Teaser:
Bug and Jordan are walking through the hall and Bug is
trying to convince Jordan to deal with the juvenile
probation kids they have coming to the morgue.
Jordan tells Bug that it is Kate's problem, but she is
out sick. Jordan's cell phone rings and she is
called to a scene, so Bug is left behind. Before
Jordan leaves she goes into Garrets office and closes
the door. She tells him that she went to the
doctor again and had her charts emailed to him.
She thinks it is good news because the growth in her
brain has not gotten any bigger and her symptoms are
gone. Garret, however, knows that Jordan can not
pretend everything is ok. He tells her she still
needs the surgery. Jordan says she is weighing her
options, but Garret informs her she is down to one.
Jordan thinks it is her life, her brain, and her
decision.
Bug comes into
Garrets office and informs him that the probation kids
are here and Kate is sick. Garret tells Bug he has
to handle it, but Bug really does not want to.
However, Bug does not really have a choice.
Jordan arrives at the
scene and greets Woody. He gives her a hard time
about taking so long to get there, and Jordan tells him
she spaced on which exit it was. They both joke
about it for a second and then Woody takes Jordan inside
to the crime scene. It is a woman in a bathroom
sitting against the wall with blood around her. It
appears she hit her head on the sink, but Woody says
there is so much more blood than just from the head
wound. Jordan opens the woman's jacket and they
see that the woman had been cut open. She was
pregnant. Jordan says it is a late term pregnancy
so the baby could still be alive out there somewhere.
Act
one:
Woody is on the phone with someone to make sure they are
checking all the hospitals and clinics to see if a
newborn has been brought in. Jordan comes out to
tell him that there is no ID on the woman, and that she
is wearing a wedding ring. Woody hates this
because now he has to tell a husband that his pregnant
wife is dead and that his baby has been ripped from the
womb. Jordan tells Woody that she will have an ID
soon, and that he should just tell the husband they are
doing everything they can to get the baby back to him
soon.
Garret is on the
phone with Jordan's doctor and tells him that she has
convinced herself that she has had the meningioma her
whole life and does not seem to grasp that she could die
from it. Garret knows that he just needs to keep
an eye on her.
Bug is touring the
juvenile probation kids through the morgue, and dreading
every moment of it. He is giving them facts about
homicide rates in Boston and asking them questions.
One of the kids is texting on her cell phone and gives
Bug no attention when he is talking with her. Bug
has similar problems getting through to the other kids.
Garret then comes in and takes the phone away from the
girl and takes things over from Bug.
Nigel and Jordan are
doing trace on the woman and determine that the blow to
the head was not enough to kill her right away. So
the baby was still getting oxygen up until the moment it
was cut out of her. Then the cause of death was
blood loss. They also determine that it was not a
pro doing the cutting, because there were hesitation
marks on the body. Jordan notices some drops of
blood on the woman's arm and they believe it could be
from the killer injuring themself. Jordan takes a
sample to compare against the woman's. Nigel comes
up with an ID using her fingerprint. Her name was
Carla Owens. Jordan tells Nigel to call Woody so
he can make the notification.
Woody goes to the
house to notify the husband. A woman answers the
door and he tells her he is looking for Mr. Owens,
Carla's husband. The woman tells Woody that Carla
does not have a husband, but that she is Carla's wife,
Marissa. Inside the home Woody is talking with
Marissa and explaining to her what they found, that the
baby was missing. Marissa tells Woody that Carla
used to drive to the park and so Woody gets the
information on the car. Marissa pleas with Woody
to please find the baby.
Garret is in the
crypt with the kids and shows them the body of a kid
they knew of. He continues to tell them how the
kid was killed as a lesson on how to stay alive.
Garret asks them if they see the lesson he is laying out
for them, but one of the kids just makes a joke about
it, and a few of the other kids laugh. Charlie,
the kid making the smart-ass comment asks if he can go
to the restroom.
