Episode 51
Second Chances (03-28-04)

Brief Synopsis: Woody and Devan must re-determine the identity of a dead child; Macy and Jordan try to decide if a death from a fall down a flight of stairs was actually murder.

Devan: Pushy, driven and sometimes intolerable…that’s how Woody described Devan (yes I know it’s in a future episode, but I’m pulling the quote in here because it describes Devan perfectly).  I don’t think Devan’s ever taken ‘no’ for an answer—even when she’s been flat out told no.  She’s like Jordan in that way.  Devan has a one track mind—her way.  It’s not that she wouldn’t be willing to consider other opinions; it just never occurs to her that their opinion might differ from hers.

Devan adds a great spark to the cast.  She’s gun-ho and has more energy than ten normal people.  I’m enjoying the fun she’s added to the show.

Woody and Devan: Go Woody!  He gives it back—at least as much as he takes.  Devan tries to ride all over him, but he doesn’t let her.   They worked well together.  Woody’s a softy too.  Why else would he spend the time helping Devan when he’s got—I think it was—19 active cases waiting for him.

Don’t hate me for say this!!!  But…well…  They have a great chemistry together.   I’m a Jordan-Woody die hard, but Devan and Woody were so much fun together.  I want to see more of them together.  Maybe a date or two would get Jordan’s head screw on straight and she’d realize what a catch Woody is.

Nigel: “Pushover”  -  He said it himself!  Nigel needs to practice saying no.  Then again, Nigel wouldn’t be Nigel if he wasn’t always helping everyone.  It one of the things I love most about him.  He’s insanely smart (in a different way from Bug—who is brilliant) and he’s kind hearted down to toes.  He constantly drops everything for Jordan.  He’s always covering for her.  And now with Devan, he’s going the extra mile to help her—even when he’s so busy he’s got cases piling up on him.  Nigel’s one of those guys you’re proud to call your friend.  He’s the type friend everyone wants.

Devan really took control over Nigel.  It was humorous how easy she was able to rail road him.  She had a much tougher time with Woody.  Woody gives it right back.

Garret and Walcott: Are they or aren’t they?  Every now and then Walcott has a ‘like me’ moment the rest of the time I’m wondering what Garret sees in her.  I wonder why they even try.  Walcott described their relationship as ‘quicksand’.  Now to me that’s not exactly encouraging.  Then again maybe for those two—both broody and hardheaded personalities—it’s how they like it.  My opinion is it’s not going to work, but hey stranger things have happened.

Garret and Jordan: The two of them have such a chemistry—friend related.  Jordan teased Garret every opportunity she got.  Of course Garret asked for it—stepping in and taking over her case.  Jordan- “That would require me to show some initiative.  I can do that.”  Garret- “You’re having great fun.”

So I’ve already said Nigel and Woody are softies.  I have to add Garret to the list.  He is the boss and he’s much better at saying no, but he lets Jordan get away with murder.   A reoccurring pattern in this episode—the guys being softies—but they’re such sweethearts.

3 1/2 out of 5 Dead Bodies.  Good episode, lots of great conversation!
