TV Guide for Sept. 18 - 24th
Question and answer section with executive producer, Jon Cowan & Jill

WHERE WE LEFT OFF: "When last we saw Jordan, she was in D.C. with a gun in her pocket." Says star Jill Hennessy. She was on the lamb after waking up with the weapon in her hand and a dead ex in her bed. We hate it when that happens.

WHAT'S NEXT: To no one's surprise; Jordan didn't do it. "We solve the cliff-hanger in the first episode, but a lot of rules were broken and there are consequences, "says executive producer Jon Cowan." The embattled Jordan will revert to the brash rule-breaker of the shows early seasons. "We're getting back to what drew me to the character in the first place", Hennessy says. "She's this messy, off-the-hook person who's always flying by the seat of her pants."

WHO'S NEW: Grey's Anatomy vet, Brooke Smith joins the show as a medical examiner (A character Cowan says "we'll love to hate"), while Touching Evil's Jeffrey Donovan guests as a special prosecutor.

CROSSING OVER: Early on, a regular character will die. "IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT EPISODE, BUT IT REALLY DEPRESSES ME," Hennessy says. "I'M REALLY GOING TO MISS HANGING OUT WITH THIS PERSON, & I'M NOT SURE WHY IT HAD TO HAPPEN."

*SPOILER* Little tidbit on the third episode of season 6 from Buddy TV

August 9 2006

Ask Ausiello posts some tidbits about new cast members joining CJ this season.

Question: I heard there's a new character joining Crossing Jordan in Season 6. Got the scoop? — Nalex

Ausiello: Jordan's actually adding a few new characters this season. In the Oct. 20 season premiere, you'll meet the new medical examiner in the morgue, Dr. Kate Switzer, played by Grey's Anatomy's Brooke Smith. In the second episode, Jeffrey Donovan (Touching Evil) joins the cast as a special prosecutor investigating alleged improprieties in the Boston Medical Examiner's Office. Finally, a new and yet-to-be-cast rogue cop will be introduced later in the season.

NBC makes changes to its schedule. Crossing Jordan will air in the Fall on Friday Nights at 8pm.

May 19th 2006

From TVGuide.com - A about where CJ will be placed in next Fall's schedule.

Question: I was looking over the fall schedule for NBC and I happened to notice there is no time slot for Crossing Jordan. Am I to assume the worst? The season finale left us all hanging, and I certainly would like some answers. Is that going to happen, or should I just get ready for the disappointment now? — Tiffani

Matt Roush: Relax. Crossing Jordan will return with a full season's worth of episodes. Just not right away. It's being held in reserve and will be back on the schedule when a slot opens up. NBC regards Jordan as a "utility player," which will draw its loyal audience to any night or time period, and the network is probably right on that count.

Crossing Jordan has been OFFICIALLY renewed for a 6th season.

BURBANK – April 28, 2006 – NBC has picked up three of its hit dramas in "Medium," "Crossing Jordan" and "Las Vegas" for the 2006-07 season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.    "These three shows have A+ creative auspices and some of the most loyal audiences on television," said Reilly. "I'm thrilled that we can count on them again next season."

"Crossing Jordan" (Sundays, 10-11 p.m. ET) is averaging a 3.3 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 11.0 million viewers overall so far this season. "Crossing Jordan" is improving by 6 percent on its 18-49 lead-in in the Sunday (10 p.m. ET) hour.

Currently in its fifth season, "Crossing Jordan" will be celebrating its 100th episode on May 7 and looks forward to a sixth with its popular cadre of coroners. Jill Hennessy ("Law & Order") stars as Jordan Cavanaugh, the beautiful, smart and fearless Boston medical examiner who investigates disturbing topical crimes and offenses.    In the morgue, Jordan works under the guidance of Dr. Garrett Macy (Miguel Ferrer, "Traffic") along with criminalist Nigel (Steve Valentine, "The Muse"), forensic entomologist "Bug" (Ravi Kapoor, "Gideon's Crossing") and grief counselor Lily Lebowski (Kathryn Hahn, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"). Jerry O'Connell ("Jerry Maguire") and Leslie Bibb also star as detectives, who the coroners rely upon to put in the legwork to hunt down perpetrators of these crimes.    "Crossing Jordan" is from Tailwind Productions in association with NBC Universal Television Studio. Tim Kring ("Providence") is creator and executive producer. Dennis Hammer ("The David Cassidy Story") and Allan Arkush ("St. Elsewhere"), who directs many of the episodes, are also executive producers.

