Peter’s parents were Czechoslovakian.
(straight off the boat Czech—as he describes it) They got
divorce when Peter was young. His mother remarried and he
took his step-father’s last name. He didn’t learn English
until he was in kindergarten
He’s not at the morgue by choice.
Lapses in work ethic make this job his last chance in his
chosen profession. He used drugs and was caught. Garret
was the last person who was willing to take a chance with
him. Garret gave him a hard time in the beginning, but came
to respect Peter. Peter always knew when Garret wasn’t
happy with him because Garret would revert to calling Peter
‘Dr. Winslow’. They eventually work out their issues.
Peter still managed to exasperate Garret sometimes though.
Peter went to medical school to prove
to his father that he wasn’t a screw up. He didn’t want to
be a doctor. He couldn’t handle the thought/pressure of
people relying on him to make the right choice/decision. He
likes his job in the morgue because he’s dealing with ‘dead’
people. He doesn’t feel that pressure he felt working in
the hospital.
Peter was once married, now divorced.
His wife used drugs (she was a troubled girl) and the
pressures of medicine and dealing with his wife drew Peter
into using drugs as well. His wife died in 2003 (end of
season 2)—she was trying to get clean. Peter felt very
much like an outcast amongst the gang. It took him a while
to fit in.
While the last episode we saw Peter in
was in season three, Nigel makes a reference to Peter
covering his shift in Thin Ice. So we can assume he's
still on the payroll...
Peter was played by the actor Ivan Sergei.
