Detective
Matt Seely is a detective for the Boston PD. He's
the son of a newspaper mogul and has a tendency not to
think before he speaks, subsequently annoying the morgue
staff and his fellow Boston PD co-workers. Seely
didn't join his father in choice of profession--where he
could have walked into a plush, easy job.
Instead he's tried to make it on his own as a cop.
He's had a few problems, but seems to be finding his own
now.
He’s
been described as an insensitive and a
‘chauvinistic pig’ to quote what Devan. He isn't
purposely mean-spirited, he just doesn't seem to know
any better. Seely is more lazy than anything else.
Seely describes himself as a city boy.
Seely has shown an interest in
Lily. He’s
been trying to win her affection. Every time he takes a
step forward though he does something to ruin it and
ends up two steps backwards. Garret doesn’t think Seely
is good enough for Lily and he’s been stepping in and
making it more difficult for Seely to pursue a
relationship with her.
In season
5 Seely has moved on from his pursuits of Lily. He
realizes that Lily is taken and he doesn't have a shot.
Seely has some shinning moments in season 5, the main
one sticking up for Bug when Garret gets on Bug's case.
There might be some hope yet for the arrogant detective.
Matt was played by
the actor David Monahan.
