Episode 92
Dreamland (01-29-06)

Play by Play Synopsis:

Teaser:  Bug, Jordan, and Nigel are in the break room.  Jordan wants to know what smells and Bug inform Jordan it’s Nigel’s homemade yogurt.  Garret enters the break room. Jordan hands him a police report about his stolen stereo.  He made a report incase it showed up in a pawn shop or something.  Jordan says she didn’t know his place was broken into. Garret says not quite like that…

Garret leaves.  He’s in office.  Calls Abby gets her voice mail.  He leaves an abrupt message telling her to quit playing games and return his calls.  Then opens his desk draw, pulls out a bottle and takes a drink

Jordan and Woody in run down place of apartments.  There was a shooting, three dead bodies.  Drug related.  Jordan grabs one of the dead guy’s wallet and starts going through it, looking for idea.  She pulls out some pictures.  Pictures of Abby and the dead guy.  Jordan calls Bug and Woody over and says look at this.  It’s Abby.  They all lock shock.

Act one: Still at crime scene.  Garret arrives.  He identifies Abby’s boyfriend.  Two of the dead men are from one ‘group’ the other is a gang member (one of the group who shot Chad and his friend).  Garret explains they were staying with him then left.  Woody asks if he’s seen any of the other dead guys.  Garret thinks he’s seen one of them once.  Woody tells Garret that it looks like they were dealing heroine.  Woody wants to know if Abby is involved?  Garret gives Wood a look…

Bug calls for them from the other room.  He’s found a bullet in the wall in a closet.  There’s flesh on it, indicated a flesh wound, someone was hit.  They all worry that it was Abby was hiding in the closet.

At lab.  Nigel is running finger prints. One of the guys comes up with a huge record.

Garret gets hyper.  Jordan reassures him that they’ll find her.  Meanwhile they get the blood work back from the flesh wound on the bullet.  It’s female AB.  Abby is O negative Garret says, which means the girl shot wasn’t Abby.

Lily enters.  She tells Garret Maggie is here.  Garret goes into his office and his conversation with Maggie soon deteriorated to shouting, yelling and blaming.  Maggie tells Garret that she hasn’t had any contact from Abby.  Last she heard from her was couple months ago when she called her up wanting a credit card for emergency purposed.  Maggie gave her one, however she canceled it when the bank informed her that the card has been used to withdraw cash 4 times in one day at four different ATMs.  Maggie informs Garret that she met him – Chad.  And new he was trouble the instant she laid eyes on him, but she couldn’t tell Abby that.

Maggie goes back to blaming Garret for not keeping in touch with Abby.  Garret gets frustrated and angry and finally shots: fine I agree I’m a lousy father.  Now let’s stop arguing about it.

A lady comes into the morgue.  Lily greets her.  She is Chad’s mother.  Lily asks her questions, tries to talk with her.  Mother doesn’t really want to talk.  Just wants to get things over with.  Lily backs down and says sure.  She goes to lead her to her sons body.  Lady doesn’t go, she stands in the hall very stone face. Then she says isn’t identification done through a photograph?  Lily says please wait one moment.

Lily comes back.  There is another lady in the conference.  She is Oscar’s mom (Oscar was the gang member that died).  Lily has both ladies sit down.  Lily gets the identification over with.  The ladies look at the file. Oscar’s mom is opening-ly weeping.  Chad’s mom remains detached showing no emotion.

Nigel is in the lab doing a reconstruction of the crime scene.  Nigel explains how who was shot and why and the order they were shot in.  He concludes saying: Three are dead and three are missing.

Garret tells them to prep the bodies and wants to know if they’ve got anything on DNA of the gun that was left at the scene yet.  Garret calls Abby’s cell again.  He pleads with her to come home.

Jordan and Lily are talking.  Jordan tells Lily that Garret’s not doing so good.  She asks Lily to help her keep an eye on him.  She’s worried.

