Episode 89
Loves Me Not (01-08-06)
Brief Synopsis:
A snowstorm traps Woody and Jordan in a haunted bed-and-breakfast, where they
investigate the mysterious murder of one of its guests.
What shocked and
surprised me the MOST in this episode happened about a 3
minutes into the show. J.D. says 'I love you'
to Jordan. Everything else I was expecting (to
some extent) - THAT I was not.
After getting over
the shock of 'I love you' I realized it bugged me big
time. Not that he said it. It was how and
where he said it. I'm assuming that this is the
first time he said it, from the rather blank, somewhat
surprised look on Jordan's face. When you tell
someone you love them for the first time it's not
usually in the work place in front of an audience --
that audience being your girlfriend's ex-something.
To me it was more a way for J.D. to lay claim to Jordan
and make sure Woody understood it. Though, Jordan
not responding had to be more telling for Woody than
anything. As much as I feel J.D. does love Jordan,
I also feel like it was a strategic move in some game he
thinks he's playing to win Jordan.
Jordan and JD:
So we start the episode off with J.D. all serious saying
he needed to talk to Jordan. And she responds much
lighter that she needs to talk to him too. Two
different agendas? I think (after all that
happened in the episode) J.D.'s 'talk' would have been a
proposal. I think Jordan's 'talk' would have been
a 'things are moving too fast lets slow down' type talk.
This puts those two
on totally different pages, which can only spell heart
break--more so for J.D. than Jordan it seems.
I have to think
there is some reason, some purpose behind J.D. proposing
because they've been dating for all of a couple months.
And yes you can say that some people KNOW right away if
the person is for them. We can't use that argument
here because J.D. was questioning his own feelings.
That is what Nigel and his conversations were all about.
Granted he says he 'thought about it' and he wants her
in his life, but if he was 100% sure he wouldn't have
had to think about it or ask Nigel about it. Hence
I think J.D. has some motive behind it, some definite
deep feelings, but also some ulterior motive (whether
intentional or unintentional).
I wonder (after the
end of this ep) if he'll even end up asking Jordan,
especially if he finds out what happened between Jordan
and Woody. J.D. isn't a bad guy. While I'm
not fond of him and Jordan, as a character he has his
merits. I did feel bad for him in this episode,
because we know Jordan and I can't see anything but
heartache coming out of this. At the same time I
felt J.D. was also playing a game.
Jordan and Woody:
Well all W-J shippers, your wish has come true. I
have to say my favorite moment for those two was the
talk they had the first night they were sharing the bed
together and they're talking about J.D. Woody
tells Jordan "I
think you already know what you want
Jordan. You always
know deep down." (paraphrasing) To me it was Woody,
in a subtle way, laying his feelings on the table and
challenging Jordan to do the same (if only in her own
mind). And yes the end was fun. It's been
over two years since we've seen those two kiss...the
chemistry is still there.
I was surprised
that they slept together--I didn't think they'd go there
yet:
As happy as I was to
see them together, Jordan cheated on J.D. I can't
quite condone that (and I think it's going to come back
to haunt her one way or another). Even though it seemed it
happened in the heat of the moment and despite the fact
that you can see Jordan doesn't have those 'deep'
feeling for J.D--it still doesn't make it okay. If you're with someone, even if
you're going to end it, that doesn't mean you can go
sleep with someone else. I'm sorry, but it's
wrong. (It doesn't sit well with me at all).
Despite my 'moral'
objection...I'm happy to see some progress in Jordan and
Woody's relationship, that no doubt will be offset by
some sort of set back. But what's good is the two
of them on FRIEND terms again. They have a working
chemistry I love, and the past couple cases have been
fun to watch.
There's probably going to be some
bumpy road traveled ahead for Jordan and Woody. It's how they
travel it, not so much where they end up, that's the
important thing. Because how you travel it will
shape where you end up. So here's to hoping the
path they travel, bumpy as it may be, ends up on flat
ground.
