Hooked Up: Matt’s working on it.  His charm hasn’t yet won Lily over.

Dates: They had a coffee date in Murder in the Rue Morgue—no dates since then that we know of.

What Lily see in Matt: Good question!  Seely’s been described on more than one occasion (by Lily herself) as an insensitive, obnoxious pig…

The Lily-Matt History

The first episode where we start to see some chemistry between Lily and Matt is in Blue Moon.  Matt comes in with a dead body that’s been shot.  He has the suspect and the murder weapon.  He just needs to match the bullet in the dead man to the gun.  When they open the body way a cat pops out and low and behold the cat’s eaten the bullet.  Matt is an insensitive jerk.  He wants to cut the cat open but Lily refuses to let him.  Then they lose the cat.  Matt and Lily, while looking for the cat, end up spending some time together talking.  Lily learns a little about Matt and you can see she softens up towards him.

In Murder in the Rue Morgue Lily and Matt actually go out for coffee at the end of the episode.  Throughout the episode Matt hits on Lily.  Lily starts out disgusted with him (for being his insensitive self).  He starts trying to be a ‘do-gooder’ (as Jordan notices and asks Lily what it is all about—Lily just groans and shakes her head, not quite sure what to tell Jordan).  In the end Matt wins Lily over—at least long enough for her to go have a drink with him.

When we get to Gray Murders it doesn’t seem like there have been any second dates, though there is a much easier camaraderie between the two.  In this episode Matt and Lily pretend to be husband and wife to catch a killer.  Their role playing cares over to when they’re in a room with Jordan and Bug.  Jordan and Bug pick up on the easy banter between the two of them and give Lily a questioning look, but Lily leaves their silent question unanswered.

Locard’s Exchange sees Matt (in his own unique way) caring and wanting to provide comfort to Lily.  In this episode Lily’s mother gets run down and killed.  Matt tries to be there for Lily—even if he shows the ‘sensitivity of a lizard.’   Garret comes in between them though intentionally keeping Matt away from Lily.  Matt gets frustrated and finally confronts Garret on this and he says Lily can do better than him—he also tells Lily the same thing.  Matt hasn’t been around since then and Lily hasn’t mentioned him so we don’t know what affect Garret’s intervention had on this budding relationship.
