Lara's
Review - Road Kill
I
loved this episode, and it will definitely have a
permanent place among my favorites.
There were a number of reasons why I loved it, but
perhaps the foremost is that the entire cast was working
on one case, they each had a role to play and they got
to interact with each other, something that usually
doesn’t happen when there is more than one storyline.
The only person missing was Lily, which is always sad as
she brings a compassion and softness to the morgue.
I loved this episode because it brought together great
acting and brilliant production. Road Kill presented us
with one of Crossing Jordan’s all time memorable
villains in Ryan Kessler. The character was really well
written; even though Kessler is a cold blooded murderer
you feel empathy for her and almost feel sorry for her
situation, Alicia Coppola did a fantastic job at
portraying her on screen, and certainly managed to scare
me sufficiently enough to make me check under my bed
before I went to sleep.
The main cast was on fire in this episode. Part of what
makes television different from theatre is that you can
act with your eyes on television. Between Woody and
Jordan, it was all in the eyes! It was great to see
Jordan and Woody together again, even if there is still
tension between the two, particularly when it comes to
JD. Woody is obviously jealous of JD, but to his credit
he is staying relatively mature about the situation. At
the moment there is a nice truce between the two
characters, I like it, and it will certainly make future
episodes more interesting, because all issues do
eventually come to ahead and I can’t wait to see it.
Between JD and Jordan, do I think the end is nigh? I am
not sure, a major crack has begun to appear, and trust
is something Jordan has always had a problem with, the
fact that JD has this problem as well will make their
relationship interesting, if there is no trust can the
relationship succeed? I loved that Kessler pointed out
Jordan’s issues with intimacy, maybe this realization
will drive Jordan to work on these issues with JD, we
will see.
The comic relief courtesy of Bug and Nigel is always
good to have, and when they get to work together, fun
will always ensue.
It is in episodes when the cast work together on one
case that the camaraderie that exists between the actors
off set is transferred onto screen and it always good to
see this chemistry.
I love watching television for the film making process;
it is always something that has fascinated me and I love
it when it just works. Road Kill was a perfect example
of great film making. The angles of the camera told the
story, the transitions between the scenes were fluid and
blended into each other with ease, and as usual, we can
always rely on Crossing Jordan having a great
soundtrack. Roxann Dawson did a great job at directing
this episode; she knew the characters and was really
able to tell not only the main story, but the
interpersonal story as well.
This was an episode where everything worked, classic
Crossing Jordan, certainly one of the best this season,
if not so far.
