Episode 62
Deja Past
(10-17-04)

Brief Synopsis: Jordan gets word of a dead body in a house she used to be scared to go into as a kid. After Jordan and Nigel go into the house they find the skeletal remains of her husband. Nigel and Jordan believe that Lois McPhearson may have killed her husband.

Looks like Woody’s diverted his attention towards Devan—not that I can blame him.  I’m surprised he’s stuck with Jordan this long.  I’m mean the guy is a HEALTHY male and Jordan just keeps turning him down at every turn.  I liked the bantering between Devan and Woody.  It was different from Jordan and Woody, yet similar.  I think Woody has a thing for opinionated and difficult women! That said I was a decent episode.

Woody and Devan:  We’ve seem them work together before.  They have a compatibility.  It’s not like Jordan and Woody.  Oh Devan doesn’t listen any better than Jordan and she speaks back just as much, but it’s different.  They still work well together and I always enjoy their cases.  Despite others opinions I like Devan.  She keeps Woody on his toes which is always fun to watch.

Devan doesn’t take well to Woody comparing how she does things in the lab verse how Jordan does.  Definitely not the way to impress a girl—comparing her to her rival.

Loved this exchange.  This is after Woody and Devan had been talking/flirting:

Devan: I think I can see it.
Woody: What? Us?
Devan: No. This. (pointing to a ring in the grate)

Jordan and Nigel: I liked this case.  The flash backs from present to past were well done and encompassed the feeling of a child’s fear and dread very nicely.  We get to see a persistent Jordan.  When gets into one of her phases there’s not stopping her.  Carver is usually pretty patient with Jordan but even she starts to get fed up with Jordan.  She tries multiple times to close the case.  Good thing Jordan persisted though as it turns out there was more to the case.

I always like Nigel and Jordan working together.  They have a much more easy camaraderie than when Jordan is with any of the other characters.  I think much of that is due to the fact that Nigel’s smitten with Jordan and will do anything for her (as proven from the very beginning).  Jordan and Nigel have a special bond.  Don’t get me wrong all the other interact great, but after four seasons, I have to say that there’s something more between Nigel and Jordan—an extra understanding.  Nigel does anything for Jordan and I believe Jordan would do the same for Nigel.

One question – how many places did Jordan live growing up?  We know they started off in an area that’s now abandoned (I’d have to go look names up and I don’t feel like it).  Then there was the place with Blackie and her best friend (the fireman who faked his death).  Then there’s where Max is living now…That girl moved around – not that that’s not normal, but a police officer stays in one place usually.  All that moving doesn’t ring true.

Garret: Garret has some character development.  He was hooked on this case from the very beginning.  You could see and feel an emotion attachment.  We learn that Garret’s draft number was called for Vietnam only he declared premed and got deferred—while his best friend went over and got killed in the action.

His past actions still weigh heavily on him.  Jordan tells Garret to let go of the past.  He helped his country another way: by becoming a doctor.

3 out of 5 Dead Bodies.  Overall a tender episode, with some nice character building moments.
