Episode 12
Blood Relatives
(1-14-02)

Brief Synopsis: Jordan investigates a former hockey star when his wife and children are found murdered.

Interesting case, interesting twist.  The man has two lives, two families.  One in Pennsylvania and the other in Massachusetts.  He goes from having to families to having no one.  Tough price to pay—but then there’s always a cost when you do something wrong.

Jordan: Wow.  We’ve been learning about Jordan’s background in leaps and bounds.   The case hits close to home with Jordan.  Kim even accuses Jordan of losing perspective.  Jordan doesn’t admit it until the end when she’s talking with her father.

There’s no question that the bond Jordan shared with her mom is still holding on somewhere—she won’t ever let go of her memories—which (up to this point) have been good memories.  I have to think that there is more behind this though.  Why would Jordan’s mom be murdered?  From all we’ve learn so far she was a typical house wife devoted to her daughter and husband—a loving family by all accounts.  Nothing’s been mentioned about the why or who (other then it’s unsolved) so I believe there’s still much more to the story.  I’ll be patient and wait for the story to unfold.

Bug and Nigel: Once again the pessimism in Bug appears and the optimist in Nigel shines.  Ethan claims to be a psychic at the morgue to deliver a message—for a dead lady.  He added a great bit of humor—talking with the dead bodies.  Bug tries to throw him out and claims he’s loony.  Nigel has a bit more fun with the situation.

I’ve notice Nigel seems tries to enjoy everything thrown his way.  You can’t help but get caught up in his enthusiasm for even some of the most mundane cases.

Garret and Lily: What’s up with Garret and his ex-wife?  I’m almost glad she’s there—just because she’s making Lily doubt what Garret’s intentions are.  However then he has to go and kiss Lily in the end and that’s all she needs to go back to her smitten self.  Lily is starting to grow on me though.  She does see the better side of most situations and always seems to get others to see it too.

So it seems both Jordan and Garret have accepted that the past is the past and can’t be changed.  In this episode they’ve come to understand that they need to let go of their hold on the past and move forward and embrace what life holds ‘now’.  Garret I think will be successful in his attempt to move on.  Jordan…well she’s been obsessed with her mother’s murder since she was a child.  I can’t see her completely letting go of the past and moving on.  Her personality is too driven.  She ‘has’ to find answers and doesn’t rest until she has.   So I think her mother’s going to surface again, though hopefully it won’t have that hold over her that it seems to have now.

3 1/2 out of 5 Dead Bodies.  Good character building for Jordan.
