Julie's
Review - Dinner for
Two
A
dinner date, a murder, and a nursery rhyme all come
together amid an array of quotable quotes in this third
episode of Crossing Jordan Virtual Season 7. Jordan has
every reason to be nervous about this date, and it ends,
somewhat mercifully, on a murderous note, when a man is
shot just outside L'Espalier. Also, the morgue staff
marvel at the somewhat surprising stomach contents
recovered from a corpse.
Strengths:
Storyline:
The storyline was entertaining, dramatic, and had the
nice touch of weaving in the snow globe we've seen so
many times before. Dialogue: From the beginning
of this virtual episode, the banter was quick and clever
and filled with quips that had me laughing. For the most
part, the statements were all in character, and
"viewers" could easily imagine characters delivering the
remarks. Woody definitely would have said "and that is
littering" when Jordan threw the cigarette on the
ground. Artwork: The pictures provided a nice
supplement to the scene, visually breaking up the
reading. The pictures of Jordan's date outfit; the
corpse outside the restaurant; and Nigel, Bug, and Lily
looking at the giant container of stomach contents were
all particularly good. Relationship development:
It was interesting to see both Woody and Jordan
struggling to get through a formal date, and all the
bets being placed on that date really added amusement to
the plot. Music: The music also provided a nice
supplement to the episode, and the "oh yeah" song really
made me laugh. Favorite Quote: Well, there are a
couple—"I can win my money back if one or both of you is
admitted to the ER before midnight."; and "No battery
charges were filed. I'm impressed."
Areas for Improvement
Editing:
This episode could have benefited from an editor. There
were some omitted words, some words out of place, some
incorrect word forms, and some misspellings. To the
editorially minded person, it could be distracting.
Additionally, one of the pictures, the one entitled
waa-laa (voila?), seemed just a little late in
placement. Dialogue: The one bit of dialogue that
was on the disturbing and (perhaps out-of-character)
side was Woody's statement about thinking of Jordan as a
piece of lint. I would hope he wouldn't say something
like that, particularly to someone else, considering
where they are in their relationship. Artwork:
Only one picture, the picture at the investment firm,
stood out as not being as important to the story as the
others. Plot: While the Prader-Willi plot was
interesting, it's already been used in an episode of
CSI.
I
give Dinner for Two 3 stars out of 4 as the
clever and quick banter more than made up for the
editing pitfalls and the Prader-Willi plot.