In Garrets office,
Nigel is on Garrets computer using his email. Bug
comes in and asks him why he is using Garrets email, and
Nigel's excuse is the responses come much quicker when
the request comes directly from the chief medical
examiner. A new email arrives which is the third
one with meningioma in the subject line. Bug tells
Nigel that when he came in earlier he could tell Garret
was hiding something on his laptop. They both get
a little suspicious when they notice the emails are from
Dr. Rene Sanchez, the neurosurgeon. Nigel pretends
it is an accident, but he opens the email. It
states that after looking over the MRI the meningioma
needs to be removed immediately, but it never mentions
Jordan's name. So Bug and Nigel are left thinking
it is Garret who is sick.
Jordan is in the
conference room with Marissa. Jordan informs her
that they believe the killer left blood behind so there
is a chance they can find who did this. She also
consoles her and tells her that it is very likely that
whoever took the baby is most likely taking very good
care of it. Marissa tells Jordan that if it was a
boy his name is Anthony, and if it was a girl her name
is Claire. Jordan informs her that the baby is a
boy. Marissa then tells Jordan that she wants to
see Carla. Woody then comes into the conference
room and Marissa asks if they have found anything.
He tells her they have found nothing on the baby and
they are searching around the clock. He then asks
Marissa if he can ask her a few questions. They
all sit down and Woody starts asking Marissa about her
relationship with Carla, and basically is starting to
treat her like a suspect. Jordan does not like
this approach. Marissa then tells Jordan to
compare her DNA to the killers so they can rule her out
as a suspect.
Jordan is in the lab
doing the blood work, staring at the computer.
Woody comes in and starts talking to Jordan, but she is
still just staring into the computer...zoned out.
Woody finally gets closer to her and waves his hand and
she snaps out of it. Jordan tells him she did not
like the way he attacked Marissa because he knows what
she is going through. He agrees only if she is
innocent. Woody says he needs to treat Marissa
like any other spouse in this situation. Jordan
thinks it is more a case of an unstable woman wanting a
baby. The computer is done processing the blood
work and it turns out Marissa's DNA match that of the
killer. Jordan can not believe it. Woody
wonders that if she is the killer, where is the baby.
Act
two:
Woody is at Marissa's house arresting her and she can
not believe it. He asks her where the baby is, and
she claims that she did not kill Carla. Woody
tells her they they found her blood on Carla's body and
Marissa can not believe it.
Garret is in trace
with the kids and shows them another body. He asks
if they have questions on anything and a couple of the
kids do ask some real questions. Charlie is still
being smart about his responses though. Garret is
trying to ignore it though. They all walk into
autopsy and there is a body that has been propped up and
he is wearing Charlie's hat and sun glasses. All
the kids get a kick out of this. Garret does not
think it is funny at all and gets the body down.
He immediately begins the autopsy where two of the kids
faint. He is still trying to teach them a lesson
about how death is no joke.
Marissa is in
interrogation and Woody and Jordan are looking in.
Jordan is upset because she defended Marissa, but Woody
tells her that she put on a good act. Woody asks
her if she has finished the autopsy yet, and Jordan
tells him she has but there is nothing that helps them.
Jordan then tells Woody that she needs to speak with
Marissa. They go into the interrogation room and
ask Marissa again where the baby is. Jordan starts
asking Marissa questions and assures her that it was her
blood found on Carla's body. Marissa still denies
everything and can not believe they do not believe her.
Jordan then tells Marissa that if she lets that baby die
she is coming after her.
Back in autopsy
Garret is showing the kids how the guy died while they
analyze the gun shots in his body. Charlie
continues to be a smart-ass about everything and Garret
is starting to get sick of it. Charlie then tells
him that he thinks this is all a big waste of time, but
Garret is a smart-ass back to him and tells him that the
store he wants to rob will still be there when they are
done. All the kids now laugh at Charlie. Bug
and Nigel are observing Garret and Bug points out that
he appears to be a little cranky. Nigel says that
irritability is a symptom of meningioma. Bug makes
a subtle joke about how maybe he has had this the entire
time they have known him, but Nigel does not think it is
funny. They can't understand why Macy does not
just get the surgery if Dr. Sanchez is recommending it.
