Random Facts:
- Angiomas are benign tumors that are made up
of small blood vessels. They usually appear at or near the surface of the skin.
- According to Chad: Jordan has Meningioma.
Meningioma is a Non-glial tumor.
*
Meningioma:
These tumors grow from the meninges, the layers of tissue covering the brain and
spinal cord. As they grow, meningiomas compress adjacent brain tissue. Symptoms
are often related to this compression of brain tissue, which can also affect
cranial nerves and blood vessels. In some cases, meningioma growth can also
extend into the bones of the head and face, which may produce visible changes.
Most meningiomas are considered nonmalignant or low grade tumors.

HANTAVIRUS
"Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome has been found in
humans in 30 states (460 cases as of January 2007), as well as South America and
Canada, though it continues to be quite rare. Outbreaks in the U.S. have been
traced to rodents — spread via their urine, droppings and saliva, which can
become aerosolized and inhaled by humans. Antibodies to the virus have also been
found in cats, dogs, pigs, cattle and deer. No cases of human-to-human
transmission have been reported in the U.S.; however, an outbreak in Argentina
in 1976 did appear to be spread among humans. The show's depiction of an
asymptomatic spreader is improbable but not impossible.
Early symptoms of the syndrome include fever, muscle aches, headache, fatigue
and abdominal pain. Rashes are characteristic of the hemorrhagic renal but not
the pulmonary syndrome. As the lungs fill with fluid, symptoms progress to
coughing and shortness of breath.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, there is no proven treatment or effective vaccine for a hantavirus
pulmonary syndrome. Ribavirin, the only approved antiviral treatment that has
been shown to be effective against hantaviruses in the test tube, has not yet
been shown effective against the syndrome in patients. And a study in the
January 2006 issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases, published by the CDC,
reported that a genetically engineered hantavirus vaccine that has been tested
in hamsters and monkeys is likely to be of limited use because of variations in
the strains of hantavirus.
--> So though the use of state-of-the-art surveillance and containment
procedures are shown accurately in the show, the use of ribavirin and vaccines
are fictionalized for dramatic effect. And ribavirin can cause birth defects.
Lebowski is right to refuse it."

Quotes:
Ivers:
Is the decedent a child?
Jordan:
No.
Ivers:
Did he die in police custody?
Jordan:
No.
Ivers:
Is he under forty with no known risk factors for sudden
death?
(Jordan doesn’t answer, Ivers looks up)
Jordan:
Is he sanctimonious? Supercilious? Condescending?
(Ivers
goes back to his paper work)
Bug:
Is she crazy?
Nigel:
(with a pleased smile) yeah.
Jordan:
You’re not in charge here. You have no medical
expertise.
Ivers:
Exactly. I’m a lawyer. Yet, I’ve been asked to spend
the last few months babysitting medical examiners who
don’t understand that resources are limited.
Ivers
(to Jordan): As always I appreciate your
advocacy, but no (Jordan starts to walk away) no,
no autopsy on Diego Gonzales.
Jordan:
(chasing after Garret) Garret? Who’s in charge
here? You or that— (Garret cuts Jordan off)
(Jordan in autopsy. Nigel walks in. Gives her a look
when she sees it’s Diego Gonzales she’s about to
autopsy)
Nigel:
You’re going to get us all fired aren’t you?
Jordan:
Look, Ivers has already called in the Attorney General.
They force Garret out, we’re all gone anyway.
Jordan:
Hey do you have an aspirin?
Nigel:
Why you got a headache?
Jordan: His name’s Ivers.
Woody:
Bruins and Canadians. Rivals to the death. The match
up of the season and you are so not ready.
Jordan:
Woody put on a mask.
Woody:
What is that stuff?
Jordan:
Just put on the damn mask. Now.
Woody:
What is it? What’s wrong with him?
Jordan:
I have no idea.
Woody:
I don’t know how you people cope. Could be this could
be that. Eny Meeny Miney Moe.
Jordan:
No different from you.
