Episode 111
Faith
(04-04-07)

Good, powerful, intense writing.  I like how the intensity of the case mirrored the intensity of Jordan’s situation.  Not only were we caught up in Jordan, but the case had the same power to it making the episode wonderfully dramatic and suspenseful.  I like the continuing story arc format this season so much more than last season.  Each episode has really built upon the last…its intensity growing with it.  It’s been very effective.

Two weeks in a row I’ve loved the B-plot.  Nigel and Kate have a chemistry that works so well.  The Santa Claus case managed to be serious, yet playful/humorous.  It hit a deeper level in both Kate and Nigel (fitting with the intensity of the episode) and still gave us some light moments.

Nigel=WOW.  This season Steve Valentines portrayal of Nigel has been utterly amazing.

It was a well done moment when Bug, Nigel and Woody learned Jordan was sick.  Woody seemed shell shocked—not sure he knew exactly how to deal with the entire situation.  Nigel, oh he made my heart cry with him.  Nigel and Jordan are so close.  He openly tears up.  The news hits him hard and he has a hard time dealing with it.  The scene with him and Gwen, right after he learns about Jordan was amazing.  The kid who played Gwen was adorable—the two of them together could melt anyone’s heart.  Nigel never loses faith.  He comes close with Kate…but in the end his optimism returns.  That will get him through this ordeal.

“Yes Kate, we would like to know.  Do you ever smile?”  That said, I loved Kate tonight.  She and Nigel make sparks fly when they’re in a room together.  And no, not romantic, though those are there, just sparks in general.  They are so opposite the slightest thing has them clashing—makes for entertaining scenes.

We learned a bit more about Kate tonight.  Her first marriage failed (do that mean she’s been married at least twice?  Is she still married?  If not, what happened to the second husband?).  He father was an alcoholic.  Her relationship (or lack there of) with her father has obviously shaped who she is today.

I know everyone wanted to see Woody go running up to Jordan, wrap her in a big hug and tell her he’s there for her.  I thought the moment fit the scene though.  1) I think Jordan would have completely recoiled from Woody if he’d done that.  She’s not ready for him to do that…and my bet is no matter how sincere Woody’s motives were she’d still see it as pity. 2) Jordan and Woody are still on shaky ground.  Woody’s been very careful about what he says and does around Jordan still.

If we look at the bright side—Jordan did apologize to Woody.  That in and of itself shows that she cares (even if it’s on a subconscious level at the moment) for Woody, and that she didn’t want to hurt him.  Jordan’s got pride though and she didn’t want everyone acting different around her.  Woody picked up on that.  He doesn’t argue with her, he lets her keep working.  At the end he brings her into the snowy mountains searching for the teacher—he lets her be part of the case.  He lets her feel/be useful.  He doesn’t kill her spirit (in efforts to do what’s best for her.)

Faith.  Love the title.  In the end it’s faith that has Jordan make the appointment.  Oh I’m sure being fired, not being able to do any work in the morgue, and passing out in front of everyone played a role, but her talk with the mother in my eyes is what gave Jordan the courage to take the step.

It’s nice to see that Jordan has accepted Garret as part of her family.  He really has taken over the father role for her.  What’s even nicer and more surprising is that Jordan has let him, and she’s leaned on him for support.  The ending scene was my favorite of the entire episodes.

Did anyone feel the end scene where the hostage holder was in a gun shot out with the police where it all happened off screen was a bit strange?  It left me with a funny feeling.  There was a definite break in that scene from the rest of the episode.  The whole scene from the shot out to all the kids being safe to Woody handing off the kid felt like it was on warp speed.

Side Notes:

    - The little girl who played Gwen was adorable.  The scene between her and Nigel broke my heart.
    - Easter Bunny :) Enough said!
