Teaser:
We open with the Bangles song of "Walk Like an Egyptian"
and Woody and Bug walking down the hallway of the
morgue. Woody is holding a prosthetic leg asking
Bug to confirm that it is the murder weapon on the case
they are working on. Bug confirms that the wife's
handprints are all over the ankle and the husbands brain
are all over the shin, so he is pretty confident it was
the murder weapon. They hear something fall in the
room next door and then hear Kate yelling at somebody.
They go into the room and find a guy delivering a huge
box of something, and he has dropped one of the sides.
Bug asks what is in the box, but Kate says it is a who
and pulls off the sheet to show that there is a mummy
inside. Woody jokes and asks her if she has run
out of fresh bodies and needs some freshening up.
Kate does not laugh and just tells them that she has
been asked to find out how she died and who is
responsible. Woody jokes again and says that Kate
is like "Indiana Switzer," but Kate just stays on task
and explains how she has helped with things like this
before.
Jordan is sitting in
her office researching on the computer and her cell
phone is ringing. She does not answer and
continues her research on meningiomas, learning about
causes, symptoms and treatments. As she is looking
at her computer her vision turns blurry. She opens
her desk drawer and takes a pill from a prescription
bottle. Jordan goes back to work, but her vision
is still blurry. Garret then comes in her office
and asks if she is avoiding him. Apparently it was
him who called on her cell. Jordan claims that she
is just busy. Garret then tells Jordan he has a
body in a cemetery that has been dumped in an open
grave. He hands her a piece of paper with the
address on it, and Jordan just stares at it for a
moment. Garret notices something is off and asks
her what is going on. Jordan says she is a day
behind on an autopsy, and still has four other cases she
needs to close on. Garret says his case load is
open and he can make the pick up for her. Jordan
takes him up on it and tells him she should be caught up
by lunch.
Garret arrives at the
cemetery and his favorite cop Seely is waiting for him.
Neither of them are too excited about having to work
with the other, but they get right to business.
Seely tells Garret that the cemetery grounds keeper
found her, a girl buried in an empty grave. Garret
climbs down the ladder to the body so he can examine it.
He brushes away some of the dirt and finds the girls
face. She is only sixteen years old. Then a
cell phone starts ringing. Garret finds the girls
purse and digs out the cell phone. It is the girls
parents calling her, so Garret does not answer the
phone.
Act
one:
Garret and Seely are at the parent's house talking with
them about the case. They are obviously upset
about the loss of their daughter. Seely asks them
if they knew where Cindy was the previous night, but
they had just gotten back into town from a trip.
Seely then asks if they know how to get a hold of her
friends or her boyfriend. It is apparent that the
parents don't really know who their daughter hung out
with because they are not able to give them much
information. This annoys Seely, but Garret assures
the parents they are going to find out who murdered
their daughter. As they are leaving the house
Garret and Seely argue about the fact that the parents
don't even seem to know their daughter. Garret
points out that Seely does not even have kids, so he
does not have a say in this situation. Seely just
walks away.
Back at the morgue
Jordan is in autopsy going over Cindy's body.
Nigel is working with her on the case and is analyzing
the sheet she was wrapped in. Garret then comes in
with Seely close behind and asks Jordan what she is
doing. Jordan tells Garret that he was just to do
the pickup, that did not mean she needed him to take her
case. Jordan asks if the parents were any help,
but Seely informs her that they weren't. Jordan
updates them on the cause of death, which is
strangulation with some type of ligature. Nigel
jumps in and adds that there were silk fibers in the
wound that suggest a necktie. He also adds that
there was some sweat left on Cindy's forehead, probably
from the murderer while she was being strangled.
Kate is in trace
opening up the tomb of her mummy. Bug is also in
trace working on another body, but is watching Kate and
seems to be annoyed. Woody then comes in and is
being a punk, walking and acting like a mummy.
Kate is not amused and asks him why he is not out
directing traffic. All three of them start talking
about the case a little, and the history behind it.
Woody gets a little lost in the conversation, but tries
to keep up.
Seely is rushing down
the hall and Jordan is coming out of autopsy and
accidentally hits Seely with the door. Jordan
apologizes and then updates Seely on the case. The
saliva they found is male, but they have not found a
match yet. They then start discussing Cindy's
friends and Jordan asks if they have been any help.
As they are visiting Nigel is at the computer and starts
snickering a little. Both Seely and Jordan turn
their attention to Nigel to see what he is doing.