Jordan goes into lab.  The DNA on the gun is back.  It matches Abby’s.  Woody comes in.  Jordan goes in to tell garret about the DNA on the gun.  There are 4 people missing.  Jordan says there were two in the closet.  The girl that got shot and Abby who shot Oscar (the gang member).

Woody explains who Oscar is that he was a gang member and he and his partners are suspects in multiple gang related murders.

Nigel comes in.  Nigel has clue that might help them piece together where Abby has been. 

Woody and Jordan are talking.  She picks up coffee to take a drink and makes a face.  Woody asks what is it?  Jordan says nothing…it’s just…not my coffee.  The coffee she picked up by accident was Garret’s.  It’s laced with alcohol.  She knows that Garret’s still drinking on the job.

Act two: At morgue.  Lily passes by conference office and Mrs. Salavor (Oscars mom) is still in there waiting for her son to be release.  Lily explains he might be here a while longer and probably won’t be released until tomorrow.  Mrs. Salavor says she will wait.  He might have been a gang member, but he was still her son and she loved him.  She won’t leave him, and she’ll stay there until his body is released.  Lily just nods understandingly and lets her stay.  Oscar’s mom asks if she can send Chad’s mom some flowers as she and her sister own a flower shop.  Lily says that’s very thoughtful and she’ll get the address.

At precinct.  Woody is interrogating two of the guys who fled the crime scene (who killed Chad and the other guy).

Jordan and Garret are watching. 

Woody says “what do you think this is some kind of game?”  The two guys laugh and say yes.  They have big attitudes and know Woody has nothing to link them to the shooting at the moment.  They won’t talk to him.  They want lawyers.

Garret goes rushing in, loosing all control.  He threatens them demanding to know where his daughter is.  Woody and Jordan get him separated from them. 

Jordan tells Garret he needs to step aside.  She (Jordan) will handle the case.  Garret leaves.

Woody comes back (at morgue).  The credit card Maggie gave Abby has just been used to withdraw cash.  The video at the ATM shows Abby trying to get money.  Jordan relays the news to Garret and Maggie and tells them to home.  Be there for Abby if she tries to call.  That’s the best place for them right now.

Jordan in lab, Garret is there autopsying the body.

Jordan gets slightly upset.  She tells Garret they’ve got it covered.  He needs to go home.  Garret yells at her.  Telling her he’s fine and can do the job.  Jordan rants back telling him he needs to go home because he’s tired, he’s too close, and for drinking on a job.

Garret accused Jordan of threatening him and says “damn write this is a threat.”  Garret explodes.  Jordan really threatens him.  Tells him to take the gloves off and walk out the door or he’ll never set foot in the morgue again.  Garret leaves.

Garret is at home watching the video of Abby from the ATM over and over.  His phone rings.  It’s Abby.  He wants to know where she is.  She says something terrible has happened.  He wants her to tell him where she is.  She tells him.  He tells her not to move he’s on his way.

Garret arrives at the payphone in a seedy part of town.  He finds the phone it’s off the hook. (AWESOME MUSIC is playing in the background a mix of hip hop and a softer music)

Garret shouts out the empty street for Abby.

Act three: A homeless man with a cart comes walking up the sidewalk.  Garret questions him.  He says he “didn’t see nobody”.  Garret asks if there’s a place he can by dope.    Guy still won’t talk.  Garret gives him 40 bucks.  The homeless man spills.  Two blocks down the ally...  Garret goes running off.

At morgue: Chad’s mom comes in to Lily’s office and drops the flowers on Lily’s table.  She is furious that Lily gave out her address.  Lily listens to her and then apologies.  Chad’s mom explains how she raised him on her own.  She consulted the best, sent him to the best rehab…and still nothing worked.  There comes a time though when he has to make a choice and she had to let him go—tough love she called it.  Her phone rings.  She has to get to hospital for surgery.  Lily is surprised that she’s working right now and hasn’t taken anytime off.  Lily can see that Chad’s mom isn’t dealing with the grief of her son’s death well. 