Jordan and Woody are
in the station talking with Marissa's Mom, Sister, and
Brother-in-law. It is obvious the mother did not
approve of Marissa's lifestyle. She does not even
remember Carla's name. Jordan tells them that they
need their help in convincing Marissa to tell them where
the baby is. They then tell Jordan that they are
not close with Marissa anymore since she "turned" gay.
The mother then points out that the baby is not really
even Marissa's because it is not like she contributed
any sperm to the "project." This pisses Jordan off
and she tells them that the "projects" name is Anthony.
Marissa's sister Rebecca then tells them that she found
out a few weeks ago that Carla was pregnant. So
she goes into talk with Marissa and it is obvious they
are not close. Rebecca asks Marissa to tell them
where the baby is, but Marissa holds strong in that she
does not know. Marissa then asks Rebecca to go
away. As Rebecca leaves she turns and tells
Marissa that they are all there for her even though they
do not approve. She quotes something saying "Hate
the sin, Love the sinner." Jordan and Woody are
now back to square one.
Garret is signing the
forms for the kids so they can prove they attended the
morgue. When Charlie hands Garret his form Garret
does not sign it. Charlie argues that he was there
and looked at all the crap Garret showed them.
Garret tells him that if he want's his sheet signed to
meet him at the morgue the next morning at 9am.
Charlie is really upset about this and threatens Garret.
However, Garret sticks with it and tells Charlie to be
there at 9am. Charlie enters the elevator with the
rest of the kids and is pissed.
Act
three:
Jordan is in the lab and Nigel comes in to see what she
is doing. Jordan tells him that they need to go
over every thing again to see if they missed something.
Nigel does not see the point because it is not going to
tell them what Marissa did with the baby. Jordan
asks him to just go through the evidence they collected.
Nigel then finds the blood sample they took from the
victim that was to match the killer and he finds that it
has not been processed. Jordan says that is
impossible because she matched it to Marissa's blood.
They determine that Jordan tested Marissa's blood
against itself and that is why it was a match.
Nigel can not believe Jordan made such a huge mistake.
He asks her if she was distracted, if maybe it was Dr.
Macy's sickness. Jordan then asks Nigel what he is
talking about and he tells her that him and Bug know
about Garret's meningioma. Jordan then claims she
does not know what he is talking about and hands Nigel
the blood sample and tells him they need to rerun the
test. As she is handing the sample to Nigel her
hand starts shaking, but Nigel does not notice. He
is still mad and tells her that he can not run the test
because the blood has not been refrigerated and it is
degraded. She tells him to run it anyway and then
rushes out of the room.
Jordan is at the
station telling Woody about the terrible mistake she
made. Woody is very upset with her because he
arrested a woman and put her through hell, and now he
finds out it was Jordan's mistake and that Marissa was
innocent. Jordan tells Woody over and over that
she is sorry. She then asks if they can please
stay focused on the baby, but Woody continues his
frustration with her, telling her that it has been 10
hours they have wasted because of her. He walks
out of the room leaving Jordan to feel guilty.
Charlie is waiting
for Garret at his desk and is snooping on his computer.
Garret walks in and closes the laptop. Charlie
starts right in with his attitude and Garret tells him
that he is here to see death, what he does with his life
he could care less about. Charlie goes with
Garret.
Back at the station
Woody is walking Marissa out and is apologizing again to
her. Jordan is also in the hall and tells Marissa
that it was her fault and not to blame Woody.
Marissa is obviously mad and tells Jordan that she has
been planning Carla's funeral from a jail cell, and that
her knees are raw from praying on the cement floor for
her son...the one Jordan accused her of kidnapping.
Jordan again tries to apologize, but Marissa does not
want to hear it and tells her to go and find her son.
Marissa leaves the station and Jordan looks back at
Woody. Woody does not say a word and walks away
from Jordan.