Question: Any scoop on the season finale of Crossing Jordan? — Alexis

Ausiello: The death that Jordan gets framed for occurs very early on in the episode. And things are going to start looking really good for one of your favorite couples — and no, I'm not referring to Jordan and Woody, although he does put his job on the line in order to clear her name. If that's not love, I don't know what is.

Question: On the show Crossing Jordan, there is a character whose name is so long that everyone calls him "Bug." Does he have a real name, and if so what is it? — Jo, Conway, Ark.

Televisionary: I'll tell you, Jo, but I just want you to know that the name is so darned long our tech people had to install a larger hard drive on our server just to hold the page. Prepare your eyes for the strain whilst I limber up my typing fingers...
Ready? On the NBC crime drama, forensic entomologist "Bug" is blessed with the birth name Mahesh Vijayaraghavensatyanaryanamurthy. But given his job — as regular viewers know, he uses his knowledge of insects to help solve crimes — it's a heck of a lot easier to call him "Bug," since by the time a colleague finished wrestling with that moniker, any perp would have long ago skipped town.
And for all you skeptics out there, the name's authentic, according to actor Ravi Kapoor (Gideon's Crossing), who plays the good doctor. “The producers had seen a long South Indian name and liked the idea,” he explained. "My wife is South Indian, so I was able to help them find a real name to use."

News Release on 100th episode.  VERY SPOILERISH--careful before reading.

BURBANK, Calif. -- March 29, 2006 -- Currently in its fifth season, the procedural drama "Crossing Jordan" will air its 100th episode as the season finale on NBC, Sunday, May 7 (10-11 p.m. ET). The cast and crew celebrated this important milestone with an event on set with network and studio executives, during the filming of the finale episode.

In this episode titled "It Had To Be You," which will be directed by Executive Producer Allan Arkush, Jordan (Jill Hennessy) will find herself in an unexpected situation that will challenge her both professionally and personally. After celebrating Lily's (Kathryn Hahn) engagement, Jordan wakes up the next morning with a gun in her hand lying next to the body of her former beau J.D. Pollack (guest star Charles Mesure), who has a bullet in his chest. With little recollection of the previous night's events and no explanation for what transpired, a shell-shocked Jordan becomes the number one suspect.

Determined to clear Jordan's name, Macy (Miguel Ferrer) and the rest of the team begin investigating the series of events leading up to Pollack's death. However, Woody (Jerry O'Connell) and Lu (Leslie Bibb), who have recently become romantically linked, take opposing sides on the case, creating a wedge between them. With the evidence stacking up against Jordan, she is faced with the challenge of persuading her friends and colleagues that she is innocent. Or is she? Ravi Kapoor and Steve Valentine also star.

The same night as the season finale, viewers will also be able to tune in to the concluding webcast of the show's interactive web site www.nigelblog.com. Launched March 12, Nigel's blog allows fans to play Cupid in the love triangle between Lily, her longtime friend and co-worker Bug (Ravi Kapoor), and her new love interest Brandau (Ethan Sandler). Looming questions will be answered, and all will know whether she walks down the aisle with Brandau or whether she finds love with Bug.

Brief news bit with Jill Hennessy commenting on the Digger Episode.

Jill Hennessey Recalls Filming Terrifying Coffin Scene for 'Crossing Jordan'

Claustrophobic Crossing Jordan star Jill Hennessy was left terrified when she was briefly buried alive in a coffin during a night shoot for the show. The actress had nightmares about the scene, in which she lies in wait for a killer, before the coffin shots were filmed. The actor playing the killer accidentally slammed the lid to the coffin shut at the end of the scene, and the crew were so keen to move on to the next shot, they left the screaming Hennessy inside the box, contemplating a slow death.

She reveals, "We were shooting at Griffith Park in Los Angeles one night and it was a full night shoot and I had to get inside a coffin. It was a real coffin and it was supposed to be left open because I am extremely claustrophobic. We had a gentleman who played the killer and he was supposed to jump into the grave, and I was inside the coffin. They yelled 'Action,' and he jumped in and pushed the coffin lid shut. Somehow it locked and he jumped on top of the lid to get out of the grave and they kept rolling the camera and yelled 'Cut' and nobody knew that I was locked inside."