Apparently Nigel located a website from Cindy's cell
phone and it is of her personal blog page. It has
pictures of her friends and logs of messages and chats.
There is reference to a secret and they are all curious
to what the secret is. They think it is the kind
of secret someone would either kill to find out or kill
to keep quiet.
Woody and Bug
finalize things on the case they were working on and
close their case. They then turn their attention
back to Kate and the mummy and ask her how things are
going. Woody is still into making jokes about
things but Kate stays on task. Kate fills them in
on what she has found and then refers to the mummy by
name. Bug notices this and points it out to Kate
and Woody. Kate points out that the mummy is part
of history, but Bug points out that everyone is a part
of history. Kate then gets some disturbing
information on the computer and they find out that
because of a material used in a filling in her tooth
there is no way the woman was the historical mummy they
thought she was. She actually died less than four
years ago.
Jordan is in her
office and digs out her pills out of her purse. As
she is opening them her hand cramps and she drops the
pills and the bottle on the floor. She squats down
to try and pick them up, but her hand is still shaking
and cramped. Garret then comes to the door and
Jordan is still down on the floor trying to pick up her
pills. She tells him that she is just having a
clumsy day and smiles, looking guilty. Garret
squats down and picks up the bottle. Garret
notices that it is a pretty strong drug for her to be
taking for just a headache. He then tells her that
he knows she is not a clumsy person and for her to pick
up her pills. Jordan knows that Garret is starting
to figure things out, so she stands and goes to her desk
and pulls out a scan of her brain. She asks him if
he remembers the meningioma victim she showed him last
week, and then hands him the picture of her brain.
She tells him that the victim isn't dead yet, and Garret
realizes she is talking about herself. He asks
what she is doing for treatment, and Jordan says she is
just taking the pills. He tells her she has
options like surgery, but Jordan says that one of her
options is also leaving it alone. Garret
knows that is not treatment, and tells Jordan she needs
to go home. Jordan does not want to go home and
tells him that she needs to go meet Seely.
Garret tries to stop her and tells her she does not need
to know, but Jordan insists that she does have to go and
walks out the door.
Act
two:
Jordan and Seely are interviewing two of Cindy's friends
to see if they have any information that could help them
out. Apparently they were suppose to meet up with
them, but never showed. They ask the girls if they
know about Cindy's secret, but they both stay quiet.
They show them Cindy's website and tell the girls they
are not trying to get them in trouble with their
parents, they just want to see if something to help them
find who did this to Cindy. Mel, one of the girls,
tells them that everyone has a page like that and it is
all one big tease. Then Mel's Dad comes home and
find them being interviewed. Jordan and Seely tell
the girls to call them if they can think of anything
else that might help with the investigation.
Kate is unwrapping
the woman very carefully so as to not lose any trace.
Woody asks her why it is taking so long, but Kate tells
him that it is not like Scooby Doo. Bug then
informs Woody of the mummification process, which takes
about ten weeks. Kate is now back to calling the
mummy and "it" rather than by it's name. Both
Woody and Bug notice this, but Kate tells them that it
is just a part of a case like anyone else.
Jordan is in the
elevator going back up to the morgue. As she is
watching the numbers light up she gets dizzy and light
headed and falls back against the wall. The
elevator doors open and everything is blurry.
Jordan does not want to pass out in front of anyone, and
does not want anyone to see her like this. She
reaches for the buttons and closes the elevator doors.
She leans against the wall and waits for the light
headedness to pass and then opens the doors again.
She walks out and stops at reception. Woody then
comes through the doors and complains to Jordan about
Kate. He then looks at her and notices something
is wrong. He asks her if she is ok, and she says
she is fine and walks away. Woody is left standing
there wondering if Jordan is really ok. Jordan
starts to go toward her office, but notices Garret
heading in there as well, and in order to avoid him she
heads the other direction. Seely then runs into
Garret as he is heading to Jordan's office looking for
her. Garret tells Seely he wants to be at the
house with the parents, but Seely tells him he does not
need to do that. Garret also tells Seely that he
can run trace, but Seely tells him that Jordan can
handle it. Garret tells him that Jordan is not
here, so he is going to handle things.
Kate has finished
unwrapping the woman's body and now has it is a huge tub
and is spraying water on her to clean off the body.
Woody comes in and complains about the guy at the museum
that the mummy came from in the first place and
apparently he was no help. Kate defends the guy
and says it is his job because he needs to find an
eighteen million dollar mummy that has been stolen.