Garret and Charlie
are in with a body of a kid who was playing around at a
constuction site and fell in a hole and was killed.
Charlie makes a comment on how the kid should have
watched where he was going, and Garret just goes with
it. Garret tells Charlie he wants him to clean up
the body. Charlie does not want to do it and
Garret asks him if he is scared. Charlie tells him
he is not scared of a dead body because he knows about
death and he thinks about how he is going to die every
day. Garret tells him that maybe he should start
thinking about how he is going to live. He then
tells Charlie to clean up the body so his parents can
see him.
Woody is with a
police officer in the woods and they have found Carla's
car. There is no one inside, but there is a lot of
blood. Woody tells the officer to pop the back
trunk so they can make sure the baby is not inside.
Jordan comes into her office and gets a call from Woody
telling her they found the car. He tells her they
have not found the baby, but there is a lot of blood
inside. He gives her directions and tells her to
write them down because they do not have time for her to
get lost. Jordan shrugs off the comment from Woody
and tells him she will be there. She then thanks
him for calling her, but he continues being mean and
tells her she was not his first choice and that nobody
else was available. This obviously hurt Jordan,
and her hand holding the phone to her ear begins to
shake again. She closes the phone and holds her
hand tightly, trying to stop it from shaking.
Act
Four:
Nigel and Bug are in the lab discussing what they should
do about Garret. Bug says that since Jordan blew
Nigel off about the subject it is obviously meant to be
a secret. Nigel can not believe Garret did not
tell them. Jordan then comes in and tells them
they have found Carla's car and she grabs her kit.
Nigel corners her and tells her they want to talk to her
about Dr. Macy. Jordan tells them she is not going
to have this conversation now. Bug asks her if he
is going to have the surgery or not, and Jordan tells
them that she does not know why they think Garret is
sick, but that he is fine. They are not buying it
and Nigel asks her why she keeps covering for him, but
Jordan shouts it at them that Garret is fine and then
leaves to go meet Woody. Bug tells Nigel that he
is going to have to talk to Garret, but Nigel tells him
that they are BOTH going to go and talk to him.
Garret comes in to
check on Charlie and see how he is coming cleaning up
the body. Charlie did a good job by the looks of
things, but then Garret pulls down the sheet and it
turns out that Charlie only cleaned the boys head and
shoulders because that is all the boy's parents would
see. Garret asks him if he always does things half
ass. He then takes Charlie into another room where
there is a man who was killed in a car accident.
He again tries to teach Charlie the value of life.
This case touches Charlie and he storms out of the room,
knocking over a tray of supplies.
Jordan arrives at the
site with Carla's car and Woody makes a comment on how
at least she got there faster than yesterday.
Jordan just shows a small smile and continues walking
toward the car. Jordan goes to the passenger side
and looks inside, while Woody goes over to the drivers
side. Jordan tells Woody he had every right to
blow up at her yesterday because she made a huge
mistake. Jordan takes a sample of the blood on the
seat and says she has to take it back to the lab and run
it. She then finds a piece of paper under the seat
and it is also covered in blood. Jordan gives it
to Woody and they place it in an evidence bag so she can
run that as well.
Outside the morgue
Garret finds Charlie and tells him that he has read his
file. Charlie's Dad was killed in a car accident
when he was 10 years old. Charlie tells Garret
that just because he got a little upset over the case
does not mean anything has changed. Garret then
tells him of a boy who took the same tour and Charlie is
taking now and he ended up in the crypt 6 months later.
Garret then asks Charlie about his father, if he was
good to him. Charlie said his father was not home
much because he had to work two jobs. Garret tells
him that one of the hardest lessons everyone has to
learn is that life isn't fair. Charlie agrees and
says life sucks. Garret tells him it does not have
to suck all the time. Charlie then tells him his
father left in the middle of work to come and bail him
out, and his mother never knew why her husband left in
the middle of work. Garret asked him if he has
ever told his mother about this, and Charlie says there
is no way he would tell her because she would hate time.
