Death Toll (03-12-06)

Play by Play Synopsis:

Teaser: Lily and Jordan walking down a Boston Street. Lily tells Jordan she needs to listen to a message Jeffery left her. She goes on about how great and sweet he is. Jordan listens not sure how to respond. Jordan’s phone rings. She tells Lily she’ll catch her later—she has to go. Lily sees Jeffery across the street with another woman.

Woody in woods at crime scene. Jordan shows up. There’s a body covered with stones. Person was recently killed. They uncover the body. It’s a female. She’s wearing a cross necklace. The officer (Peterson) taking pictures pauses. He knows her. It’s Isabelle Haley.

Nigel says she wasn’t killed there. She had to have bled quite a bit before she died. Peterson says they went to the same church, says she was different from everyone…she was a living saint. Peterson says she could perform miracles…she could raise the death.

Act One: Morgue: Jordan and Garret are going over body. Jordan explains how she raised a dead child. Garret is skeptical and doesn’t believe the story. Woody comes in he can’t find anything on Isabelle. There’s no information. Nigel comes in, adds his two cents. Someone informs them the boy ‘who she rose from the dead’ is there and wants to talk to them.

Jordan is listening to him explain how he saw this light and how thought he was dying and then he came back and Isabelle was there holding him. He says he doesn’t know where her gift came from or how she did it. He says he doesn’t know anything about why someone would killer her. He does know where she lived. He gives it to Woody.

At an apartment: Lu is there and Bug meets up with her. There is a dead body handing outside the apartment—looks like he was a window cleaner who fell and got caught in the ropes of the scaffolding he was on..

Morgue: Lily comes in. Bug is explaining who the man was—Sheldon Fuller. He’s robbed people. Jeffery comes in. Says Sheldon was on the up and straight. Lily is giving him the cold shoulder. She makes a snarky remark and leaves. Jeffery wants to know what that was about. Bug and Lu give him a look…they don’t know. But they tell him to go after her.

Jeffery goes after Lily. She pushes Jeffery into the wall. Lily wants to know why she lied. He says he didn’t tell her because then she’d want to meet her and she wouldn’t approve cause she’s not Jewish.

Nigel is talking to Jordan. Woody comes in. Knows where Isabelle lived and is going to her place. He stops her. Woody wants to know why she’s being this way—all professional. Woody says he wants it to be like it was. He says he’s sorry about him and Lu. She says it’s fine. Woody says it doesn’t’ seem right. Lu says it she should be upset. Jordan just rolls her eyes and says she’ll meet him at Isabelle’s appartment.

Morgue Lobby: Sheldon’s daughter shows up. Bug meets up with her. She says she hadn’t talked to her father in 8 years. She cut him out of his life. She couldn’t take his charming lies. She tells Bug about her father. Bug says her father’s been on the straight and narrow for a couple of years. The daughter says it’s really sweet of Bug to think the best of him but some people don’t change.

Nigel and Jordan are talking about science verses mystery. Arrive at apartment Isabelle’s door is open. Someone is in there searching. The man turns around and it’s a priest. They get his identification. Jordan looks at the man’s passport. It’s from the Vatican.

Act Two: Father Edward Klaussner—a postulator (investigates miracles and saints.) He explains how he had a talk with her last night. He left her at the church. He says she wanted him to prove she was an ordinary person.

At church: Going over it. They find blood there. They suspect the Priest. Nigel says it’s all coming together now. Spouts of spiel about how the Catholic Church planned this to get recognition to put it back in the good graces of society…

They go over theories why it could be him or not.

Morgue: Lu comes in. Wants cause of death. Bug tells her it was a heart attack. Lu’s happy, it means her case is closed, but she stops cause she picks up on the longing tone in Bug’s voice. Bug says he wanted it to turn out differently for the daughter. Lu responds with “how good looking was she?” She picks up on Bug’s interest in the daughter.

Bug notices something in the pictures Lu handed him from the apartment the man was trying to break in to. It’s the baseball that her father had signed by a player when she was young and then sold when times got tough. He realizes that her father was trying to buy it back for her.

Morgue: Jordan determines that Isabelle’s head injury occurred several hours before she died. She suffocated. She was still alive when she was buried. Nigel comes in. Isabelle Haley never existed.

Lily is with a man. He’s looking at a young girl, dead. He says God sucks. He explains how her mother died when she was two. And he says he failed. He says she suffered and died. Lily says it’s not his failure. Lily offers to listen. He (O’Rielly) gets frustrated. He says she can’t help her. He leaves mad.

Garret comes in. He wants to know what’s up. Lily explains how she says the same thing to people day in and day out and it doesn’t help…Garret tells her to take a few days off. Jeffery comes in. He asks Lily if she’ll have lunch with her mother and him tomorrow.