Woody bets that someone who works at the museum probably
took it and that is also their killer. Kate yells
at him to go and do his job and find the guy, and to
leave her alone so she can do her job.
Seely, Garret and
Nigel are searching Cindy's room and Cindy's mom is
wondering what they are looking for. Seely is kind
of a jerk about asking the mom because he does not think
she cared about Cindy much when she was alive.
Seely is a little out of line and the mom leaves the
room. Garret goes off on Seely and then they go
back to searching. Seely comes across a box with a
bunch of cash in it, and Nigel finds something on
Cindy's computer. Cindy has a sex page on her
website, and that is her secret. Cindy's Dad then
comes into the room to yell at Seely for being such a
jerk, but then he sees his daughters web page and sees
her striping on the bed. Garret yells at Nigel to
turn it off, but Nigel does not to it quick enough and
the Father is traumatized because he has found out
Cindy's secret.
Act
three:
Kate is in autopsy with the body and seems to possibly
be showing a little emotion. Woody then comes in
and asks how things are going with the case and she
draws his attention to the computer where the girl has
been identified. Her name was Kimberly Wannamaker
and she was apparently homeless. Kate tells him
that she will give him the full report when she is done.
Jordan arrives at
work and is walking toward her office. Garret is
in his office and notices her and yells at her through
the window. Jordan just keeps walking toward her
office and slams the door behind her. Garret walks
in and tells Jordan that he has been thinking about what
she told him, and then Jordan changes the subject
immediately to the case. Garret explains what
happened at the house and tells Jordan she should have
seen the look on the fathers face. Jordan yells at
Garret that she missed it since he took Seely and took
over her case. She is very upset, but Garret tells
her it was not just her case, it was their case.
Jordan doesn't buy it. Garret tells her they need
to talk about her health, but she claims she does not
need to talk about it. They continue to argue,
then Nigel walks in with some information on the case
and interrupts the argument. He motions that he
can come back later, but both Jordan and Garret tell him
to stay and give them the information. Apparently
Cindy's page was pretty popular and Nigel has been
tracking the hits on it to a lot of married men from
around the world. He has found one person in town
that could be a suspect. Jordan says that she is
calling Seely, but Garret takes the phone from her hand
and tells her that he will call Seely. Nigel takes
this as his cue to leave. Garret looks at Jordan
and tells her to let him know when she is ready to talk.
Woody is at the
computer going through the names of the museum people
but he has no leads so far. Bug is there working
on the case as well, and Kate joins them to see what is
going on. She also informs them that she has cause
of death. Apparently the girl froze to death.
Kate is happy that she has done her part and walks away.
Woody tells her that maybe if they found out where she
died...but then Kate cuts him off and says she is done
because she has determined ID and cause of death.
She also points out that it is not a homicide anymore so
technically he is done too.
Garret and Seely are
questioning a suspect in interrogation. The man
tells them that he met her at the mall and when they
went into the bathroom to have sex he couldn't do it.
He felt that the Cindy was too young...much younger than
the other girl he had done this with before. Seely
asks about the other girl, and the man says her name was
Melissa. Seely pulls out a picture of the three
friends and the man ID's Melissa from the photo.
Act
Four:
Jordan is back in autopsy going over the case with Seely
and Nigel. Jordan comments how these girls lead
double lives and the parents are oblivious to it all.
Garret then comes in and tells them all that the
suspect's DNA did not match what was on Cindy so they
are back to square one. Nigel then tells them he
has a lead. There was carpet fibers found in the
sheet Cindy was wrapped up in and he finally found out
where they came from. They are from a Highlander,
which just happens to be the same car Melissa drives.
Jordan goes to leave and Garret shouts at her, but she
tells him she is just going to go talk to Melissa.
Woody and Bug are
both on a computer doing some searching, but bickering
about Kate. They can not believe how insensitive
she can be. They start joking about Kate, but do
not realize that she is standing in the doorway.
Kate speaks up and asks them if they are back in high
school, and if they have something to say then to say it
to her face. Woody jumps up and tells her that she
treated the mummy like she was royalty until it was
determined she was not the mummy she thought she was and
then it was back to business as usual. Woody cuts
her off and tells her she does not care about anyone.
Bug interrupts them because he has found something.
