Name:

Dr. Garret Macy
Job: Chief Medical Examiner
Love Interest: Things have cooled off with Walcott…or have they?

Quest: Keep his temper in check even when Jordan pushes him to the limit

Need to Know: He’s a fair boss.  Has a weak spot when it comes to Jordan—lets her get away with murder (okay…everything but murder)

Dr. Macy is the Chief Medical Examiner.  He’s a complex man who still manages to maintain a reasonable degree of normalcy.  Cool, composed always in control, Garret can sometimes come across as a bit uncaring, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.  He has a soft spot for Jordan.  And though he tries to play by the rules, he’s constantly bending them to serve a higher purpose (typically Jordan’s doing).   He believes there’s always more to learn.  Everyone should always try to continue to improve themselves.  Garret likes to write poetry and listen to/play jazz music.

Garret is divorced and has a daughter Abby (who’s currently in college).  He wants to be a better father to her than his own father was with him.  Dr. Stiles (shrink to the morgue’s staff in Boston) once commented that Garret had a lot of ‘no trespassing’ signs in there (referring to Garret’s head).  His response is “Icy mother, depressed father, you connect the dots however you like.”  He hasn’t had the easiest or happiest life.  His mother died of Alzheimer Disease in 2001.  He practically grew up without a father.  Harry (his father) was always on the road rarely home and at one point he just didn’t come back.  He’s found a family with the staff of the Boston morgue however.

Garret helped get Jordan back on track—turn her life around—after a near-fatal drug overdose.

Garret always expects the best of people and is constantly disappointed.  As he once said—he puts people on pedestals and they eventually fall off (as they’re bond to do) and disappoint him.   Garret admits it’s his blind spot.

Garret and the DA, Rene Walcott, had/have a ‘thing’ going.  No one is quite sure what the status of their relationship is.  The relationship started under stressful circumstances when they were both down in North Carolina reviewing a death penalty case gone wrong.  Rene supposedly hooked up with her ex-husband in 2004 and became pregnant (she claims it’s her ex’s child…but believing everything Rene says isn’t always the best idea.)  There are still sparks flying whenever Garret and Rene are in the same room, but it seems things have cooled down between them.

Garret is allergic to strawberries and peanuts.

He was a comic book nut when he was a kid—a big collector.  Happiest moment with his father was when he bought him a collector’s comic book.

Garret was drafted at the age of 21 (for Vietnam) His draft number was 13.  His best friend was also drafted and was killed in Vietnam.  Garret declared pre-med and got deferred.  He still feels guilty over it.

Miguel Ferrer (as Dr. Garret Macy)

Birth date and Place:  Born February 7, 1955 in Santa Monica, CA.

Family: Ferrer has two sons and currently resides in Los AngelesHe is the son of movie star Jose Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney – Ferrer initially began carving his career path as a studio musician (his credits include playing drums on Keith Moon's Two Sides of the Moon).

Facts: Miguel is 6’-1”.

In his spare time, Ferrer loves to play golf and ski and every year helps organize a golf tournament fundraiser for the UCLA Children's Hospital. He also still finds time to play club dates with Mumy. Their band, the Jenerators, has released two CDs.

Fimography:

In contrast, Ferrer's distinctive on-screen presence has often led him to be cast in somewhat offbeat character roles. He first attracted audience attention with a breakout performance in Robocop. He won critical acclaim for his portrayal of an FBI forensic expert – very different from Garret Macy – in David Lynch's cult hit TV series Twin Peaks. In 2000, he delivered a standout big-screen performance as a drug dealer-turned-reluctant-informer in Steven Soderbergh's Oscar-winning film Traffic.

Band mate Billy Mumy (Will Robinson on the classic Lost in Space) cast him in his first role in the television series Sunshine. It wasn't much of a stretch – Ferrer played a drummer – but Mumy had to talk him into doing it.

Since then, Ferrer has starred on the big screen in the hardball detective comedy Where's Marlowe? and lent his voice to Disney's Mulan. Other film credits include John Badham's Another Stakeout, Tony Scott's Revenge, Stephen King's The Night Flier, The Harvest and Blank Check. On television, he has appeared in the Emmy Award-winning miniseries Stephen King's The Stand, and Drug Wars: The Camarena Story, and starred in the NBC comedy series Lateline.

Last summer, Ferrer made his New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway production of The Exonerated, directed by Bob Balaban. He also recently completed production on the independent feature Silver City, written and directed by John Sayles. In the film, Ferrer portrays right-wing talk show maniac, co-starring with Darryl Hannah, Richard Dreyfuss, Chris Cooper, and Maria Bellow. His next project is Jonathan Demme's remake of The Manchurian Candidate, in which Ferrer will play an army major who challenges the lead character, portrayed by Denzel Washington.