Nigel: I
loved Nigel. If I could chose, I'd ask for a
friend like him. (not saying I don't have great
friends!) Nigel is the only one not involved in the
triangle between Woody, Jordan and J.D. and I think he
sees things the clearest. Before Woody came along
Nigel was there. He's always had a soft spot for
Jordan. He's always been out to please, help, save
her. If Jordan had ever given Nigel the slightest
encouragement (romantically) I think he would have been
wooing her right off her feet long ago.
He's watched and
been through (to some extend) all the highs, lows and
inbetweens Jordan and Woody have had. He's given
advice, he's been supportive and understanding.
And I think he is the only one who sees Jordan as
exactly how she is. His vision isn't clouded by
feelings like Woody and J.D. So when he was
talking with J.D. I think he knew what the likely
outcome will be. He has a perspective on the whole
situation the others lack.
I thought his chats
with J.D. were insightful and helpful. Despite
knowing Jordan as he does, he instead encouraged J.D. to
come to his own conclusions because those where the ones
that mattered most.
"If
you can’t image your life without that someone in it,
then you’ll know."
Lily and Bug and
Jeffery: I love Bug. I like Jeffery.
They both need to grow a backbone. Bug's pined
over Lily for five years. Jeffery can't even
muster up the courage to ask Lily out to dinner.
They both annoyed me! (You see why I like Seely
with Lily so much better).
Jeffery is
straight-laced. He follows the law to the letter
and when Lily gets mad at him for that he can't quite
understand. He doesn't grasp the 'care' she has
for every person she counsels, especially the ones most
in need of help. This might come from just not
knowing her that well yet. He rectifies the
situation though at the end. And it's obvious Lily
feels 'something' for Jeffery, so he has that going for
him.
Poor Bug. I
just don't see Bug having a happy ending in this
triangle. Lily already turned him down once (three
years ago). She made it quite clear she only saw
him as a dear friend. Sometimes feelings do change,
but there's been no indication of such by Lily.
And while Bug loves her, I just don't think she feels
that way about him or ever will. I think Seely has
a better chance with Lily than Bug does.
Raise your hand if
you were surprised by the kiss Lily gave Jeffery (wasn't
his face just adorable after she kissed him?). On
the same note, Bug's face was crushed. And Lily
KNEW it. She glances back. She has a
conscious and she knew she was hurting Bug. This
action again reinforced my belief that Lily feels
nothing more than great friendship for Bug.
Seely: I have
to mention him. First I'm a fan of him. Yes
he's rude, insensitive and arrogant, but then he goes
and has a moment and he melts my heart. And I love
the interest he has in Lily. He stayed out of the
conflict on this case and I wonder if he knows what's
going on between Lily, Jeffery, and Bug.
Personally I think he and Lily are MUCH more compatible
than either Bug or Jeffery.
The cases: The
episode's weak spot were the cases. However since
the focus of the story lines were more on the
interactions between our two threesomes, it was easy to
put the inconsistencies and easy solutions behind you.
And for a script having to be conceived and written in
less than two weeks I can't complain.
And call me slow but
it didn't dawn on me that Francis was the key to
everything until the cyanide incident. Blame it on
being caught up in the Jordan-Woody drama.
No Garret in this
episode.
With all that said,
and after giving the episode a few days to sink in...I feel
lost--it's this weird floating feeling. The more I
think about it the more 'lost' I feel. I liked the
episode, but I was also left with
this feeling of disappointment. I can't quite
grasp what it was. Once I got over the WOW factor
there was something unsettling about the whole episode
that just leaves me slightly 'underwhelmed'.
Well this episode
had a little bit of everything. Mystery, crime, dead bodies,
comedy, and some love, everything we love about CJ.
And because Woody and Jordan have finally gotten
somewhere after four years - Three and a
half
out of five dead bodies (despite the unsettling feeling
it left me with).
