plant alive.  They then turn their attention to the case.  They are looking at pictures from the shooting involving the police officer and Bobby Seaver.  There is a bloody handprint on the car, but it is too smudged to know who's it is.  They realize that they have nothing on JJ when it comes to trace and forensics.

Jordan is being wheeled to the surgery room and Garret is walking along side the gurney holding her hand.  Jordan tells him that he does not have to stick around the hospital the whole time she is in surgery, but he tells her it will give him time to catch up on his magazines.  As they turn the corner and are just about to go through the doors Jordan tells Garret that if she does not make it she wants to be buried at St. Ann's.  Garret tells her to stop it, and Jordan starts to stress a little and can not believe she did not write these things down.  She tells Garret to repeat it "St. Ann's", and he does so she can relax a little.  As the doctors start wheeling her again Jordan tears up and tells Garret to try and find a place close to her Mother.  Garret kisses Jordan's hand and tells her he will.  It is an emotional moment for both of them.  They wheel her through the "restricted area" doors and Garret is left standing in the hallway alone.

Act two: Back at the Morgue, Woody stops buy to check on Tracy who is in the conference room looking through her fathers belongings.  She shows Woody a wallet she gave to her father for Fathers Day about 10 years ago.  It still had the same pictures in it from the day she gave it do him.  There is a picture of Tracy and her sister.  She then begins to cry and Woody reaches for the tissue box on the table and notices the sign the morgue staff made for Jordan.  Tracy then asks Woody how a person can be there one minute, and then all of the sudden they are gone.  Woody can relate to this because it is about the time that Jordan is going into surgery and he is worried about her.

Jordan is in surgery and the doctors prepare to put her under.  They say her heart rate is good and they are ready to go.  After a few seconds of breathing in the anesthesia Jordan is out and the doctors are ready to begin.

Kate finishes an autopsy and Bug comments on how quick she was getting it done.  Kate says there are so many bodies and so little time.  Nigel confirms that the bullets found in Bobby Seaver's body did not all come from the same gun, so there was probably more than one shooter.  Kate comments on how the FBI should have a user friendly database they could use to compare striations on the bullets.  Nigel tells her he decided not to wait around and designed his own program that can access all 50 states.  It is called the Neo Algorithmic National Comparative Index (NANCI).  He starts the program and tells them it will take awhile to run.  Woody then comes in to see if they heard anything on Jordan.  Kate fills him in on what she found from Bobby Seaver's body, and then tells him he will have to wait on results from the officer shot because Bug is not finished yet.  Woody then tries to give Kate another file from a few months ago.  In short, Kate tells him no and walks out of the room.  Woody follows her into the hallway and tells her that if they can dig up some new forensics he can get Wolcott back on track. Kate tells him she has a dozen cases to do, but Woody keeps pushing.  Kate tells Woody that she does not work for him, and Woody agrees...she works for Dr. Macy, who he did not want to have to bother today because he is at the hospital with Jordan.  Woody pulls out the phone to call Dr. Macy, but Kate stops him and takes the file.  Woody thanks Kate and walks away.

Nigel is in the lab opening a huge box with an aquarium inside.  He tells Bug it is for tropical fish for Jordan's hospital room.  Bug tells Nigel that they just had the "no pets" conversation, but Nigel is convinced Jordan will like the fish and they will be good for her.  Bug asks why Nigel is doing this, and Nigel's face turns serious.  He says he just has to do something.  He is worried about Jordan.

Garret is in the waiting room at the hospital looking through magazines.  A woman tells him to pace himself because it usually takes longer than the doctors say it is going to.  She introduces herself as Rachel, and tells Garret that her daughter is in surgery.  She has been through six surgeries in five years.  She says the surgeries are almost harder on her son, who is sitting in the background.  Rachel asks why Garret is there, and he tells her he is there with a friend he works with who is a lot like family.  Rachel asks where they work, and he tells her he is a medical examiner at the morgue.  Rachel then tells him she needs to go check on her son.  She obviously does not want to talk to Garret anymore because her daughter is already close to death.

Act three: Kate is going through the file of the kid shooting and tells Woody she has found nothing new...that Jordan was very thorough.  Woody tells her there has to be something.  Kate does tell him there was one hair they found that they were not able to test because Ivers had taken away some of their equipment.  She tests it and and tells Woody it is a 50% match to Bobby Seaver.  They figure it was the daughter, Tracy.  Kate tells Woody she called the DA to notify them Tracy was a witness to the shooting along with her father.  Woody is pissed because he knows that if word gets out Tracy was there and is a witness to the shooting JJ did then she is as good as dead.

Woody rushes to Tracy's house and knocks at the door.  He then hears gunshots and runs into the street to see what is going on.  He sees a cars windows have been shot out, and JJ Keane is sitting on the bench on the side of the road.  He tells Woody he saw an SUV, but he didn't catch the plates.  Woody grabs him and searches him...he has no gun.  He claims he was at a store around the corner.  Woody has to let him go, but not before JJ threatens him and tells him that somebody doesn't want him lurking around this neighborhood.

Garret is still in the waiting room and Nigel arrives with a sandwich for him.  Nigel sits next to Garret and tells him he was wanting to be there for when Jordan got out of surgery.  Garret tells him that there is a chance that it still may be awhile because these things sometimes take longer than expected.  In surgery the doctors are doing the entire procedure through Jordan's nose.  We hear the doctor say that there was a lot more there than he was hoping for.  All of the sudden they see there is some bleeding and she is starting to lose pressure.  They think there is a chance they hit the carotid artery.