Woody:
Nah, When I’m working I know what I’m looking at. Shell
casing, shoe print, severed finger.
Jordan:
Looks like I’m not going t catch that game. But maybe
you can catch the last period.
Woody:
Or I could go with you. You’re not the only one who
wants to know if it’s eny, meeny, miney or moe.
Jordan
(to Nigel): Find Bug. And Garret needs to be in
on this too. Interrupt him. But after we go.
Garret:
Your work is very thorough. You have a knack.
Ivers:
Thank you.
Garret:
What you don’t have is a grasp of what is or isn’t
necessary work in a morgue.
Ivers:
I beg to differ. That why the check list is for.
Garret:
Would you send your children to a diagnosed them by a
check list.
Ivers:
Don’t have children. Your patients, doctor, are dead.
Garret:
Which makes the diagnosis harder.
Ivers:
But you have conditions.
Garret:
Just one. My people stay. You go. Reign of terror
ends today.
(As
Garret is rushing out to the site)
Ivers:
Macy, I told the AG about your offer. He’s considering
it.
Garret:
Well you might want to sharpen your pencils, cause we’re
going over budget today.
Ivers:
What’s going on?
Garret:
Theta virus.
Ivers:
Have you notified public health, CDC?
Garret:
(shouting) I know how to do my job. (walks
away from Ivers)
Jordan:
That’s it Elaina. It’ll just be a little longer.
Woody:
Do you know how long it takes an elephant to blink?
Elaina:
No.
Woody:
Well he’s got great big eyes so it takes him awhile.
You want to do it with me?
(Elaina nods)
Woody:
One, two, three, and I bet by the time we get to six
your arm won’t hurt anymore. Four, five, six.
Jordan:
All done.
Elaina:
You’re magic. (smile from Woody to Jordan) Now
will you wake Pappy up?
Bug:
(walks in conference room, to Lily) You stay here.
(points to Ivers) You get out.
Ivers:
Excuse me?
Lily:
What’s with the mask?
Bug:
It’s for your protection. That body you didn’t want
Jordan to autopsy. And his wife who came in. Both were
infected with a deadly communicable disease. The morgue
is contaminated.
Nigel:
No, no. We can’t process the pollen without the
electron scanning microscope which has been shipped out
to Boston PD crime lab. Mr. Ivers decided we didn’t
need it anymore.
(Garret sighs and turns toward Ivers who’s walked up
behind Garret)
Ivers:
Governor’s office heard from Public Health. They’re
sending ribavirin. It may help knock down any virus in
our body.
Garret:
Where’s the microscope?
Ivers:
It’s in the basement. Delivery people haven’t picked it
up yet.
Garret:
Okay, see this is why we have the equipment. …Go call
the Attorney General. Go indite me. Go do whatever you
damn please. Just get out of my sight. (turns toward
Nigel) Go get my microscope.
Nigel:
I love you.
Elaina:
Dr. Jordan. They say I can’t see my mommy.
Jordan:
Well that’s because we’re working really really hard to
make her feel better. So can see her again.
Jordan:
I’ve got to stay here and try to link up these victims.
Woody:
I’ll send you a post card. (turns to leave)
Jordan:
Hey Woody. Make sure you suit up. You really don’t
want to catch this thing.
Woody:
You okay?
Jordan:
Yeah. Just, um, so tired.
Woody:
You look like crap.
Jordan:
Yeah, you too.
Garret:
Two weeks. Hold the door. Two weeks we’ve been letting
Ivers do our job. And the body’s been here the whole
damn time.
Nigel:
So much for cost efficient forensics.
Elaina:
Woody.
Woody:
Hey. Elaina. What’s wrong?
(Elaina
has petrified look on her face.)
Woody:
Alright. You just stay right here. (Woody goes after
man.)
Garret:
You might want to get that. It’s the Attorney General.
We had a little chat. I explained the situation.
Anyhow. Death toll. The witch hunt. How the publicity
was going to look. I changed my offer.
