Episode 46
Devil May Care (03-07-04)
Brief Synopsis: Macy suspects a
high-school student of committing a satanic murder; Jordan overhears the sound
of foul play through a ventilation system.
This episode left me mad as all hell and
very upset. Not at the show or our beloved characters, but at the villain. A
heartless, cruel, exceptionally smart high school student. It still gets me
upset thinking about it now.
I guess I should take that as a sign
that this was a good episode. I don’t usually get worked up or so passionate.
The thing that made me really mad was that this high school student could
randomly chose a defenseless old man and kill him for the pleasure of trying to
stump Garret. He saw it all as a game—who’s smarter. Trying to prove that
there is such a thing as a perfect crime. I know there are people like that out
there and it makes me wonder how the hell they grew up with no conscious what so
ever. I hope the kid enjoys rotting in jail.
Since I’m already ranting about Garret’s
story line I’ll continue with it. They find a body in the park—hung and with a
satanic symbol carved into his chest. The clues eventually lead them to a high
school student who’s spent a summer at forensic camp. He’s a smart kid, but he
was wired wrong—dangerous combination. He’s constantly one upping Garret. He
taunts Garret asking him if he believes in the ‘Perfect Crime’, which Garret
tells him he doesn’t. It makes it frustrating for Garret that he can’t seem to
find a mistake to call him on.
Jordan and the ventilation system was an
amusing escapade that turned out to actually be one of those times when Jordan
really was right and wasn’t just chasing a ghost. They’re doing work on the
ventilation system and Jordan’s working in her office when she hears someone
murdered—or so she swears. No one really believes her. She drags Nigel into
who helps her set up surveillance and break into their office. Garret tells
them to quit wasting time. Garret’s occupied with his case and not into dealing
with Jordan.
Loved the part when Jordan and Nigel are
heading back to the 11th floor and Garret steps out of the elevator.
He’s frustrated with his case and goes at Jordan. He wants her for once to just
do something he asks. So she has Peter go with Nigel to break back into the
office. Clever and totally Jordan.
Nigel does his detective work and learns
they’re looking for an Alex Corvo. An extra body appears in the morgue…our
missing Alex Corvo—and yes he’s been shot. Jordon’s smug and content as she
relays the information to the police officers, as she should be with the
attitude he gave her. Case Closed.
In the end Jordan gets all the paper
work done, Garret solves his case and Jordan even holds her tongue and doesn’t
say those three little words—told you so. And then of course the ‘Man’ upstairs
comment…or is it ‘women’ upstairs? (in reference to God)
4 out of 5 Dead Bodies. I thought this
was solid episode. With comical relief provided marvelously by Jordan’s little
mystery (comic relief that was much needed after Garret’s story line).