Kimberly had been checked into the hospital for
exposure. It tells that she lost her mother at
eight years old, and also some other history about her,
and Woody tells Kate that she was not an "it."
Kate turns and walks out of the room and closes the door
behind her. She seems to be somewhat hurt by
Woody's attitude.
Seely and Jordan are
in interrogation with Melissa and her parents.
Melissa is freaked, but it looks like she wants to talk.
Jordan tells Melissa she knows she did not kill Cindy
because it was a man, but they know she was there.
Woody and Bug are
still trying to locate who was responsible for losing
Kimberly's body at the hospital. They cross
reference the hospital staff on duty the night Kimberly
died with the list of museum employees and they find a
brother and sister.
Jordan and Seely are
on the other side of the class talking now. Jordan
tells Seely she just does not see Melissa as a killer.
Melissa tells the police officer in there with them she
needs to use the restroom. Jordan sees this as an
opportunity to go into the hall and talk with Melissa
without her parents present. She stops Melissa and
starts talking to her, but then her father comes out and
stops it. Jordan continues talking to Melissa and
tells her she has a legal right to talk with them.
Melissa is still quiet, but appears to be thinking about
talking.
Act Five:
In
interrogation Melissa is finally talking. She was
at work at the hotel where she answers phones and makes
reservations. She knows which rooms are open so
she could keep a room open for them to use when
organizing the dates. Cindy was meeting a guy that
night in one of the rooms. Cindy usually came by
to see Melissa after the date was finished, but this
time she didn't. So both her and Stephanie, the
other friend, when in to check on Cindy. They
found her laying dead on the floor. They were too
scared to call the police because then their secret
would be out. Jordan tells her they need to know
exactly where in the room they found Cindy. They
go to the hotel room and Melissa shows them where
Cindy's body was. Jordan confirms that Melissa is
telling the truth. Nigel then steps in to see if
he can find any fingerprints. He finds some
handprints and scans them into the computer.
Melissa's father now appears to be a little nervous and
tells Seely he wants his daughter and his wife to leave
the room. Nigel is running the fingerprint and
then Melissa's fathers picture comes up. He is the
killer. He tells Melissa that Cindy was going to
tell her that he was one of the guys wanting a date, and
he had to stop her. Melissa and her mother are
crying, shocked at what has happened.
Woody is in
interrogation with the brother and sister responsible
for stealing the mummy and also faking Kimberly as the
mummy. He shows them pictures of Kimberly and the
injuries on her body from the mummification. Woody
can not believe that the entire ten weeks they were
mummifying her they did not think it might be a bad
idea. He tells her that even thought Kimberly was
homeless, it still mattered.
Back at the morgue
Kimberly's body is already boxed up and Bug is putting
it in the freight elevator. He tells Woody that
Kate had her boxed up before he could stop her.
Bug is a little sad though because she will be going to
an unmarked grave. Woody is more upbeat saying
that at least she is leaving her as a human being, and
Bug jokes about how that is more than he can say about
some of his colleagues (while he is looking at Kate in
the hallway). At Kimberly's grave we see that
there is a small grave marking and Kate is there and
put's flowers on the grave.
At the police station
Jordan and Woody are in the hallway talking about
Jordan's case. Woody then asks Jordan if she wants
to go grab some dinner, but she tells him she does not
feel up to it. He then asks her if she is sure she
is ok, because the last couple of days she has seemed a
little off. Jordan assures him that she just has
had a lot of work and she is tired. She thanks him
for the offer and tells him good night.
Garret and Jordan are
in Garret's office talking about the case and how hard
it is to know your kids. They both sit down on the
couch and Garret tells Jordan he spoke to her doctor.
She did not follow-up and she needs trans-nasal surgery
now. Jordan asks Garret if he knows the risks in
that, that she could probably die, have a stroke, or be
paralyzed. He tells her that all that could happen
if she does nothing. Jordan makes excuses and says
stress causes symptoms and symptoms can go away.
Garret is not buying it, and tells her that there are a
ton of chemicals in the morgue that she is breathing
everyday that are linked to tumor growth. Jordan
is now standing and pacing in the room. She asks
Garret if he wants her to quit. Garret tells her
he wants her to live. Jordan tells him that if she
quits she has nothing. Garret tells her she has
her friends that can help her through this. She
then tells him he can not tell anyone about this.
She opens his office door and tells him that it is her
life. She closes the door behind her and doesn't
really seem to know where to go from there. She
looks around the morgue and then goes to leave.
