Lara's
Review - Death Goes On
I
didn't love this episode, all the way through I felt as
if something was off and uncomfortable, it was like
watching the first edit of the episode rather than the
finished product. The musical interludes that I feel
often integrate the two plot lines were at times
lacking, and the usually such smooth and precise
transitions did not connect. Some of the scenes left me
feeling cold, as if they were cut before they were
correctly finished, sometimes 0.2 of a second can make
all the difference if it means adding a finishing line
or look.
The plot lines seemed forced, there were no surprises
and kind of just played out, which would have usually
upset me but, I think this episode was not about the
storylines this week, I think it was about setting up
some very important plot lines to come involving the
personal lives of the main characters. I believe it’s
going to be like the first season of Lost, where you
have to go back and re watch the episodes and you go 'oh
yeah, that’s why they did that!' - There has obviously
been the talk of something 'big' happening and I think
the set up has already begun.
I
liked the various developments in the interpersonal
relationships. Lily and Brandau are great, and are so
cute; I loved having Seely back and witnessing Brandau's
attempts at asking Lily on a date and because of the
‘thing’ Seely has for Lily, it is going to, potentially,
create an interesting love triangle – to use a quote of
Nigel’s ‘our little morgue’s turned into quite the hot
bed of frustrated romance.’ (With Honor, 1.18)
Seeing the continual demise of Garret was great and the
fact that Jordan has now witnessed his drinking on the
job, means that something is going to come to ahead
soon, that scene felt particularly uncomfortable to
watch, which is great, it makes the scene it more
interesting! I'm hoping we see more of Renee this
season, she is a character you love to hate, and she
would give Garret the swift kick up the ass he needs!
And if the rumors true that we will see some of Maggie
and Abby as well this season!
With Jordan and JD, and the 'test', it’s a cute idea, to
see yourself reflected in someone else’s eyes, it is a
romantic idea, one that I would fail in an instant! But
seriously, I think probably most men all the way around
the world would fail, I think this is where us women ask
too much of men. It is obvious that the end is nigh for
Jordan and JD. Where this leaves the Jordan/Woody
relationship is yet to be seen, it does provide an
interesting opportunity for a plot twist, especially if
you throw in the recently added full time cast member,
Lu. I hope it is not the last we see of JD and that his
exit is more dramatic!
I
like Jordan this season, she balances the thin line
between being fiercely independent with walls around her
to prevent her from getting hurt and being extremely
needy for love, something, as we have seen in past
episodes, she lacked when she was growing up. It’s a
difficult character to write and I think the writers are
doing a fabulous job!
So
all in all, an ok episode with some excellent character
beats!
