Episode 35
Perfect Storm (01-27-03)
Brief Synopsis: In the grips of a
blizzard, Jordan and Elaine are quarantined when the morgue' s newest recruit,
Dr. Winslow collapses in a seizure after exposing a black fluid during an
autopsy. However, the discovery of a dead security guard confirms Garret’s fears
that a second unknown toxin is spreading through the building, leaving them
trapped in a blackout with an airborne killer.
Should I have seen this coming?
Bringing in a new character? A supposedly deadly virus (which really turned out
to be e-coli). How could someone not die? There always has to be tragedies.
Okay…so I was naïve and believed they wouldn’t really kill one of the
regulars. Shame on me.
Peter better grow on me to make Elaine’s
death seem worth it (I know no one liked Elaine, but she was that thorn in
everyone’s side that made things interesting. And she was starting to
develop and get some depth.) Right now Peter’s on the bottom of my totem pole.
And I much rather have seen him kick the bucket. That said…
There’s a major blizzard outside, half
the staff has been told to not bother coming in, the building’s basically
cleared out and then the power goes… The first body drops (Peter). Thinking
it’s some kind of exposure to some black fluid that comes out of the man their
autopsying, they quarantine the lab. Then the second body is found in the
elevator. Clue #1 it ain’t the dead body in the morgue that’s the cause of
this. Clue #2 Dead rat…hum…rats are notorious for eating anything they can get
into.
Side note: Loved the autopsy of the
rat. How cool was that?
Anyway, we collect the contents of the
rat’s stomach (who’d have though it would hold that much??) We autopsy the dead
guard. Clue #3 Little brown chucks. Umm…I think someone’s been eating some bad
food (a couple someones).
Garret drops (now I’m a little
worried). Our gang goes about trying to find the source/cause of the outbreak.
What does a rat, security guard, Peter and Garret all have in common?
The storm is still raging outside, still
no power, Jordan’s starting to feel helpless. She goes to the roof and sets up
guides for the helicopter, even though we don’t know if it’s even going to make
it. Things seem to go from bad to worse when we find Elaine dead. Wham! No
warning—nothing. Peter struggles in trying to tell them something. They rush
to the morgue to find Elaine dead. It left me depressed and angry. Maybe I
wanted some forewarning…
Just in time to save the rest of the
staff the emergency help arrives and the others live to see another day.
The ending scene was wonderfully
done—heart wrenching. Jordan, for as much as she didn’t like Elaine, cared for
her and didn’t wish her death upon her. You don’t see Jordan cry often—it was a
sad, heartfelt scene.
Didn’t you love the snow! I can’t
imagine living without my gorgeous snow – with its headaches and all. I’m
definitely a New England girl.
A side note the song This Woman’s Work
by Kate Bush was beautiful—the scene where the music played and Jordan watched
each of her colleagues was heart wrenching. It was a touching scene to watch.
Not a word was said but it was probably the most powerful moment of the entire
episode.
5 out of 5 Dead Bodies. I keep asking
myself why I’m rating this episode so high since I’m so upset with them killing
Elaine, but it was a tension filled, emotionally gripping episode. So even
though I wasn’t happy with the outcome I can’t fault the whole episode—just
Peter. I really did love this episode.
