Episode 2
The Dawn of a New Day (10-01-01)
Brief Synopsis: A waitress has an unusual reaction to the shooting death of her cabdriver husband.
I like the title: The Dawn of a New Day—it’s a fresh start for Jordan. She’s been given a second chance. It’s now her job not to screw up. She managed to piss a few people off and spend the night in the police barracks, but she didn’t physically assault anyone so I guess that’s improvement. And her hardheadedness did eventually pay off.
Characters:
Lily Lebowski: First impressions left me a little weary of Lily. She’s acting like a lovesick high school student. Garret’s completely oblivious to it—or he’s purposely ignoring it—I don’t think he knows how to deal with Lily. It’s just one more thing piled on his plate that’s already overflowing. After Jordan points out Lily likes him he awkward and uncomfortable around Lily—he’s not quite sure how to deal with her.
Dr. Nigel Townsend: Smart, funny, sense of humor, loves to impart his knowledge which, from the looks of this episode, is quite extensive.
Character Interaction:
Jordan and Winslow: Eddie Winslow and Jordan have a history. He turned her father in—was her father’s last partner. She’s none too happy about working with him. They’re at odds on this case. Winslow is accepting the easy answer that this murder is connected to a recent string of cab robberies. Jordan doesn’t think that. She believes this case isn’t even related to robbery cases.
Trey and Bug and Nigel: Bug seemed more normal. He was talked into figuring out who Mr. Stinky was. I think he enjoyed the challenge. Bug might be a little quirky, but he’s smart. He’s a little less neurotic in this episode—much more likable. Trey gives me the impression that he doesn’t quite fit in. Maybe because he was with Bug and Nigel—two extremely smart men. Trey seemed out of his league. He’s personable and fun and it seems like the morgue is the last place he should be.
Jordan and Evelyn: Evelyn is definitely staking her ground. Jordan went and spoiled dinner by explaining how a wife blew a husbands brain out (nice and graphic in her description) Oh but she’s not done. Then she goes on to say how often things like that happen—a husband or wife killing each other. She does a great job at making everyone uncomfortable. She’s not going to go down without a fight. Max give her a good talking to—telling her to apologize or leave the house. Jordan was out of line. She hasn’t had to share her dad though with anyone so it’s understandable that she’s jealous of Evelyn.
The plot line was one we’re seen before. Two perfect strangers meet up and decided to kill for each other. Jordan’s instincts were right. I liked the Mr. Stinky story. It wasn’t anything special but it served as a great introduction for Nigel and further development for Bug and Trey.
Overall we got a good character episode. The characters were flushed out a bit more and we’ve been introduce to all the cast members. There’s a lot of good interaction between everybody. Some tension, some laughter, some flirting, some disagreements—a good combination of reactions. Can’t wait to see where everyone goes from here.
3 out of 5 Dead Bodies.
