The Lily-Garret History
This was a short-lived relationship
that has had lingering effects. When the series started
Garret was completely oblivious to the fact that Lily was
practically drooling all over him and doing everything in
her power to get noticed by Garret. Jordan has to point it
out to him in the Pilot, that Lily’s got a crush on
him.
Over the next few episodes Garrets
starts to notice how Lily acts around her and realizes that
Jordan was right. He’s actually attracted to Lily but he
won’t act on it because he thinks it would be wrong since he
is her boss. In Sight Unseen after a talk with Dr.
Stiles (the shrink) he finally comes to terms with his and
Lily’s situation and asks her out on a date.
Things seem to be going well, when
Maggie starts making appearances. In Blue Christmas
Garret plans to have Christmas dinner with Lily, but ends up
going to Maggie’s (as a result of Lily canceling their plans
when she finds out that he was skipping dinner with his
daughter instead). In Acts of Mercy Garret hooks up
with his ex-wife. Lily realizes that there’s something
going on between Garret and Maggie and tells him to figure
things out then if it’s she he wants to come back to her.
Garret ends up sticking with his ex-wife.
Garret falls into old patterns and by
the beginning of the second season his ex-wife is out of the
picture again. Lily comes back to work in the morgue but
she tells Garret there won’t be anything more between them.
They’re just friends. Garret agrees, but there is still
some tension between the two through out season two.
There’s a tension between the two and
in Pandora’s Trunk Part 2. Lily accuses Garret of
being a wimp and brings up their past relationship—they hash
it out. Garret ends up kissing Lily and Rene walks in on
them (Garret at this point kind of has a relationship with
Rene). After the incident Garret and Lily clear the air and
agree once and for all that they’re just friends.