Bug is with Daughter. He shows her the photo and what her father was trying to do. She explains how her father got the baseball player’s signature. Bug says maybe the guy will sell it back to her. He’s says ‘we’ can ask.

Morgue: Nigel explains all the research he’s done. There’s no reference of her. Nigel is doing a search people based on description from some data base. Jordan recognizes one of the pictures. Isabelle is actually Teresa Donavan, from Seattle. She’s wanted for murder.

Act Three: Bug and daughter at the man’s house. He/owner of ball, shows them the ball. He says he’ll give it back to them for $5000. He paid $150. Bug tries to explain how the ball is the last connection to her father. He tries to sway the man. Instead the man ups the price to 10 grand.

Lunch: Jeffery’s mom asks where Lily is from. She’s ‘grilling’ her. She’s making both Jeffery and Lily uncomfortable. (Elaine—Jeffrey’s mom’s name) Lily makes a comment: “do you object to my dating him”…Elaine interrupts. She hopes things aren’t getting serious. Cause Lily just isn’t right for Jeffery. Lily says thinks that’s Jeffery’s decision. Jeffery just sits there frozen not backing Lily up.

Morgue: Nigel explains how he figured out how the boy didn’t died. The boy is behind Nigel as he explains what happened.

Morgue: Lu is in hall. Jordan calls out to her. She explains how she doesn’t have a problem with them (Woody and Lu dating). Lu tries to explain how it’s not healthy to keep emotions inside. Jordan says no problem. Goes and kisses Woody (who is behind her) then kisses Lu. Smiles at them and says ‘No problem”. Walks off leaving both Lu and Woody stunned.

Jordan in morgue with Nigel talking about his theories. Woody comes in. He thinks he knows who a good suspect is. The couple she killed had a son. He’s 20 now and in Boston. Think he’s a better suspect.

Act Four: Woody is talking to the son. He says he didn’t kill her. He says he saw this article. He came to see if it was her. He says he told her he knew who she was. He says she explained her story and said she would turn herself in. He believed her. Woody doesn’t believe him. Jordan asks for a DNA same. He lets her.

At church: Woody and Jordan are trying to figure out what happened. Playing through the events of the night. He doesn’t believe it’s the priest. He thinks it’s Steven Reynolds. Jordan doesn’t think so.

They check out the confessional. There’s a tissue there. Woody says anyone could have left it.

Bug in morgue: He’s going over objects the guy (owner of the baseball) is selling on line. He notices something.

Back at Baseball Guy’s Place: The guy does a lot of online selling. He’s racked up a lot of complaints. The guy does ‘bad business’. Bug wants to know if he’s ever been involved in a investigation…it can get ugly. The guy isn’t too happy with Bug. Bug says the guy is lucky he’s not greedy. All he wants is the baseball.

Morgue: They’re going over the tissue. The DNA sample is female. It matches a ‘body’ at the morgue.

Act Five: It’s the little girl who’s father she was trying to console.

The father is in the interrogation room. He says she could have helped the girl but she wouldn’t. He explains that all she said was she’ll pray from her. That wasn’t enough. He says he went to the church to light a candle. He says he heard someone coming so he closed himself in the confessional. He waited until she was alone and confronted her. He lost it. He didn’t mean to kill her.

Woody says he didn’t. It wasn’t the blow that killed her. He buried her alive. Man is crushed.

Morgue: Lily goes into Garret’s office. She doesn’t think it’s that she’s a touched burned out. It’s that she doesn’t like her job anymore. She says she’s quitting. She can’t do this anymore. She’ll give him time to find a replacement.

He asks what her plans are. She says she doesn’t know. It’s not just the job. She loves everyone here, but it’s not enough.

Garret wants to know if it’s about the ADA? She doesn’t know. Could be. She says things are getting serious. She doesn’t know if he’s the one. Garret asks how she feels when she’s with him. She says great, but not lately. Most of the time she does. Garret asks how she feels when she’s not with him. Does she love him?

Office: Bug gives the baseball to the daughter. She wants to know if ‘they’ always go the extra miles. She starts to ask Bug out. He says yes before she can finish. Jeffery comes through the door and carrying huge flower arrangement. Bug says “How bad did you screw up?” Jeffery responds big time.

Jeffery goes to Lily and tells her he had it out with his mom. And he tells Lily that he loves her. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Will she marry him? She turns away from him. Then (after a pause) says yes. Yes she’ll marry him. They kiss.

Bug and daughter watching from window. Daughter says seems like the flowers work. Bug says yeah. Come on I’ll walk you out.

Precinct: Jordan says night. Woody says I’m glad you’re okay with me and Lu. Woody says he wish they…well they hadn’t grown apart. She says that she’s just grown up a lot in the last year and that…Woody responds I haven’t? Jordan doesn’t/can’t respond to Woody and just turns around and walks out of the precinct.