Garret tells him that most parents love their children
no matter what. It still bothers his mother not
knowing why her husband was on the road that day, and
Garret tells Charlie he can fix that by telling her that
he was coming to bail him out.
In the lab Woody and
Jordan have Nigel analyzing the paper they found in the
car. After running some tests Nigel is able to
lift the blood from the paper and they are able to read
what is underneath. Most of the letters are
missing, but they determine it is a travel itinerary
from a church, and the churches name is on the top of
the bulletin. Jordan and Woody go the church and
on the banner they see the same quote that Marissa's
sister said to her at the police station; "Hate the Sin,
Love the Sinner." It turns out that Rebecca is
there at the church and Woody and Jordan question her.
Rebecca tells them that she remembers when Marissa was
born how perfect she was. Then she met Carla and
everything changed. Jordan tells her that people
love who they love and it is not wrong. Rebecca
did not agree and said "that" kind of love was a sin.
Rebecca says that she prays for the baby and that maybe
if given the chance he can stay perfect forever.
Jordan now is convinced that Rebecca has the baby and
starts going after her. Woody grabs her and holds
her back because they don't have anything on her.
Act Five:
Nigel, Jordan and Woody are back in the lab doing more
tests on the bulletin. Jordan asks Nigel if there are
any fingerprints or any other blood besides the victim
on it, but Nigel has nothing. Woody gets off the
phone and tells them that Rebecca and her husband live
only 1/2 a mile from where Carla's car was found.
Jordan is starting to feel really guilty because she
knows Rebecca could get away with this and it is her
fault. Woody then says that maybe Rebecca isn't
the one they should focus on.
In the interrogation
room at the police station, Woody and Jordan are talking
to Rebecca husband. Jordan talked with him about
everything and eventually he breaks and tells them the
truth. Jordan then asks him where the baby is and
if he is still alive. Jordan and Woody arrive at
Marissa's house and Jordan is holding the baby.
She assures Marissa that this is her son and that he is
fine.
Back at the morgue
Charlie tells Garret that he cleaned that kid again and
this time he did it right. He asks him if he would
now sign his attendance form. Garret signs his
sheet, but tells Charlie he needs to talk to his mother.
Charlie knows, but tells Garret that he still does not
like him and leaves the morgue with a smile.
Nigel and Bug track
Garret down in the hallway and ask him how he is
feeling. He says he is fine, but Bug asks him
again and Garret is confused. He stops them and
tells them that one of them needs to tell him what is
going on. Nigel confesses that he was in his email
and saw the messages and the meningioma. Garret
tells them that he does not have a meningioma, that he
was doing a consult. Nigel and Bug are relieved
and Nigel goes to give Garret a hug. Garret stops
him and says no hug and walks away. Nigel and Bug
are so happy and Garret yells at them to stay out of his
email.
At the police station
Rebecca is being charged and Jordan and Woody are in the
hall talking. Jordan then says that she needs to
get back to the morgue, but Woody stops her and
apologizes for not letting up on her and being a jerk.
Jordan says it is ok, and that she screwed up. If
he had screwed up like that she would have been pissed
at him too. Jordan then turns to leave and Woody
stops her again and asks her if she is sure she is ok.
Jordan says she is just tired and could use more sleep.
Woody then tells her she knows she can talk to him.
Jordan claims she is fine and turns and walks out the
door. Woody just watches her, still feeling
something is not quite right.
Jordan comes into
Garrets office and confesses to him that she screwed up
on her case. He tells her that short term memory
loss is part of the effect of the meningioma. He
tells her she has been seizing and not even knowing it.
He then tells her he is taking her out of the rotation.
No autopsies, no crime scenes, and no lab work.
Jordan can not believe this and asks if this is his way
of blackmailing her into having the surgery.
Garret tells her that she won't let him help her and
there is nothing he can do about it, but he is done
covering for her. He tells her she needs to deal
with this.