Nigel and Bug going over Chad’s grandma’s car, which he ‘borrowed’ from her.  It has a GPS system, which means they should be able to track where he’s been.  They get to work on it.

Woody calls Jordan over.  They’re trying to identify the other girl in the picture (who was at the ATM with Abby.  They ID her.  She’s Jennifer, been in trouble before, not the first time, she’s in the system.  Woody and Jordan show up at Jennifer’s hangout (the location was given to Woody from her parole officer)  Jordan recognizes Garret’s car at the scene.

In the hotel room.  They find the Jennifer she’s dead.

Outside: Garret walking through an ally.  Homeless people camped out around fires, questionable people looking like thugs watching him…his phone starts to ring.  It’s Abby.  He says he’s in a spot two blocks…guy comes up to him and takes his phone—no phones are allowed there.  Garret tells him to give him his phone and get lost.   The man doesn’t take kindly to Garret’s threats and starts to hit him when Garret tried to grab his phone back.  Man leaves garret unconscious on the ground. And walks away

Someone picks Garret up and helps him into a old abandoned building.  It’s Abby.  A car screeches out side.  The two thugs Woody arrested show up.  Abby comes back and says he needs to get up and go upstairs with her.  Garret has a hard time walking.  She helps him.

Jordan calls Bug and has him check the GPS on Grandma’s car, for any heavily visited place in the area.  They’re trying to find Garret.  There’s a place by them that Chad visited every day.

In abandoned building: Abby is apologizing to Garret.  She didn’t mean to hurt him.  She was just fooling around.  Abby and Garret have a heart to heart talk.  Garret tells Abby he loves her.

Morgue, conference room:  Oscars family still there.  Lily brings them a drink.  Chad’s mom stops by.  She’s dropping off a form for Chad’s body to be dropped off for cremation.  She goes to leave.  Lily tries to talk to her.  Lily tries to tell her she needs to find a way to forgive Chad and say goodbye to him.  Chad’s mom gives Lily a look then walks into the elevator.

In ally:  Jordan and Woody show up.  Woody tells her to lock the doors and call for back up.  Jordan sees the thugs show up, with guns in their hands.  She gets out of the car and starts to follow them. 

Abby hears someone enter.  Garret tells Abby to go, hide. 

Jordan picks up a tire iron.  She hits the gang members car and sets the alarm off.  One of  the thugs goes out to check on his car.  Jordan finds a way into the building.  Woody comes up behind the thug checking his car.  He says police drop the gun.  The two are in a stand off as both are holding the gun on each other.

Act Four: Jordan is climbing in through a window.  Garret and bad guy are on opposite sides of wall.  Abby hiding around another corner

Back in ally:  The guys put their guns up.  They’re about to shot when back up shows up. 

In warehouse: Garret jumps on the thug as he comes around the other side of the wall.  He knocks gun out of bad guy’s hands – they fight and  the bad guy gets pushed over the edge.

Jordan rushes in.  She starts yelling at him about how worried they were about him.  She then breaks down and gives him a hug of relief.  The three leave the warehouse.

Jordan is in front of her apartment with Woody.  He’s dropping her off.  She asks if he wants to come in.  He tells her he doesn’t want to be the rebound guy.  This all feels too soon.  She kisses him on cheek and smile understandingly.

At morgue next morning: Chad’s mom shows up.  She sees Oscar’s mom who gives her a rose and a look of understanding.  She goes to visit her son.  Lily lets her in and gives her space.  Chad’s mom finally breaks down and cries over her son’s body.

Garret Abby and Maggie are talking in his office.  Abby has to go into rehab.  Garret gives a lecture that Abby does have problem (despite her insistence that she doesn’t). It sounds like he’s talking about his own situation as well as Abby’s.

Jordan, Lily, Bug and Nigel all in the break room.  Garret enters and empties his scotch bottle in front of them.  Lily and Jordan smile at him.