Back at the police station Woody observes Rene talking to Tracy in interrogation. They know she was there the night the kid was shot and she is a witness who can help put JJ behind bars.  Rene starts showing her pictures of the kid lying dead on the street.  She then starts telling Rene what happened.  Her hair got on the body because she was trying to pull her Dad off him because she knew it would mean trouble.  She ended up running home, but her father stayed until the police got there.  Tracy then tells Rene that if she testifies they will kill her.  Woody then rushes into the hallway and catches Rene and she leaves the interrogation room.  He tells her she can not make Tracy testify, but Rene thinks differently.  She says they can protect her.  She then tells Woody that maybe personal issues are clouding his judgment, and maybe he is trying to save someone else.  Woody is shocked at the implication, but there was also some truth to it.  Rene tells him that the trial starts in two days and they will protect Tracy.  Woody tells her he has a better idea.  He decides he is going to watch Tracy, and he ends up taking her to the morgue.  He brings her to Jordan's office where they just hang out.  The flowers he sent Jordan are on her desk, and he puts them in some water for Jordan.  Tracy then asks why he is doing this, and Woody tells her he wants to nail JJ. Tracy does not believe that is possible.  Woody assures her that together they are going to make it happen.  Tracy tells him that just because you want something to be a certain way, does not mean it is going to happen that way.

Nigel is in the lab with the aquarium full and filled with fish.  Kate asks him how he plans on getting the tank to the hospital now that it is filled, but Nigel says nothing.  Bug asks him how Jordan is doing, and he tells them she is doing fine.  They are not buying it and Bug asks again.  Nigel tells them there has been some bleeding but the doctors are getting it under control, it just might take a little longer.  Bug starts taking off his lab coat and tells Nigel he will go back to the hospital with him.  Kate stays to take care of things.  Woody then comes in and asks if they have gotten any results back from Nigels "toy" NANCI.  They check and it turns out that the two guns used in the shooting were also used in a crime in Philadelphia a year and a half prior.  Kate pulls up the ID's of the two suspects in that crime, and Woody gets them to the police station.  In interrogation the two men claim the guns were stolen and they do not have them anymore.  Woody is not buying it.  He shows them pictures of the two people killed, and informs them that one of them was a police officer.  One of the men starts to get a scared look on his face, and Woody works him a little.  But he has no luck and the man claims he knows nothing.  Woody holds them overnight.

In the waiting room Nigel has fallen asleep on Bugs shoulder while Bug reads a magazine.  He is awoken by the thunderstorm and Bug tells him that Dr. Macy has been pacing for about 40 minutes.  Nigel says something to Garret, but he is determined to find out what is taking so long since it is 3:00am.  A custodian walks out of the "restricted area" doors and Garret sneaks in and locates Jordan's surgery room.  He watches through the window as the doctors work on her.  A nurse comes in the room and sees him and tells him he has to leave.  He tells her he is a doctor and he needs to be there.  She allows it.

Back in Jordan's office Tracy is asleep on the couch and Woody is sitting at Jordan's desk holding the snow globe Jordan got from her father.  He is worried about her.

Act Four:  IN the waiting room Garret comes across Rachel's son.  He asks Garret if he works in a morgue, and what will happen to his sister if she dies.  Garret talks with him, and the boy seems to feel a little better about things.  Bug is also in the waiting room and he gets a call from Nigel who has gone back to the morgue to get the aquarium.  When he enters the lab he sees that all the fish are dead except one.  Woody comes in and sees the aquarium and tells Nigel it doesn't look good.  Nigel then reads about the one fish who is still alive and it was to be kept in a separate take because it is a fighting fish.  Woody asks how Jordan is doing, but Nigel snaps at him about not going to the hospital.  Woody tells him he has been with a witness, and Nigel just continues to tell him that Dr. Macy has not slept in two days, and that he and Bug have been there almost the entire time and that Jordan is fighting for her life.  Nigel then leaves.

Woody and Kate are back to working on the case and are hoping to find something that will prove the two guys he has in jail had something to do with the murder.  Kate shows Woody the smudged hand prints and they think they may have something.

Jordan is now out of surgery and in a recovery room, but she has not woken up yet.  Nigel comes in with a small fish take with just the one fish.  He tells Bug he has named the fish Evander after Evander Holyfield the fighter.  Garret then comes in to share with them what the doctor said.  Her vitals look good, but a segment of the meningioma was entwined with the carotid artery and so they had to leave it in.  It is something Jordan will have to live with the rest of her life.  They do not know if it will ever be a problem, or there is the chance it will not effect her.  Bug tells them that the anesthetics should have worn off by now and why hasn't Jordan woken up.  Garret tells them that the doctors do not know why Jordan has not woken up yet, because she should have.

Act Five:  Woody is back in interrogation with the two men and show them pictures of the hand prints and tell them they have proof they are their hand prints.  Rene and Woody start scaring them about where they are going to send them.  One of the men ask what they are offering, and they want them to give up Keane.  Both the men do what is asked of them and Rene and Woody make their case work.  Woody gets on the phone and puts out an APB on JJ.  He then goes to the morgue and picks up Tracy after JJ was caught.  Tracy is safe and she does not have to testify.

At the hospital Rachel is talking to Garret in the hallway and thanking him for talking to her son.  She then asks about Jordan and Garret tells her that Jordan is not concious yet.  He is obviously just barely hanging on by a thread, and she tells him to hang in there.  Woody then comes into the hallway and Garret is very happy to see him.  He shows him to Jordan's hospital room and Nigel and Bug are in there too.  Later, Garret is sleeping on a pullout bed next to Jordan's, Nigel is asleep on the couch, and Bug is sleeping on the floor.  Woody, however is sitting in a chair next to Jordan's bed just looking at her, waiting for her to open her eyes.  Looking though the class of the fish tank, we see Jordan's face, and her eyes open.  She looks at the fish, and then looks at Woody, who has now stood up and come closer.  He tells her "hi", but Jordan does not say anything.  She just looks at Woody.
