Murder in the Rue Morgue (01-09-05)
Brief Synopsis: When a crazed gunman opens fire
in the morgue, killing a seemingly innocent bystander,
Jordan and Woody search for clues to the apparently
random homicide, but the killing spree continues.
The opening scene was hilarious. Woody
should know better. Know better than to give up his
coffee no matter what Jordan says! The gory gruesome
and false story was coming as soon as a person walked in
that elevator. It wouldn’t have matter what Jordan
said. Gotta give her points for getting a free coffee
out of Woody.
From there things got dark and ugly very
quickly. It’s hard to stomach the thought of a child
being abducted and raped…but for that child to be held
against her will and repeatedly forced to perform sexual
acts is horrifying. Even worse is that there’s a ‘want’
for children for this situation. Our world is truly
messed up.
Jordan:
Couple points on Jordan. Jordan and her father—she
hasn’t heard from her Dad since he left. He present (a
very unimaginative present by the way) was sent back to
her. She doesn’t know what to do. She’s beginning to
think that there’s nothing she can do. Her dad
obviously doesn’t want to be found. It’s a little
unbelievable. It’s been just her and her father since
Jordan was ten. Granted it hasn’t been an easy
relationship. Jordan pushes her father’s buttons quite
often, but they love each other.
Jordan breaks down and calls the PI. I
think she realizes how much time she’s missing that she
could be spending with her father. It would be nice to
see him at least appear, have them reconcile and then he
can go his way, but I think they’d at least keep in
contact if he returned and they could hash a few things
out.
Flora and Jordan—Jordan’s caring. You
can’t ever accuse her of not caring. She dealt
beautifully with Flora.
Daisy Cavanaugh. Cute. The child
molestation hits Jordan (it hits the entire staff)
hard. Jordan (and Lily) does everything she can to
reassure Flora that she’s done nothing wrong, that no
one is going to hurt her. It’s heartbreaking Flora’s
reaction to Woody and her comments (horrifying us, but
seemed too natural a response for her.) Woody is just
as horrified at Flora’s reaction to him. He’s not use
to that, despite all his years on the job.
Flora thinks she’s ‘dirty’. My heart
went out to her and every other child those criminals
held captive. All those emotions of inadequacy, of
thinking she’s not wanted, or her general fear of
men—she’s going to have a tough time of getting past
this.
Woody:
Woody interrogating the guy in the hospital bed was
great.
Woody asks Flora to do something – she
asks if she has to take her closes off—Woody backs off.
The poor girl.
Lily:
Lily really shaken up over shooting. Seely was
surprisingly sweet (oh he had some of his moments).
Even Jordan remarked on Seely’s ‘nicer’ side showing
through—‘What is with the Mr. Do-gooder routine?’ I
wasn’t expecting the ‘date’ (if you call going for
coffee a date) at the end. I’m enjoying the ride at the
moment, so I’ll sit back and continue to see where this
heads.
Side note: When the brother visited the
morgue alarm bells went off. Keys…get her house in
order? Hello she’s been dead for only a few hours. Who
even thinks about that when someone’s just died? Easy
to pick the villain in this one.
One last note: The father of LeAnn was
looking for blood. A vigilante. As wrong as it was for
him to go on his shooting spree, I kind of second the
words Jordan said when she said he was doing the world a
favor.
Loved Nigel’s tree lovers guide to New
England.
3 out of 5 Dead Bodies. A tough topic,
that they did a pretty good job with.
