Episode 57
Dead in the Water
(05-23-04)

Brief Synopsis: The detectives investigate when the body of a politician's missing daughter washes ashore.

There were two story lines this week.

Jordan and Woody:  They really do work well together.  I’ve come to the conclusion that Woody, Jordan and Nigel have great chemistry (work related).  They each see a certain and very different aspect of each crime and when you put the three of them together you can’t help but get caught up in the case with them.

We’re led on quite a merry chase to get to the bottom of this case.  We start with her husband move on someone named Steven who’s connected to her and ends up dead and then to this mysterious Richard Flinn—who turns out to be our missing girl.

To add urgency to the case is the fact that the girl had a daughter.  No one knows where she is or if she’s even still alive.  Lily was very emotional.  It’s one of the few times she has a chance to tell someone some good news and she does her best to find the girl.  It proves once again how passionate and caring Lily is—something we already know.

Jordan starts the episode out asking Woody to talk to her father.  They’ve always had a tough relationship, loving but tough.  Ever since the shooting of Malden and James’s disappearance and the still unsolved/unanswered question about who killed Jordan’s mom, things have been more strained than normal.  Anyway Woody goes and talks with her father.  How much good he did I’m not sure, but Max did end up going to Jordan.  He gave us the shocking or maybe not so shocking news that he’s packing up and leaving.  Where? We don’t know.  I guess he just needs to get away from it all—Jordan including.  I felt sad for both of them.  Max is the only family Jordan has.  As difficult as their relationship is Jordan depends on him in her own way.  It’ll be sad to no loner see Max at his bar and Jordan in her customary seat sharing the days tale with him.

Wonder what Jordan is going to do with the bar?

This episode was kind of too fast moving.  The scenes went from one to the next to the next to the next and keeping up was a bit of an effort.  And average story.

Garret and Capra:  I like Capra as a person.  She’s a good detective, good personality and all, but she doesn’t ignite that spark that the other detectives manage to.  I always feel like the scenes lack a little something because of that.  She’s got this quite demeanor that actually fools some people into a false sense of security, but also puts me to sleep sometimes.

That said her case with Garret was interesting.  Maybe because I was so tired it just didn’t dawn on me that the wife had a twin.  But until we saw the 7-phase fade out (scary what plastic surgery can do to a person) I didn’t realize it was the lawyer (the wife’s sister) that had killed the husband.  I imagine it must have been hard for her to lose her twin to a man (especially if they grew up sharing that special bond us non-twins only read about) To top it off to learn that her sister’s husband is cheating on her---well I guess that could be reason enough to lose it.

Inadvertently she managed to help the other partner of the practice.  He sure didn’t seem to sad over his partner’s death.  Guess he has it made now.  Too bad he wasn’t guilty in some way…then again maybe he’s not a bad person, we just didn’t get to see his better side.

2 1/2 out of 5 Dead Bodies.