She added, "After a while I'm in there screaming and I'm thinking, 'OK this is the end of my life.' Eventually, they were like, 'Where's Jill? We need her for the next shot,' and then they realized the gentleman had shut the lid on me and they came and got me out. I was a little upset."

- Ask Ausiello posted a few responses to questions on the season finale.

Question: Crossing Jordan will be celebrating its 100th episode this season. Any scoop on what will take place? — Yvonne

Ausiello: Not only is the May 7 episode the show's 100th, but it's also the season finale. You know what that means: big doings! "Someone the audience has gotten to know pretty well this year ends up dead, and Jordan is accused of the murder," teases exec producer Tim Kring. "We leave that as the cliff-hanger. She basically has to flee to prove her innocence."

Question: Will Ken Howard ever come back to Crossing Jordan? — Kim

Ausiello: That's a negative. "We will not see Ken Howard again," states Tim Kring. "The one occasion that we've had in the last two years to bring him back was not a successful enough episode for us to make that case to the network."

Question: Anything new happening on Crossing Jordan? — Beth K.

Ausiello: Did I mention that the 100th episode also features a wedding? 'Cause it does. And there will be a new development in the ongoing Jordan-Woody romantic saga. "That gets closer," Kring hints. "But, obviously, that's put on hold by the fact that [Jordan] has become a fugitive."

- Ask Ausiello posted a tit bit about Woody and Lu.

Question: You never mention one of my favorite shows: Crossing Jordan. I need some gossip on it. I know there are other Jordan fans out there! — Mandy

Ausiello: Don't get too accustomed to the idea of Woody and Lu as a couple. Their romance will crash soon after takeoff, freeing Woody up to (possibly) rekindle things with Jordan. But don't say goodbye to Lu just yet: I hear Leslie Bibb is currently in talks to return next season.

Los Angeles, Jan. 21-22, 2006 – We shlepped over to Pasadena this weekend for the last rounds (finally!) of the Television Critics Association winter press tour, with ABC and NBC closing out the marathon look-see sessions.

Does Rebecca Romijn have two TV series’ on competing networks, we wondered upon encountering her at the NBC bash. We’d just seen her last Monday pushing her upcoming WB drama. Nope, she was there supporting her man, "Crossing Jordan’s" Jerry O’Connell. “This is his night. I’ve already had mine”, she said. The pair looked very much in love, and Romijn wore a large diamond ring on her finger, so it seems reports of a breakup were false.

There are so many people at these things that they are often preceded by name tags, and at one point, some publicist must have needed a smoke break. Justin Bartha, Sarah Alexander and "The L Word’s" Sarah Shahi strolled along holding their own signs, airport-driver-style.

We found Arquettes at both network shindigs. Patricia Arquette’s hit show, "Medium", is on NBC, while sister Rosanna has a new series for ABC, starting in March.

Lisa Rinna’s "Dancing With the Stars" partner, Louis van Amstel. looks uncannily like her real-life husband, Harry Hamlin. Anyway, Rinna campaigned, repeatedly telling us, “We need your votes”.

Only a smattering of the "Desperate Housewives" cast turned up for ABC’s party, but apparently Eva Longoria is turning them all into San Antonio Spurs fans, her boyfriend Tony Parker’s team: Longoria’s on-screen husband, Ricardo Chavira, sported a knit Spurs’ cap.

TV Guide brief red carpet interview segment with Jill Hennessy.

Ask Ausiello - Crossing Jordan question answered.

Question: Crossing Jordan will reach its 100th episode this season. Any scoop on what happens? — Yvonne

Ausiello: I cornered Jill Hennessy at TV Guide's post-Golden Globes party (cosponsored with NBC and Focus Features) and, although she wasn't privy to 100th-episode prattle, she did tease an upcoming episode that's sure to have watercoolers bubbling. "There's a threesome kind of a scene with myself, Jerry O'Connell and Charles Mesure (J.D.), who plays Jordan's boyfriend now — although she's breaking up with him. But when you see [the scene], you'll understand after about five minutes what's really going on. It's a little deceptive." She also revealed that "Jordan actually tries to adopt a child, which is sort of strange for her character."
