Episode 22 & 23
Secrets and Lies Part 1 & 2 (05-06-02)

Brief Synopsis: While investigating the apparent suicide of a patient in a psychiatric ward, Jordan receives a gift that triggers memories and realizations about her mother's murder.

Well as far as season finales go this one left us with lots of questions.

Jordan: She was the focus of this episode.  She’s been wondering—searching for answers about her mother’s death for as long as she can remember.  She’s got memories she’s repressed, she’s got unanswered questions and she’s got everyone working against her search.  It makes you wonder what’s being hidden and who wants to keep it buried.  And most importantly—why?

Jordan can be her own worst enemy.  She wants answers and disobeys a multitude of people to find these answers and takes advantage of both Woody and Nigel.

Jordan was played by Redding.  Max set Redding up and ruined his well laid plans to get of scot-free on the deaths of his wife and children.  It’s only natural that he wants revenge and Jordan opens the door up for him.  She was so desperate to find out anything about her mother that she’s willing to help him.  She doesn’t see both sides of the coin.  She can’t—she’s too emotionally involved.  I do wonder how Redding got some of the information he gave to Jordan.  Granted her mother’s personal items could have been kept, but I wonder where the finger print came from.

I loved the glimpse into Jordan’s childhood.  It seems that Jordan’s memories of her time spent with her mother are either unhappy, frightening or sad.  Her mother must have been a hard person for Max to deal with, but obviously he loved her if he stuck with her and tried to do his best by Jordan and Emily.

Garret tells Jordan that he’s putting her on a month suspension for her own good.  He goes on to explain that Jordan cares more, gives more, even enjoys her job more than anyone he knows and that’s why she needs to take a break and step back from things for awhile.  I liked Garret’s description.  That is Jordan.  It’s what makes her so great and what gets her in trouble.  I hope she takes Garret’s advice and comes back with some of her issues worked out.

Jordan and Woody:  Woody takes a stand here.  He doesn’t jumps to do Jordan’s every request and he tells her that she’s going too far with some things.  Yet he’s supportive of her.  He watches out for her.  The reaction between the two in this episode was 100% believable and well done.  The emotions playing off between those two seems so easy and natural.  I hope something happens between the two.

Jordan and Max:  Jordan lost it with Max.  Max did something she abhors.  He planted evidence and framed a man because he felt he was guilty, not because he had the evidence to prove it.  Jordan sees everything in black and white when it comes to death—murder.

Max has also kept from Jordan the fact that her mother spent time in a mental hospital.  Jordan has suppressed memories of that time.  And as we learned a deeper fear that she’s like her mother, will turn out like her mother and go crazy.  That’s a scary thought.

Garret: So Garret’s getting himself into more problems with Maggie.  I don’t think either he or Maggie could have dealt with the prospect of a child so I’m glad she wasn’t pregnant.  I wonder if this event however will put a big kink in his relationship with Maggie.

Lily: Lily had her first good episode of the season—finally.  It only took 21 episodes to get there.  She does counseling very well—and better yet she was believable.  If Lily does come back as a counselor I hope it gives her a more focus.  I think she’ll do a wonderful job as a counselor.  It’s in her personality, her genetic makeup.  She makes people feel better.

Nigel and Bug:  Nigel helps Jordan. He drops everything and does exactly as Jordan asks.  He doesn’t even ask questions.  I hope she realizes what a great friend Nigel is to her.  She owes him big.

Bug is unable to tell Lily how he feels about her, or even ask her on a date.  That would be a start.  ‘Hey Lily.  Want to go out to eat tonight?’  Now how hard is that?  The only problem is I don’t get any vibes from Lily that she returns the affection.  She really seems to think of Bug as just a friend.

3 1/2 out of 5 Dead Bodies.  It was an interesting episode that dealt mainly with Jordan and the mystery behind her mother’s death.  Though we learned a lot about her mother, we really didn’t get any answers and the question of who killed Emily still haunts Jordan (and us).
