Episode 4
Born to Run (10-15-01)

Brief Synopsis: Jordan investigates a double homicide at a men's club run by the Russian mob.

Jordan: This was Jordan’s spotlight today.  If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…then the logical conclusion is it must NOT be a duck…that is if you’re in Jordan’s shoes.  Hard-headed—that’s a good word to describe Jordan.  Something wasn’t right and she was going to find out why.  You have to admit though…you get a body that’s decomposing 4 times faster than another one supposedly killed at the same time and questions are bound to rise.

Jordan’s search for the sister’s brother again proves Jordan’s dedication to her job as well as the fact that she really cares.  These people aren’t just bodies that have to be examined and processed and sent on their way to her.  They’re human beings with stories that need a satisfying ending (or as satisfying an ending one can get in these cases).

Jordan and Tyler: So Jordan doesn’t do ‘commitment’ well.  This was an interesting insight to Jordan’s personal life.  Supposedly Jordan went running from Tyler when things started to get too serious—i.e. when she started to lose control over the relationship.  Her relationships must be short lived if she’s afraid of commitment.

On a side note: I’m glad Jordan’s moved out.  The tension in the Cavanaugh house was getting explosive…and it was only a matter of time before things blew.  Now maybe things will settle down a bit.

On a second side note: I’m liking Bug and Nigel more and more.  They do eavesdropping so well.  Guess they’re just trying to learn more about Jordan too. They don’t know too much about her.  Though Bug and Jordan know each other, Nigel doesn’t know her at all. I love the working atmosphere developing in the morgue.

Garret and Abby: How humorous it was watching Garret try to deal with his daughter and grasp the meaning of ‘messing around’.  Not to say the situation and matters at hand were humorous—just Garret’s total lack of ability of being able to deal with it.  He loves his daughter.  That much is clear—he doesn’t leave any doubt in that matter.  He just doesn’t know how to show these emotions to a 17 year old girl.

Abby’s a rebellious young lady.  Obviously the divorce and having one parent raise her hasn’t been to her benefit.  Garret’s wife doesn’t seem to clue Garret in on much and Garret seems to be in the father role when his wife wants to drop Abby off for a weekend here and there.

A bit over the top, but effective was Garret’s way of finally getting through to his daughter.  My guess is he knocked a little sense into her.  Giving the kid a doze of reality can’t hurt her. It’s an image she won’t forget for awhile.

The dynamic of the morgue is really starting to take shape.  I like the cast of characters. It’s starting to develop nicely.

The overall story left everyone feeling depressed and a little frustrated.  Though a stronger ending might have been nice the ending we got was more real to me this way.  Deals are made, justice not always delivered upon those who deserve it.

Overall it was an emotionally frustrating episode.  I can’t wait to learn more about Jordan’s personal life.  It definitely sparked an interest.

3 out of 5 Dead Bodies.
